Friday's Beer!

Say hello to Tullibardine 1488 ... Premium ... Whisky Beer !
Spelled in the Scotts manner ....

First impression is that the brew pours a nice deep golden and clear body with a crisp looking off white head of froth.
The body is effervescent and remains that way as the foam settles to a thick lace on the top.


A whiff off the glass gives a pleasant scent of malts and grass like hops ... one of the earmarks (nosemarks?) of many beers that I do enjoy.... but understated in terms of the expectations of somethiing labled "Whisky Beer" .

A pull from the happy glass delivers a nice surprise .... lots of malttyness and a bonus of that oaken whisky barrel tingle followed with a clean and sweetish finish that leaves eventually .... a bit of dryness that begs fro another go at the glass.

All around .... really well balanced ... nothing over the top and quite satisfying.

Rattle Snake

A Saudi man in Texas on a student visa has been arrested for aquiring bomb making materials.

In yet another case of the abject failure of immigration and security authorities to do their job ... a little snake got caught with his fangs out.

Never mind that a simple process of questioning his actual credentials would have tipped off even the least attentive investigator ... if that investigator had any concern about actually doing their job....

Targeting Children

It always seems just a little too obvious to me that the primary purpose of social networking and so called "free" internet services are not benefit the people who use them.

They are... plain and simple ...schemes for gathering personal information that can be sold for a profit.

Not that people would likely stop using them ... even if they knew the full extent of the information gathering and its subsequent dissemination most people would still continue to access the web sites of Google ... Yahoo.... YouTube .... Facebook and all the others .... because they do not really care.

It should be obvious to everyone who uses these applications and services that this is the case. In fact there is no reason that I can see for these folks to even hide the fact. Why the should not put their user information and disclaimers up front and why the get away with burying the information deep in the terms of service pages... which I find kind of humorous in the way they actually go to the trouble of using small type fonts in these web docs.
No reason at all for these feeble attempts to keep the real nature of their business out of plain site. Except that is ... because they are just a little be worried about blowback at some point.

This is all well and good when dealing with adults or people self identifying as adult but when it comes to kids there is a real problem.

You see ... children by definition are incapable of providing legal assent ... so by definition the information gathered from children is illegal.

Some people might just say Creepy ... (as Are We Lumberjacks? Roger does) .

No Tolerance for You Arieh ....

Once again some jerk official in Quebec manages to embarrass all of us in Canada.

A Jewish taxi driver in Montreal may not display religious artifacts and other objects in his cab, a Quebec court ruled.

Arieh Perecowicz, 66, a taxi driver for the last 44 years, lost his much-publicized case Feb. 17 when a municipal court upheld several fines against him for having too many personal and religious objects in his car.

At various times, his decorations included photos of his wife and daughter, small Canadian and Israeli flags and a Remembrance Day poppy.

He was ordered to pay $1,300, about $600 of that for court costs.

In the matter of US embassy employee Raymond Davis and the politics of Pakistan...

If any ordinary person in the republic of Pakistan were to shoot two armed robbers in self defence they may or may not be seen as righteous and guilt free under the laws of that land. They certainly would not, after exoneration by the police and justice officials be the subject of international attention and widespread public displays of outrage. In fact, outside of immediate family or their clannish ties no one in Pakistan would give a shit and the legal outcome would most likely rest on the social position and ability to bribe officials of the arrested party.

Granted that Mr. Davis does possess a certain status that would make him more likely to be treated with kid gloves by Pakistani officials, but that does not mean that he would or should have become the subject of widespread attention.

But in the islamic republic, the outlook of the populace is largely determined by the point of view of mullahs and imams with an axe to grind and the intent to instigate mayhem. Coupled with a salacious and sensation driven press on the local and the international scene .... the end result is something that far exceeds the actual scope of the violent incident. Had the tables been turned the local response would likely have been little more than a shrug of the shoulders and a few "he had it coming" sort of comments followed here by a few lines of press, some political "outrage" and then shrugging of shoulders as the pols and pundits move on to things more opportune.

In our current situation the unfortunate Mr. Davis has become a pawn in the game of news reporting and public politics.

Around the same time, a similar but less horrible calamity befell her colleague, the deservedly famous American journalist Anderson Cooper, also in Tahrir Square. Cooper took a nasty beating from what he reckoned was a gang of Mubarak's secret-police provocateurs.

While driving to work today I heard a bit of blurb on the US budget politics being played out and a proposal to cut funding to public broadcasting corp in the US..... as it turns out the liberal intelligentsia are all over it ......

Kate at SDA has a well placed juxtaposition of the convenient ... as in truth of the moment ... manner so typical of the privileged liberal.

On the one hand public broadcasting receives less than 10 % of its funding from the government (in the USA) ... on the other hand talking about cutting any amount of the 10% is tantamount to child abuse and the end of days for a hopey changey world.

Back in the land of people who actually have to work for a living .... so we can pay our taxes ... and end up subsidizing these little islands of sanctimonious liberal viewpoint ... some of us don't give a crap.
By and large we do not watch the public broadcasters because we do not care for the material they offer ... outside of a few decent concert series .... the bulk of the programming is just rehashed garbage from other sources that nobody would even know about if not for the desperate need for low cost material in the not for profit sphere.

So .... how many people really benefit from US public broadcasting?

I'd hazard to guess that it is a lot less than the 38million claimed by the NPR CEO....

But after all that's America ... and THIS is Canada ... where the CBC gets over a billion$ from the taxpayers every year to sustain a clique of liberal elites who produce nothing of value (unless you happen to be a member of the parasitic class yourself) and they insist on telling us all that this shit is actually sunshine.

And if only this were the end of it! The rest of the Canadian broadcast cabal get hundreds of millions as well ... as if CTV and the rest are not businesses that are supposed to be earning their fair share for the benefit of their shareholders but rather just PBS lite.

Unfortunately this sort of self propagating dependence on public funding permeates the entire broadcast print media. And do not get me started on arts production especially film in Canada.

For my money I'd like to see all these parasites probosces permanently removed from the public flesh. Cut then off 100% .... let them go out and earn their livings ... let them prove by doing for themselves that they deserve to survive.

But of course ... as with all liberals ... what has actually been a favor of largess by the public has become for them an entitlement.

Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi is going to face charges of Soliciting Underage Prostitutes ....

Odds are that Silvio probably did do the little whore .... but he sure wasn't the only one.

Makes you wonder just what the heck is going on in Italy eh ?

Old Silvio has quite the reputation for messing around with young women and he's been thoroughly criticised for handing out favours like jobs and running interference with the law for some of them.

So does he deserve to get raked over the coals? Probably ..... as if there are not more important things that he he should be worrying about .... and that goes for the rest of the government as well. But Italy is what it is ... basically a global laughingstock and the posterchild for dysfunctional governance. With a legal and governing system that is impossible to manage and an economy that reflects the fact.

But .... one thing for sure ... if he was a commie like his political opposition there'd be no such charges over this sort of behaviour.

EPA Publishes Fraudulent Reports

And Reuters is happy to repeat them..... In an article taken from the UK online edition of their reports the "news" disseminator uses their bully pulpit in a fine example of focussed messaging that begins with a false premise and finishes with the hyperbole of a fanatic preacher ranting to the captive choir. Note that by all indications the UK media continues to be completely committed to continuing their efforts to promote the idea that there is a fact based, scientific reality that includes all of the worst case scenarios imagined by the credulous populace and encouraged by radical activist organizations.

Typical of the daily efforts of these self appointed moral and intellectual betters in the mainstream media and revealing of the depth of corruption in what are supposed to public serving agencies, the falsity of this particular piece of propaganda was observed first by John Ray of Greenie Watch :

“Since the mid-1970s, Alaska has warmed at three times the rate of the Lower 48 states, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. And with nearly two-thirds of U.S. national parkland located in Alaska, the issue of climate change is especially pressing there, officials say.

In some far northern parks such as Gates of the Arctic, average temperatures are expected to shift in coming years from below freezing to above freezing, crossing a crucial threshold, said Bob Winfree, Alaska science adviser for the Park Service.

“The effects of melting ice and thawing permafrost, I think, will be major,” Winfree said.

Dr.Ray goes on to point out the nature of the factual misrepresentation behind the public statements from the EPA and the Alaska Parks Service which, in a nutshell is that the claimed warming all happened prior to 1977.

The trail that led to this little example of fraudulent reporting led from another respectable science blogging site "Real Science" by Steven Goddard.... who also sees this in terms of how the sources are responsible for the propagation of these falsities. They are ... but it goes beyond that.

For my part ... the efforts of these clowns in the MSM to perpetuate misinformation, their reliance on false reports, falsified information, false attribution and revisionist claims of historical data need to be seen and understood for what it is ... that being the venal efforts of people who are committed to and dependent for their livelihood on creating contention and exploiting the insecurities of their captive audience.

In the frame of reference common to the media insiders it's all about the effect that their stories create and the ability to exploit that effect. A point of view which also seems to lead to a kind of smug self importance and superiority in how they view themselves.

In my view .... nothing but a bunch of sleazy misanthropes running a long legged game on the credulous public.

Toyota electronics not defective!

After a year and a half and nearly forty BILLION$ in unjustified fines levied against auto maker Toyota the US government has finally admitted that there was no problem in the vehicles outside of people who use them and a few funky accelerator pedals.

The Transportation Department, which was assisted by engineers with NASA, said its 10-month study of Toyota vehicles concluded there was no electronic cause of unintended high-speed acceleration in Toyotas. The study, which was launched at the request of Congress, responded to consumer complaints that flawed electronics could be the culprit behind Toyota’s spate of recalls...

Nevertheless.... The chief bureaucrat at the transport department ... political appointee ... Ray LaHood intends to continue 'studying' the use of electronics in cars and looks forward to creating more unnecessary regulation ....

A preliminary part of the study, released last August, failed to find any electronic flaws based on a review of event data recorders, or vehicle black boxes.

Despite its findings, LaHood said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was considering new regulations to improve safety. They include requiring brake override systems on all vehicles, standardizing keyless ignition systems and requiring event data recorders, or vehicle black boxes, on all new vehicles.

Transportation officials said they would also consider conducting more research on electronic control systems and review the placement and design of accelerator and brake pedals.

My question is .... Will Toyota be getting that 50 Billion$ back? And ... NASA? ... freekin highest paid research scientists in the world NASA ... trouble shooting cars for Washington?

As an aside ... if you care to read the article by AP you may notice a "slight" tendency to spin the report into a praising of the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress at the time of instigation .....

Nope .... this is rather a case that should clearly spell out how incompetent and wasteful meddling politicians and government hacks always prove to be.

And besides .... isn't NASA's mandate from Obama supposed to be finding ways to make muslims feel good about their accomplishments?
