Why Is The World Not Perfect Yet?

It's The Pathology of The LIberal State of Mind !

Everything that allows people to prosper or take pleasure in their lives is evil and must be controlled and taxed. Or so it seems.....

Alcohol - controlled manufacture, marketing and distribution, controlled vendors, controlled and criminalized use of while taxed at a rate of over 80% .

Tobacco - controlled manufacture, marketing and distribution, controlled vendors, controlled and criminalized use of while taxed at a rate of over 90%

Energy - controlled manufacture, marketing and distribution ... controlled vendors .... soon to be controlled consumer use of energy (see Ontario) ... taxed at a rate of over 90%

Recreation - mandatory use of safety equipment such as helmets etc. , see Bicycle Helmets etc. arbitrary controls on when and where activities can be performed.. parks, designated areas, banned from or limited to specific route and public spaces ... proposals under review for ever broader areas of regulation and enforcement and even criminalized ownership of items like firearms ( which should rightfully be classified as tools or equipment just like a skill saw)

Competition - Mandatory sports governing bodies, government regulation, taxes on venues and events, imposition of requirements for insurance and safety measures. Many activities banned and criminalized.

Enterprise and Commerce - With the spirit and will to prosper all but choked out of our society in every possible way and our youth robbed of incentive or even estranged to the concept of earning and achieving through perseverance or the idea of earned respect as opposed to entitlement ..... what is there to left to regulate or tax or otherwise interfere in and attempt to control?

Somewhere along the way all the good intentions seem to have been overpowered by the need to simply control and stifle human activity.

Now let's see the evidence of how all this control and regulation and taxation is making the world a better place.

Should we NOT be completely free of risk and harm by now?

Eh?

Just Call The Stupid Thing!

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is pushing all the buttons that usually get pushed when a government wants to get down to an election.

And the MSM isn't happy about it!
Margarete Wente of the G&M for one :

"Watching Stephen Harper do his election striptease is not an edifying sight. We all know where this is going. So why does he have to be so coy? Please! Just call the stupid thing and get it over with!" Says Mags.....

The The Red Rag of Toronto : Raises the specter of Harper as Bully and tries to blame every problem in the country on the Government's meaning PM Harper's policies.

Others are in a tizzy because the Fixed Election Date legislation is an issue! Even though it's Not.

Still others have begun the "Hidden Agenda" chant .... even if quietly in the background.

Yep! It's election time alright. But you'd think the MSMers would be really happy about it. No?

Well I guess the problem they are having is that the actual opposition parties ( the one's that run for office and hold seats in parliament) are not seemingly up to the task or maybe they're sleeping at the switch. Or maybe the CBC news team haven't figured out the election strategy or briefed the Libs on it yet.

Caught flatfooted? I think so.

Most of these tools I think, have been so engrossed with the US election circus and particularly their kindred spirits in the Obamarama show that it's taking them a few extra breaths to get focussed back in our own nation.

Not that it is stopping the preprogrammed knee jerk responses to anything that our Conservative Government does.
One thing you might observe is how few of the print media bozos or TV talking heads use the term Prime Minister when speaking of our Prime Minister. Some even referring to the LIbs as the "Liberal Government"... as in "The LIberal Government will not force an election until they are ready..." !

Reality for these people is something they believe or would like to believe it seems.

And THAT being the case, having our Prime Minister Stephen Harper control the agenda is likely what's got them most upset. Because of the simple statement of fact regarding the state of our government the public is being forcibly pulled out of their summer dolor and have a thought about just what the hell is going on in Ottawa.

The scripted stories of the patriarchal media are all being interrupted by PM Harper.
Manufactured crisis and faux scandals combined with the obligatory dog and pony shows of stacked Commons committees, unnecessary hearing of one sort or another, trumped up battles with corrupt civil servants and all the attendant hoopla, bone headed policy announcements of Dion etc. All these now become a side show soon to be forgotten as the public will now be deciding what they want to know about and who is going to be believed.

After all! What nerve to think that the "Natural Order" of things can be changed by mere usurpers like The Conservatives. Yes, the simple bias and assumption of privilege that used to be the bench mark of our MSM and their political pets has evolved into raw hatred and contempt since the dispatching of the Libs. I'm sure also that the constant frustration of having to carry water for the impossibly inept Stephane Dion is compounding their bile production as well.

Rage away boys and girls. Lash out in desperation and fear. Spin away madly.

Your Liberal pals are going to be put to the test and I think you already know that they are going to be found wanting.

I wonder if the Canadian Media have looked at any polls regarding how little trust and respect they command?

(I'll be searching for some polling data on this matter)

But How Will They Blame Bush?

OK .... I understand that this could get serious for the Gulf States .... but right now .... It's just chicken little bullshit from the MSM.

Now Orleans is getting nervous about the new hurricane brewing in the Caribbean.

"Gustav" is currently headed over to Cuba from The Dominican/Haiti ... Although there is no clear indication where it will go or what it will do the media are happy to raise the specter of Katrina and set off the alarms. Even Ray Nagin brought his empty noggin home from Denver to watch his "Chocolate City" get pounded once again.

Although I'm sure that residents like Steve Weaver, 82, and his wife who stayed for Katrina, and were plucked off the roof of their house by a Coast Guard helicopter. Will get out of town if necessary.
"Everybody learned a lesson about staying, so the highways will be twice as packed this time," Weaver said.

Or contractor Lawson "Sonny" Brannan, a construction company owner, who was busy renovating a client's home Wednesday. Brannan calmly went about his business, but nonetheless kept a watchful eye on the weather.

"I'm not going to worry about it until I see it in the Gulf," he said. "Then I'll make my decisions."

Tom Flanagan, a political scientist at the University of Calgary, believes Harper would be satisfied to return with a strengthened minority - a result that would throw the Liberals into chaos, thereby advancing the prime minister's longterm strategy of destroying Canada's so-called natural governing party.

The humanity of the Taliban.....

And so it goes that the mind of those whose finer sensibilities will guide them to conclusions that the rest of us can only wonder at .......... must find something to long for in every matter.

There simply MUST be something wrong, something lacking in how we are perceiving the world.

Should we have any doubts ourselves about whether we are actually witnessing the battle to eradicate a great evil we need look no further than the BBC.

It's a "Doozie" from my gal in NYC ... Angel! who notices that BBC is chock full of dhimmi asshats.

The slice of broadcast bottom dwelling ignorance in question is the product of the BBC's World News Report and their Presentrix .. the talking hair spray helmet Lyse Doucet.

The Asteroids will come whether you admit it or not ....

An interesting interview of Press dinosaur Roger Alton on the relevance and future of print media.

Interestingly enough Alton's editors at the Independent and the Guardian are spending millions on the transition to Web based media services.

The money question : "Who is going to pay for journalists and "journalism" in ten years time?"

Good Question !

There is also an interesting conflict in this recorded interview where competing moonbatisms created obvious cognitive dissonance in both the BBC hound and the Press dog.

Tuesday Technology - Wireless Power !!

Shades of Nikola Tesla !!

Supported by over a hundred years of interim development and technological progress Intel has announced the development of
Wireless Power ... !

Whereas back in the 19th century the prolific researcher and inventor of numerous applications for electrical and magnetic energy Nikola Tesla was leading the bleeding edge of technology development.

Tesla's experiments proved to be less than convincing at the time and really scared the pants off a lot of people. There are numerous stories of how he was the victim of conspiracies led by foes Marconi and Edison as well as their subsequent corporations who it is claimed by some wished to suppress Tesla's creations and discredit his ideas and character.

Whatever the reasons He died relatively poor and in some eyes disgraced. His dream of delivering "Broadcast Power" every where on the planet crushed.

Some Background on "Wireless Energy Transfer "

Wikipedia Bio on Tesla

The interesting thing I see in the Intel description is their building on the idea of "Resonance"!

Resonance and relativity and unified field theories were a large part of Nikola Tesla's foundational thought and research!

Wireless power may be an idea whose time has come and maybe thanks to Intel researchers for carrying out this development.

But let's not forget Nikola Tesla who laid the foundation for this and many other developments in science and engineering!

The Web Should Put an End To Parochial News Reporting

News made to order as a production intended to stimulate or assuage public desires and anxieties.

Most of us who are attentive to the tone of mainstream reporting get the idea and in most cases can prove it with just a little research. On any given topic the MSMs paucity of research and subsequent information is usually combined with a calculated slant to lead the public into the frame of mind or point of view desired. Much as a screenwriter takes a story and treats it to project the themes and attitudes seen as popular or trendy in the eyes of their market researcher or programing managers so do the news editors and managers of the media.

Although THIS article is focussed on the Olympics and how the various national media construct their themes for reporting the event(s), there is a direct comparison to be made with virtually ALL mainstream reporting.

Take the time to read this one because it is instructive of how the MSM attempts to skew perceptions in general.

One excellent current example is the reporting on the Russia/ Georgia fiasco! You are NOT getting the whole story from anywhere. The Russians are crudely attempting to control the narrative not just at home but in the world view. Of course it's NOT just the Russians doing this.... just that they are the most blatant and least sophisticated.

I'm not here to beat up on just Russian and European media either because the news wires are ALL attempting to create their own version. What is telling is which stories the regional or national news agencies will pick up on and run with.

CNN in the US is a joke in the way they try to fill a 24/7 time slot with less effort and information than a high schooler would be required to put into a book report. As if simple repetition of a couple of facts or opinions constitutes coverage of any issue.

Our Canadian Media are no better and it is comical to watch how they wobble around any point of view before they settle on something that will support other themes in their ongoing production of what they like to call "the news". CBC getting a good run for it's journalistic funny money from CTV these days. The Globe & Mail after having devoted several days to looking at everything they could get their hands on ( which surprised me) has managed to fall into a superficial and pathetically uninformative declination in the amount of information they are bringing forward.

Back to the story at hand : The Olympics

An article that looks at the media handling of the events while giving us a couple of things to think about and some alternate resources to look into should we be that curious.

"Fed up with parochial broadcasters dictating your take on the Games? Head online for a fresh perspective"

A Tale of Two Canadians

(A tale inspired by the prose of Fenris Badwolf and an old joke about a certain separatiste .....)

So as the story goes it was by sheer coincidence that two Canadians were on a Caribbean cruise somewhere in the Caribbean regions where many Canadians like to go to get away from Canada.

It so happened that on this one daily Rum Cruise there was a mighty Caribbean storm that may or may not have been caused by Global Warming or Climate Change or David Suzuki or Al Gore... not that it matters which if any of these things caused the storm anyway.

The upshot of this storm having happened on this particular day was that it surprised the Captain and Crew of the Jolly Bugger (which was the name of the boat that took Canadian tourists on Rum Cruises every day)... the captain and crew being particularly surprised because they just happened to be wasted on magic mushrooms and Zig-Zag which they did not share with the Canadian Tourists and therefore had made pigs of themselves with thus becoming really wasted beyond the capacity to react to a storm.

The result of the Jolly Bugger being caught in the storm was that the boat and the crew and the passengers were all wrecked (as if they were not in the first place) but the wreck ended up on the shore of something like the fabled Island of Gilligan. Although there were no Ginger, no Marianne, nor any professor, skipper, millionaire or his wife. There were no coconut phones or palm tree contraptions. Not even a shitty little leaky hut to get out of the wind, rain or sun.

All there was on this island was one Canadian tourist from Toronto and one from anywhere else in Canada who both had miraculously survived when all others had perished. Truth be told that all the other passengers had discovered the crew's magic mushrooms and Zig-Zag as the crew had panicked and being pigs themselves gorged themselves before the storm eventually killed them all.

And so it went that these two who neither had nor could have anything in common other than an arbitrary designation of being Canadian did not cooperate or get along nor could they stand the sight of each other. In fact the only thing that kept one from murdering the other was the fact that they were both wasted ... from the Rum Cruise and from being wrecked in the sense that having your boat ripped to shreds and all your fellow travelers drowned.

As the days passed they tended to avoid one another and it was merely a matter of coincidence that they bumped into each other at the exact spot where a MAGIC LANTERN was lying in the sand.

Being Canadians and used to living in a fantasy version of life they of course knew immediately what this meant and what they needed to do. And so ....

After the rubbing of the lamp the obligatory Genie of the Lamp appeared and explained to them the rules for wishes that applied to this particular lamp. Being a particularly fair minded Djin the genie explained that because they both had found and rubbed him he would offer them TWO wishes each but not three as is the usual arbitrary number.

And so it went that the Toronto Canadian was quick to grasp at his entitlement and demand to be taken back to his beloved Toronto where all things were bright and beautiful.... and while he was at it that the Djin should make a wall a thousand feet high to keep out all those other ungratefull Canadians who were not from Toronto like this fellow who had been troubling him here on this island ever since the boat wreck.

And so ... the Djin complied!

The less demanding other Canadian who was from someplace other than Toronto waited to be asked what it was that he wished.

And when the Genie inquired .... said: "You know that wall the other guy asked for?" Yes said the Djin.... "Can you fill it with water?"

And so it was that all of Canada other than the part of Canada known as Toronto was delivered their fondest wish by the clever and unselfish act of one Canadian tourist who was not from Toronto.

BTW - he also used his second wish wisely.

Food Safety

With the recent outbreaks of Listeria in Canada and the frequent findings of contamination in produce and meats across North America the FDA in the US has finally relented and decided to allow the use of Irradiation using specific ionizing radiation to kill microbial contamination in food.

For the time being it's going to be limited to produce like spinach and lettuce but it should be extended to ALL forms of food that are packaged.

It should have been common practice over 20 years ago but was stopped by hysterics of the usual sort we get from the ignorant and the flakes of the granola munching and hemp fiber wearing sorts.

Well now that people are starting to actually get worried about where their food comes from and what sort of problems might be associated with it could we be seeing the ascendence of some Common Sense ?

An outlook that is long overdue. Medical News Today ... has an article.

Friday's Beer!

Finally got a chance to get back to my samples from Denmark....

Faxe Danish Strong Beer

This 500ml can is apparently made for export to places like Canada. The ABV is 8% ..... lending some credence to the term "Strong Beer" . It's a product of the Euro-Conglomerate Unibrew and it is brewed at the Faxe brewery in Denmark.

A macro-brew to be sure .... but don't count these out before you try them.

And so.... chilled to about 10 deg c and served in tall chilled lager glass.......

The can pops without much fuss giving a little bit of a hiss before separation and not much activity until you pour ( no worries about foaming over cans with this) .

The pour is smooth and produces a nice clear glass of golden liquid that suspends a crisp frothy white two finger head for a couple of minutes. The foam settles down into a bare lace at the edge of the glass after that.
There is a steady effervescence in the body that continues until the glass is about 1/2 gone.

On the nose I found the aroma to very pleasing. She evokes memories of old time lagers with a hint of yeasty malt, ripe banana and floral hops. To my senses this is just what beer should do.

On the tongue she is smooth and a little creamy. The palate picks up on the caramel and malt and the hops just add a bit of bite. The finish is smooth and maybe a bit sticky but a pleasant aftertaste just makes the next sip come sooner. For a mass produced lager at higher abv .... this is very good stuff!

What more could you want? Smooth golden body, pale blond head, sweet aroma and taste that makes you want to keep going back for more!

For me there is no downside. I'm thinking of taking a few of her friends out for the long weekend at the cabin.

Hard to find other reviews of this beer ....but here's something to chew on:

The Knob Factor!

Whenever I see someone who constantly has a moral position that seems to be just perfectly fit for the moment I wonder just how far they can be goaded into contradicting themselves. Usually it does not take very long to get the desired result. Other characteristics of people who exhibit these traits also usually seem to include a habit of holding forth absurd and just plain unfounded points of view on history.

Often they are LIberals. And being Liberals are quite happy to swim in their murky waters of ignorance and prejudice while hurling epithets at any and all who dare to question or comment upon the shortcomings they continually display for the world to see.

When I see one of these creatures persist in the face of all fact and reason and especially when I see hordes of delusional fools flock to their defense it becomes apparent that we as a society have a real problem on our hands. That being .... how to get the point across that the person in question is NOT what they are pretending to be. It being a waste of time to even consider that the protagonist in question is ever going to engage in the kind of introspection that would lead to understanding what a fraud they really are. Or in the case of one who is so venal as to carry on in this manner in a deliberate and knowing hypocrisy aimed at nothing more than self gratification and empowerment for it's own sake to think that they would or could be suddenly struck by an epiphany of moral consciousness.

The question is ... How to effect an awakening of understanding in the masses so oblivious?
And is it even possible?

When the masses cling so tightly to their delusion and their ignorance .....

This is the KNOB FACTOR. When opinions of unthinking and uncaring hordes are attached to and idea that is so patently without substance that they cannot be swayed and that effect is so far reaching that otherwise knowledgeable people will not speak of the abomination that they see and know to be, for fear of falling out of some imagined state of grace in the eyes of the mob the KNOB factor is in full effect.

And such is the case in the matter of Barack Hussein Obama.

Oh well .... Thank GOD for some Un-blinkered folks in the Media who are plainly un afraid of annoying the KNOBS and UN- willing to be one.

Failing to Grasp ANY Difference

Socialists Think They Are Not Fascists

Just because they Say So does not Make It So !

I found this article at The Gates of Vienna...

An extreme left wing group has offered a cash reward to anyone who assaults a notorious Nazi teenager in Uppsala in eastern Sweden.

At least this is what ‘Antifascistisk Aktion’ (Afa) promises on flyers posted all around the university town.

Afa’s website also encourages people to assault the 18-year-old Nazi, and promises 500 kronor ($90) to anyone who carries out the attack and can provide photographic evidence.

The flyers were put up in the beginning of August.

According to TV4, the campaign is part of an ongoing feud between Afa and an extreme right-wing group also present in Uppsala.

The Uppsala police have reported the posters as an incitement to grievous assault and the Swedish Security Police (Säpo) have also been called in.

Probably My Only Olympics Post for 2008 Bejing Event

It is because of exactly THIS .... kind of BS that I have not watched the Bejing Olympics.

Video Please try to ignore the ignoramus CBC announcer. His expert is the one to listen to.

That's Ivett Gonda in red nailing Hanna Zajc in the breadbasket! That's ONE point!

I am pained that I had to go to CBC for this ... but they are the ones covering the Games!
Taekwondo Farce ....

Surprise! Surprise! A Chinese Judge is involved ...

"Chinese judge Lei Zhao may have not been giving Gonda the points she deserved because she would have faced a Chinese athlete in the next round."

Bite ME you venal POS !

But ... why should we be surprised? The Olympics is rife with corruption and proven to be from the IOC down to the lowest levels of event management. Not just in China either because we've seen this kind of crap at EVERY Olympic event that involves judging for the last four decades at least.

Now I've been involved in martial arts including Karate, Kung fu, Jui Jitsu and Taekwondo.
I have boxed, wrestled and just plain brawled. I've tried out and competed in most contact sports and I damned well know when I see a punch or kick landed.

For the record our competitor Ivett Gonda landed at least 5 points in the 1st round, 6 or 7 in the 2nd round and 5 more sure hits in the 3rd round. NONE of these were recorded or awarded to her!

The Swede Hanna Zajc got her ASS KICKED in every round and was awarded points in 2 out of three while the Canadian competitor got nothing. One of the first round kicks left a visible bruise on Zajc's left cheek and the ref was checking her eye for injury.

The only reason I'm even aware of this is because it's a Canadian involved .... this is the entire sum of the Olympics that I have watched outside of some faceless BMXers leaping whoops on a man made course.... and what happens? Just like I'm reporting it..... the Chinese put the FIX in for their athlete ... because the visitor had a superior entry.

They knew it and they cheated and the world knows it.

I sure hope someone is keeping score on the Chinese over the course of this 2008 event.

BTW - There are 4 judges in the corners and that means that at least three and likely ALL of them were ignoring Gonda's scoring.... and that means Payoffs and Corruption.

More on the incident:
When Ivett Gonda nails a headshot, she knows it because she can feel her opponent's face on her foot.

Damned Right !

Chinese Media Take Lead from Canadian Press!

Well of course they do.

Canadian Press Reports ....

"Chinese media pick up on Harper-Chretien war of words over Olympics".

Given that was the whole point of Chretien's jaw flapping and the CP stories subsequent amplification and reiteration!

The story was teased on the front page of the English-language China Daily under the headline "Canada PM Flayed for Skipping Day 1" and was also featured on about a dozen Chinese news websites and various blogs on Wednesday.

Most stories ran with the headline: "Former Prime Minister Chretien Strongly Criticizes Current Prime Minister Harper for Not Attending Olympics: Will Pay Heavy Price."

The Nurse Nanny Advocates of the CMA

The CMA !

They'd like to have us all properly identified as the intolerant bigots they see the ordinary man/woman as being.

You see these same folks who have been at the forefront of demands for the cottonballing of our children( for God knows that no ordinary person should be allowed to decide what is or is not good for their own offspring) and various other intrusions into the lives of Canadians based on nothing more than their own fears and prejudices .... have found yet another very important matter that must be dealt with by blaming the attitude of the public.

Mental Illness in the eyes of the CMA is something which must be defended and of course anyone who views the mentally ill as a potential threat to themselves or society must be viewed as a bigot of sorts.
As if having a healthy concern over being accosted or worse by schitzos and criminal psychopaths left wandering our streets courtesy of the concern and caring of our activist social meddlers is now the evidence that they needed all along to justify telling us that WE are the problem.

And Lord help you if you should decide that protecting your family from the stigma of mental illness is in their best interests..... yeah crazy aunt Jane should be outed and her suffering celebrated.

I guess that goes for cousin Chester the Molester too and while you're at it go check in on little Johnny and get an inventory of the cat decapitations .... just remember it's not his fault that all the pets in the neighbourhood just keep disappearing... nor is it wrong that skinny Joey the Pyromaniac is on the loose nor quiet Bob with his syphilis and assorted other charming infections who likes to think that little girl down the street is secretly hoping he will take her to his special place.

Killing Time on a lazy Saturday........

So here I am over at SDA just meandering about and skimming the posts and comments.

Then there is This ...
A little snippet from the CTV.... Suffice to say that I found this on Thursday and chalked it up to just another case/example of the abysmal incompetence and barefaced anti-conservative political stance of our Canadian Media..... And that's just what it is !

If you are aware of the CTV / Harris-Decima system of using rigged polls to arrive at conclusions that support their own undying support for all things LIberal then you don't even NEED read the story to know what you will find in it.

(If you CARE to know ...... then for all the effort it takes to point your pointer and click your mouse ... it will all be revealed to you. Which in this case is that the CTV author has NO information derived from the poll in question to support his Headline ... He's Just Making It Up. )

Apparently ... well NO not apparently .... EVIDENTLY ! ... This sort of effort is "Too Much" of a challenge for Lefty types who troll our blogs.

For Example:

The Lone Ranger...
"How is anyone supposed to make heads or tails out of that headline?? Duh like hello, please explain!!"

And for others who hang out in the same ( probably Govt. or would that be a Call Center?) offices .....

The Sahadow (shadow!?) says ...

"To: A. Cooper. Re: The Lone Ranger`s comments. I agree with him!!! Are you ingnorant enough to tell us that a blogs success doesn`t depend partly on clarity? In any case, isn`t Kate old enought to speak (write) for herself without having you as her echo?? I read this blog from time to time, I rarely comment. I find that a lot of articles lack explanation and clarity needed to motivate the reader, as compared to other blogs. The Lone Ranger and I work in the same office, he`s a wise man! I`m not into blogs, however you only got 15 comments on the story, doesn`t that tell you a lot!!"

I guess the reason these Tards are not happy with Conservative Blogs is that they feel the need to have things "Spelled Out" for them .... seems it's another "entitlement" that everything be spoon fed to the little darlings.

Saturday Relax ....

Outside chores done by noon and it is HOT out today .... so maybe time to kick back in the Air Conditioned environment and see what there is to see.

TV Movies .....
A couple of my favorite Clint Eastwood Flicks ;
- Unforgiven from 1992 .... there's a price to be paid for living a violent life.
- Kelley's Heroes from 1970 ..... One of the best ensemble casts for a war movie ever... only it's not really a war movie. Kelley's Heroes is a Caper Flick set in the environment of WWII France.
A chance encounter with a hapless German courier provides Kelley with an opportunity to get rich.. which leads to a host of others getting involved .. complications .. real risks.. comedy and a cagey strategic confrontation with the German guards of a 16million dollar stash of gold bars.
The stylized gunfighter face down in the dusty street is a priceless jab at the Hollywood western cliche'.

IMO one of the BEST Caper Movies of ALL time.

Friday's Beer !

Well we had a bit of a party last night and pulled out some of the Local Favorites .

No time to be performing critical sampling and reports on the quality of the subjective experience.

Oh! I See - France To The Rescue !!

How could we have missed it?

"Sarkozy's Georgia gamble pays off ! "

France's president Sarkozy has led the way with his inate Gallic sense of diplomacy and courageously risking his (and the French people's) great esteem in the world and in their own minds. What flair! Such Elan! Such courage!

By playing at the game of diplomatic meddling between powers and people that neither care nor give any regard to his existence France has saved the day .... or at least added yet another smiley face sticker on the home office wall to commemorate their "Achievement" on the world stage.

" On the face of it the French can count their intervention in the Georgian crisis as a big diplomatic success.
"

Well of course! Having NOT been noticed and thus escaping any possible critical examination how easy it is to claim a great triumph. After all who is to say that it is not so?

It helps also if you can find a way to ignore being told to mind your own business by Everyone who is actually involved!

Self aggrandizement ?

I'd say the textbook definition.........

Read the BBC News report HERE !

Of course as BBC struggles to find meaning in events where they have no possible way of influencing either opinions of those actually involved or any possible outcomes.
They must find something irrelevant to hold up as an accomplishment.

I remind the reader of this observation:

Indeed, tired of European lectures, the Russians are now telling the world that soft power is, well, soft. Moscow doesn’t give a damn about the United Nations, the European Union, the World Court at the Hague, or any finger-pointing moralist from Geneva or London. Did anyone in Paris miss any sleep over the rubble of Grozny?

Another Opinion on Russia - Georgia and Europe

Victor David Hanson ..........

"The long-suffering Russian people resent the loss of global influence and empire, but not necessarily the Soviet Union and its gulags that once ensured such stature. The invasion restores a sense of Russian nationalism and power to its populace without the stink of Stalinism, and is indeed cloaked as a sort of humanitarian intervention on behalf of beleaguered Ossetians."

"Indeed, tired of European lectures, the Russians are now telling the world that soft power is, well, soft. What One Still Has to Call The West ?

What BBC World News has a problem with ....

Paul Reynolds, BBC World Affairs Corespondent on "Winners and Losers After Georgia Conflict"

Well ... Besides the FACT That it is NOT over yet .... just what do you mean by :

"Whatever the outcome, the fortunately relatively small-scale war over South Ossetia has highlighted the present unsatisfactory situation between Russia and what one still has to call the West."

Of course the operative thing here is that he's a BBC reporter .... therefore whatever the real issues are it must be said or at least implied that the USA and Britain are at fault and in some way deficient in their very existence.

Well whatever ..... A roundup of reports at BBC for comparison.

Anti Trust Investigations Irk Corporate Lawyers

From The Financial Post

An independent report released yesterday exonerates the Competition Bureau for resorting to the use of secret hearings before a judge to obtain sweeping disclosure orders.

Now on the surface this looks like a wake up call to Canadians to see the government's use of closed hearings as investigative tools as a threat to the public. However, the reality is that in order to protect the public from anti-competitive and possibly illegal business deals we need our regulators to have unrestricted access to the facts and records of corporate mergers.

Canada's Anti-Trust legislation is laughably weak in comparison to the US and IMO the US is the best model when it comes to effective legislation in this area.

However it seems that Private Lawyers of the CBA (Canadian Bar Assn.) feel slighted....

"The bar wasn't fully consulted," James Musgrove of the CBA said. He criticized Mr. Gover for suggesting in his report that the competition bar has issues with "existence of the section 11 power."

Yeah Sure!

And maybe we should be asking your permission to investigate you and your clients before hand?

Oh! Wait a minute! THAT IS what the CBA is saying!

How dare they force lawyers and corporations to comply with laws!

Did The "West" Botch Georgia ?

Well .... According to Ronald D. Asmus who writes in the
New Republic that's the case.

Asmus was a Clinton deputy assistant secretary of state. Who now works as an international consultant and is executive director of the Brussels-based Transatlantic Center and responsible for strategic planning at the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

"The great debate will now begin. There will be those who will insist that the West did too much and encouraged or even emboldened the Georgians. And then there will be those who will argue that we did not do enough to prevent this war and to save Georgia. Put me firmly in the latter camp. If the West had taken these mounting tensions more seriously, this war could have been prevented. At the time, it looked too hard. Now there are many who wish they would have acted before it was too late."

Where have all these Hawkish Democrats gone? Asmus makes a convincing argument but fails to address some details that are pertinent to the current situation.

Still we have no firm answers about whether the foolish Saakashvili undertook the ethnic cleansing he is accused of. While it is plain that Russia has been positioning itself for a few years to take action like this it is not yet clear if Saakashvili is as innocent as claimed.

Another point of view from Times Of London where Richard Beeston writes that "Strutting Russia is heading for a fall"....

Lot's of partisan posturing, opinion and long rhetoric from all sides but too damned few facts for my liking.

Should we stand back while the International Rapid Response Hand Wringers leap into action?

Georgia - Russia - Geopolitics

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 Georgia like many other ex soviet satellites found itself forced into a world of change. Some of the change positive and promising some of it difficult and painful. One of the greatest challenges being the ethnic hostilities that abound across eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Caucasus.

Some of us felt that it was likely only a matter of time until the Russians would get their feet back under them and begin to repeat the behaviour of the post WWII state and it seems that under Vladimir Putin this is exactly what is taking place. Having learned a lesson from the Serbo-Croate conflagrations the Russians could see exactly what would play to their benefit in the Caucasus. Since the Georgian political revolution 0f 2003 - 2004 which placed a very hard line nationalist in power.

Under the authority of the popular Mikheil Saakashvili with his National Movement party market reforms and democratization have been advanced, but this progress has been complicated by two ethnic conflicts in the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. These two territories remained outside the control of the central government and have been ruled by de facto, unrecognized governments, supported by Russia. Russian-led peacekeeping operations continued in both regions. These "separatist" groups have been nurtured and given encouragement and support by the Russian government.

Although many residents of the northern regions of Georgia are not Native Russian those that are are a significant number and to add fuel to the fire Russia granted blanket citizenship to anyone in the region who wished it. A move that can have no other reason behind it than to take advantage of the insecurity of those people living in the border states and subsequently provide an excuse for direct Russian intervention in the area.

Now it seems that there is more than enough evidence to conclude that Saakashvili with his National Movement have been engaged in criminal attacks on ethnic Russians and possibly other groups over recent months. And this certainly does demand action from the international community. Even to the extent that the Russians should take action to enforce civil order and curtail the activities of the Georgian military or para-military groups that are engaged in such crimes.

What appears to be happening though is that the Russian Military are engaged in larger efforts to incapacitate Georgia's military and civil infrastructure in a manner that is akin to the dismantling of Iraq by the US. For this there can be only ONE reason and that is the ultimate goal of removing the Georgian military and Government.

And then what?

I suspect the worst as there are a number of strategic and tactical reasons for Russia to reassert itself in these breakaway states. The Russians and especially the Putin ex KGB statist kind have NO qualms about their inherent right to rule or in playing high stakes games. Plainly the situation in the Caucasus offers much greater potential reward than it does risk. This is especially true when you consider that Georgia under Russian control will cease to be an agitator for NATO membership, will no longer be viable as a US ally, will be unable to lend support to other key independent states in the region, will certainly not become a base for US anti-missle systems and will be a very obvious example to OTHER former SSR states seeking to maintain and develop their own independence.

It also sets the stage nicely for continued escalation of the antagonistic reprise of Cold War politics with the west and of course that means primarily the USA.

Other thoughts on the situation:

If Canadians Rely on CBC ......

............They are not getting much information.

A quick survey of how Mainstream media is covering the story of The Russian Incursion into the Free State of Georgia could be an object lesson for those who like to quote certain sources or depend on those media for their information on world events.

There can be no doubt that the current and developing crisis in the FORMER Soviet state of Georgia is the major international issue of the day. This is already having major international repercussions and will do for years to come. In fact this may be a seminal moment in the future of the greater sphere of Russian influence for all time.

And Yet .... at this time CBC offers 3 stories out of 57 international items they are running.

The Globe and Mail is running 5 out of 5 features on Europe that focus on the Georgian situation.

The overall Canadian media average is 1 in 10 ... the International Media about 1 in 2.

Now ask yourself ..... "Just what VALUE does CBC offer to Canadians?"

Friday's Beer !

As I see it there are Plenty Of Reasons to Support Denmark.

I think I may have found a couple of the very best reasons in Faxe brews.

FAXE Premium Lager from Denmark is part of the Gargantuan Unibrew family and therefore a Macro-Brewery Product.

I will avoid making distinctions between micro and macro brewers and their products because I KNOW that they both can produce excellent products and real dog piss as well.

The lager is a fine example of what I like in a summer beer. Poured into a chilled tall lager glass frigid cold.

She's pure clear golden yellow and pours to a fine solid looking head of white. The spume dissipates too quickly for my liking but such is the way of some.

The aroma is a fine example of the grassy hops and slight undertone of earthy malt and ferment that lagers are supposed to exude when they are no being jazzed with specialty ingredients.

The feel on my palate was clean and just a slight creaminess that I did not expect. The flavour was slightly herbal and maybe a bit of bitter tang ( again a lager trait) that finishes pure and clean.
This is a thirst quencher in my opinion a fine one .... I'd go after her again.

Tried with dinner of smoked pork chops and fresh corn on the cob it was just the right beverage. I'd drink Faxe with burgers, BBQ and bar snacks any day.

Nothing fancy ... just good lager ... a straight forward working girl to quench your thirst.

I Guess We Are Not Supposed to Remember ...

That it was these guys who were busy enabling the Chinese for decades.

From CP :

Canadian protests of China's human rights record continue in advance of Games .... Says The Headline

OTTAWA - Opposition members of Parliament have spoken out against human-rights abuses in China, one day before the official opening of the Olympics in Beijing.

Liberal MP Irwin Cotler says, on the eve of the Games, the world is seeing continuing human rights violations by China.

Cotler calls it a betrayal of the Olympic charter.

Former Liberal David Kilgour accuses China of killing Falon Gong practitioners, and wonders how the Communist country was ever awarded the Olympic Games.

Well of course they are bad mouthing the Chinese right NOW .... because in their minds they believe that this is an embarrassment to the Conservative Government.

When in fact what they themselves are and always have been is an embarrassment to Canadians through word and deed for decades and continuing until they are finally gone and forgotten.

The Socialist Paradise - Problems Still?

In an article found at Bloomberg

`The court agreed that cramming three men into a cell was an affront to human dignity and broke French hygiene regulations,'' said Etienne Noel, his lawyer. ``Now I have several inmates writing me about their conditions.''

Almost 10 years after a book on overcrowding, rats and disease at Paris's La Sante prison shocked France, conditions in the nation's 195 jails are worse, social activists say. On July 28, Justice Minister Rachida Dati presented a bill to build more jails and increase use of electronic bracelets to keep inmates at home to ease congestion in cells, some of which have barely twice the space France's animal rights society recommends for a dog.

H/T to Joe .... at !No Pasaran! ...... Who observes :

Anthrax Mailer Found - Dead!

Another story that had gone down the memory hole of the MSM for years...
The rash of anthrax laced letters that were going around shortly after 9/11 ....

The FBI investigated the wrong guy for years and eventually paid him millions for wrecking his career and life.

Apparently the same technology that eliminated Army scientist Steven Hatfill as a suspect led them to Bruce E. Ivins who worked at the same Army biodefense laboratory at Fort Detrick.

Now get this .....

The therapist for Bruce E. Ivins told a judge that as far back as 2000, the late microbiologist suspected in the 2001 anthrax attacks had attempted to poison people and that she was "scared to death" of him, according to an audiotape of the session that emerged Saturday.

Social worker Jean Duley testified at a hearing in Frederick on July 24 in a successful bid for a protective order from Ivins. The New York Times obtained a recording of the hearing and posted it on its Web site Saturday.

"As far back as the year 2000, the respondent has actually attempted to murder several other people, either through poisoning. He is a revenge killer. When he feels that he's been slighted or has had - especially toward women - he plots and actually tries to carry out revenge killings," Duley said.

She added that Ivins "has been forensically diagnosed by several top psychiatrists as a sociopathic, homicidal killer. I have that in evidence. And through my working with him, I also believe that to be very true."

Duley told the judge she was "scared to death" of Ivins.

So people knew this guy was a freak of the first magnitude and considered him dangerous, suspected him of murder or attempted murder through poisoning etc...... and THE FBI were NOT on top of him like white on rice!!

The guy just committed suicide a few days ago while authorities were "Closing In" ......

Now I don't know about how the FBI works so much but considering the magnitude of this case notwithstanding the potential ongoing repercussions ...... just what the hell were they waiting for?

And just where the hell does a social worker get off keeping this guy's story a secret??

More .... HERE !

Forgotten Things

In the USA the ongoing investigations of groups established in the US that have proven ties to Terrorist organizations go on more or less unnoticed and certainly unremarked in the MSM.

Nevertheless they do go on.

Marginalized Action Dinosaur picks up on The Investigation into International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) A group that poses as a Think Tank located in Virginia.

What strikes me is that US justice officials found it appropriate to make deals with these scumbags in return for some sort of cooperation.

As I've been saying for years ... The appropriate tool for dealing with these subversive and clearly dangerous people is to apply the standing laws on sedition in the most vigorous manner possible.

Dealing with vermin like this is like teasing rats with food in order to bring a couple out in the open.... while you are playing games the rest are feeding and breeding out of sight.

Federal NDP leader Jack Layton and wife Olivia Chow took part in the festivities on board the party's float in the procession.

Caribana is a tribute to one of the many aspects of Canada's multiculturalism, he said.

"The diverse community that is represented here at Caribana is one of the most exciting manifestation of who we are as a country," Layton said.

"Besides who ever (needed) an excuse to dance up and down the waterfront of Toronto hour after hour."

The event was also a big boost for tourism in the city, which saw a sluggish July.

Friday's Beer

More of a recap from last weeks adventure and a Preview of the weekend picks .....as I'm doing the evening out........................

Last week there was a bit if a brew-ha-ha at the place where we and our friends hoped to enjoy our wedding anniversaries. Seems the policy of hiring bimbos as hostesses and servers has some drawbacks .... like they don't listen, don't write things down where they are supposed to, don't know the policies and practices of the joint and don't know the first thing about the beer they serve.
I won't dwell on all the sordid details of the clusterf@ck these poor simps created and I'm happy to report that it only took a while ( and a couple of free beers) to get us back in the groove we had planned and arranged to be in.

But One Thing I must say ...... when you serve Hoegaarden on tap and get an order for one .... DO NOT ... bring me frikin Stella in a Stella Glass and try to convince me it's a Hoegaarden !!

I will drink the Stella while you go back and bring me the beer I ordered ... and your manager will (as he did) pay for them both.

Ok! Got that off my chest .... so what's on tap this weekend?

For the OMMAG crew it's going to be a trip back to the well of HalfPints

Little Scrapper IPA

and as a alternate for some variety a few more of these....
