The Kind of Service You Get ......

Is usually the kind of service you deserve.... an update.

Single Mom Working Girl Dania   probably gave better service than the Obama secret service agents deserved .... and probably deserved to be paid what she wanted to be .... but still ....

Are Obama's Secret Service agents the best of the bunch?

Apparently not .... like the whole issue of first procuring and then employing and then cheating a bunch of Colombian whores.

For the agents and the military guys (those unspecified individuals in the reports so far) there are two big problems.

First is that it simply a breach of protocol ... and second that it is a potential breach of security.

Remember that word protocol in military and law enforcement is not the same as the amorphous, warm and fuzzy stuff of diplomatic jargon. Nor is it the CYA stuff of bureaucracy. Protocol for these people is what they are damned well paid to do ... or NOT do... as the case may be.

A  breach of protocol can be grounds for whatever sort of disciplinary action is decided.
In the case of a security breach ... which is fairly evident in the case of bringing low lifes into their midst ... the penalties could be more than just a reaming.

So does Obama deserve better?

I think not .... I think the attitude of the current White House reeks of ignorance, sloth and abusive self importance.

Pimps, thugs and whoring louts ..... just the Chicago way ... just what Obama deserves... the bottom of the barrel.

Say "Goodnight" Dick !

Passing away today the iconic Dick Clark ... 82 years old.. ah well .... it was a good run.

To be sure ... Dick was the man who made American Pop music the social phenomenon that it became.
American Bandstand was the vehicle for  this but Dick Clark was the driver and the talent ... I've never seen a better show host or MCee in any venue.

The show itself was never very good ... production values were barely adequate... lip synch performances laughable ... even insulting to performers and knowledgeable viewers.

But the the show quality was not the point .... it was the greatest marketing tool of the 20th century.
All they needed to do was attract enough viewers to pitch the products that ranged from the musicians to the pimple cream. Wrapped up in the excitement of  a first time ever (back in the 50s) opportunity to participate in a venue that made them so much a part of the happenings.... those viewer tuned in and bought in to the whole schtick.

The faces of pop celebrities right there in the living and rec rooms of the nation ... shiny faced kids dancing the latest (mostly not invented on the spot) moves and creating instant fads of fashion and taste. Powerful stuff.....

The power of TV realized and the largest and most easily manipulated demographic in history ... hungry and eager to lap it all up.

Well ... that was Dick's gift .... he was the guy with the special talent to see what was happening and make the most of it. Not that he was wrong at all to be doing it ... it was just that Dick was at the heart of that perfect storm. To be sure ... there were many other efforts to pull the same media magic .... but NONE of those other shows had Dick Clark.

Hats off to Dick .... he was really one of a kind.

Stuff I Do for Fun............. Update

Rebuilding a Honda 50 (C100) from 1960....

The Honda C100 we are restoring has a piston that measures 39.98 mm in dia. or (1.57 inch).

My research tells me the standard cylinder bore is 38.125 mm (1.50 inch) ... meaning the engine we are trying to restore is already overbored.
Assuming the wear on the piston skirt and cylinder wall from scuffing...
And beginning with a normal piston to cylinder clearance of 0.020 to 0.030 inch we have a cylinder dimension of close to 1.575 inch.

The max overbore size for standard pistons is 0.075 inches?

Maybe we can fudge it with easy-does-it honing and piston clean up.

Maybe we will have to go overboard with a custom piston...?

Of course .... once you start going there ... why stop?

Are oversized valves next? Are we going to be hot-rodding the engine?

Mr. Anonymous for daring to propose that ALL of the Crosses be removed from St. George school stationary, signage ad displays. Why so shy? The staff and Mr. VP Anonymous should be proud to display their names on the school directory of staff ..... shouldn't they?

Trouble in Motorcycle Paradise ...........

Pretty amazing. I figure that Ducati is going down the tubes in the near future as a race powerhouse.

This failure to evolve their world class race bikes in the direction that they need looks like the engineers have followed the design and development of the machines down a dead end path ... if not having finally reached the performance envelope boundary for the desmo engine as a stressed member of the rolling chassis. It makes me wonder why .... after all the historical failures of this layout that the Ducati designers chose to go down this route.

Past efforts to use the stressed member engine layout in a motorcycle were aimed at reducing weight rather than obtaining the best chassis dynamics. This is a strategy indicates the power plants are at the end of their potential for more output and that the weight reduction tradeoff against best handling is a "last chance" sort of effort to extend the life of the current technology.

Apparently ... the street versions of the bike are fantastic .... but they deliver something like 100 hp LESS than the GP Bike.

Although it is sure that Ducati has produced the finest handling and most powerful combination ever and most likely possible in the Desmosdici and Panigale machines.... At this point I would think that a clean sheet of paper and some fresh ideas would be in order.

Perhaps this will be, since it looks like Audi is taking over the Ducati brand. Or ... perhaps not.

In the mean time .....

Hey !   Remember when the MSM were pimping Obama as a Scholar and EXPERT on constitutional law?

Yesterday Barack Obama launched an attack on the Supreme Court that bordered on the bizarre. Apparently unaware of the most basic principles of constitutional law, going back to Marbury v. Madison in 1803, he said:

I’m confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.
And I — I’d just remind conservative commentators that for years what we’ve heard is the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint; that, uhhh, an uninelected, uhhh, group of — of people would somehow overturn, uhhh, a duly constituted and — and passed, uh, law. Uh, well, uh, uh, is a good example. Uhh, and I’m pretty confident that this, — this court will recognize that, uh, and not take that step.

An April Fool ....

The weather this weekend was absolutely gorgeous ..... +21 celcius in Winnipeg at the March/April nexus..... Man-O-Man !

I got to work on the back yard cleanup ... made a mess-o-BBQ ribs... had a couple of beers ... worked on the Honda 50 project a bit.

Really ... the only thing wrong with a weekend like that is that it ends too soon.

I'm a fool for great weekends ... no matter how fast they go by.
