Two Steps Forward ...

One back ....
A few weeks ago we got our little Honda project over one of the humps in a rebuild... the frame and running gear were assembled and dry fitted for a little gander at how things lined up.

Problems surfaced though with a very out of alignment front wheel. Some measuring and reassembly proved that the front fork we had so painstakingly refurbished was way out of true and the metal distorted to the point where only major surgery would fix it. So ... faced with the prospect of cutting and welding without a template to work from ... we decided to go shopping on e-bay.

As luck would have it, we found a guy who was parting out a C100 and had a front fork assembly he claimed to be in good shape and mostly rust free.

Turns out that bike he was dismantling for parts must have been ditched in a pond or mud pit or manure pile. The bottom end of the forks was packed solid with some kind of crap that took 20 minutes of pressure washing to get off ... followed by a couple more hours of wire brush and scraping. The funny thing is it turned out that the parts ... once cleaned ... were actually in pretty good shape. So ... stay tuned and well have (with luck) the refreshed and refinished parts back together.

On the other major part of this restoration project ... the engine is now going back together.

A new gasket between these two halves of the bottom end a few seals installed and tomorrow we can button up the engine crankcases, shifter and kick start hardware. The new piston needs ring installation (set the end gap on the new rings) and the top end parts are just waiting to be stacked up over case and torqued down.

Like Russian mail order web order brides ... I suppose. They are ALL beautiful and sexy in the advertisement photos. But, you are going to be really surprised by the reality of living with one. High cost, high maintenance, tempermental and really uninterested in meeting your expectations. Sure, you'll get to take her out a few times before the shine wears off. And, you'll get plenty of attention for a while. Then... when you think you have it all figured out and try to get her to go along with your daily routines .... you learn the ugly truth.

But Seriously ... with the highly public failures and flame ups of these expensive status symbol toys ...  with the fact that the buying public is becoming increasingly less interested in electric vehicles ... with awareness of the problems and pitfalls associated with all EVs .... do ya think that maybe ... just maybe it is getting tougher by the day to find some dealer who really wants to take on a low volume, high cost luxury item that is going to have lots of very expensive spares and repairs?

Can you imagine a car dealer actually wanting to take on the high cost of mostly pissed off customers and non-existent manufacturer support? "In case of problems, return your electronic appliance to an authorized service center in the original packaging." Just like the Apple computer you bought online!

Ya sure ... and just like your computer or Russian bride ... be prepared to kiss her goodbye or pay for a replacement. If you are THAT gullible.

Boomers ... Deserve more Contempt than Respect

Fluke's parents are boomers ... I have no respect for most of my generation with good reason.

When I hear some kid bad mouth MY generation it is usually for something that really does not matter. Once in a while you might get a bit of sense in the genxyz opinions. This typically happens when they realize that the main reason they can't afford anything is because of boomers. Sometimes one of the precious little people will make the connection between the taxes they are going to pay and the fact that boomers have basically sucked up all the resources that were supposed to be dedicated to things like pensions and health care.

But the REAL thing they should be pissed off about is the fact that so many boomers raised so many snot nosed entitlement pigs and just pigs in general. Like the 30 year old juvenile Sandra Fluke.

Trash City

Used to be the only parts of town that were graced with refuse bins as a full time feature of the landscape were the core areas of Winnipeg.

Now ... thanks to  Mayor Sam Katz ... our formerly clean and well ordered residential areas are blessed with city mandated trash cans on wheels on a permanent basis.

Happy Labour Day!

From the days when working men were damned happy to have a job and often at the mercy of tyranical employers  ... we have the concept of a day to celebrate the fruits of our labours.
