McEwan's Scotch Ale / Malt Liquor/ Wee Heavy 8.0% in a 355ml bottle




Some confusion over what this is exactly .... Malt Liquor / Scotch Ale ?

As far as I can tell it's the only 8% abv brew they make so I'll go with the product info from the brewer.
The brew pours a zesty head of tan foam over a clear coffee brown body. That thick head settles down to about 1/2 inch after a few minutes and then becomes a lacy remnant after a sip or two.

The aroma of a bakeshop underlies grassy meadows and some citrus fruit and even a bit of alcohol in the mix. A very promising combination of scents that is strong but not too much of anything.

On the lips and over the tongue she's a bonny lass! Smooth, creamy and so full of freshness.. robust malts that almost provide a chocolate like flavour, very rich taste and almost sweet. She finishes leaving an aftertaste of toasted caramel.

With the appetizing qualities here ... No problem quaffing two or three of these at all!
I'd recommend this strong beverage for meals or just for the experience.

Various police forces target Mohawk communities in drug raids

MONTREAL - Various police forces have cracked down on what they are calling a drug ring that operated in Montreal and various Mohawk communities.

Police say they are hoping to arrest about 30 people and charge some of them with gangsterism and drug trafficking.

The RCMP, Quebec provincial police, Mohawk authorities and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration took part in the raids in Montreal and the Mohawk communities of Kahnawake, Kanesatake and Akwesasne.

The Mounties are expected to hold a news conference this afternoon to discuss the raids.

We've got a NEW Beer from Half Pints Brewing company here in Winnipeg.

It's Weizenbock although not a NEW beer for this year but rather a returning seasonal.
Half Pint's bock is now delivered to the store in 341ml Bottles rather than those monster 660ml units ... still 6.2% abv and still no doubt a Treat! Oh Yeah! It WAS Good....

Those first kisses are oh so sweet.........

And so it is again ..... wonderful floral and spicy hops to get the tastebuds primed and a nicely executed combination of malts ... its clean refreshing smooth on the tongue and finishes very pleasantly.

The attack, whose victims were mostly children under the age of 18 engaged in religious study while murdered, left a 14-year-old Israeli-Canadian boy in critical condition with multiple bullet wounds and two broken ankles.

According to Aggad, “it’s no wonder” the students were attacked, because they may eventually serve in the Israel Defense Forces -- even though they were in civilian clothes, studying in a religious institution in Jerusalem, far from combat zones.

If you watched the public statement he made today you might have noticed that there was only a condemnation of certain attitudes. Followed by a weaselly rationalization of how these "feelings" are justified.

The exact same kind of stuff that would get a white man pilloried as a BIGOT and RACIST to the core.

Now from my perspective I see the logic behind Obama's assessment of what motivates people like the Rev. Wright to say what they say. Yet if these arguments are going to be accepted as reasonable then pretty much every accusation of racism that has been leveled at any white person for saying that they hold the same view when it comes to WHITE bigots deserves a retraction and sincere apology.

It won't happen .. and until Obama says that it is hypocrisy of the first order that this double standard exists then he is in fact either a liar or a hypocrite.

And since ANY white man who had said what Obama said today WOULD be BRANDED as a RACIST and an Apologist for Bigotry ..... well .... It seems plainly fair to Lay the LABEL on OBAMA!

By the Logic of the LEFT if you defend BIGOTS then YOU ARE a BIGOT!

Who will be the first denizen of the Left-o-sphere to come out and say it??

Well... seriously.... it is not going to happen ..... the double standard is part of Obama's armor and expecting him to refute that is just plain unrealistic!


Now I'd just like to say that I think his monologue on racism made a lot of sense. I applaud his heartfelt and thoughtful insights into the situation as it exists today.

But I do have a Big problem with what seems to be the moral equivalence he expresses in regard of his family and his close community.
Remember that this is a man who wishes to become the MOST POWERFUL man in the world.
For good or ill that is what falls on the shoulders of the POTUS.

If those shoulders are not supported by a moral foundation that is up to the task then what you can expect is not only failure but disastrous failure.

Friday's Beer!

JUST because we are zeroing in St. Patrick's Day I thought I'd open a couple of these .....

It's Moling's Traditional Celtic Beer!
And we delved into this back in February and when I tried it then I thought to garner a couple more for the store room and a little St. Paddy's treat!


They Call it Celtic Red Ale ..... Check out the web site for Carlow Brewing of Ireland.

It's a 500ml bottle at 4.3abv......


This one pours into a substantial cream coloured head and the body is clear and deep in the amber range. The froth settles down within a few minutes to a thin cap of lace and the beer continues to produce a steady stream of effervescence as long as there remains something in the glass.

The aroma is strong on the hops and these ones are very much like a citrus garden. I smell the earth and the flowers and it takes a while with the nose in the glass to pick up the malts. They are there but the hops just come on strong. I find it really quite pleasant.

Over the tongue this beer is smooth and clean. There's a little bite from the hops and then the toasty taste of malt ....... leaving a pleasant and clean feeling at the back end of it all.
Very nice and I could certainly enjoy one or two tall glasses of this grand gargle!


And so .... an Irish Toast : May neighbours respect you, Trouble neglect you, The angels protect you, And heaven accept you.

Now of course He didn't say anything specifically ( that anyone knows of) about Hillary Clinton so the witches campaign team can't cry fowl over that in particular. However, it remains that on the basis of a questionable remark on the one hand a senior adviser gets the boot yet on the other hand a mentor and long time influencer of a black candidate gets almost NO attention.

Of course there was that little incident where Obama's foreign policy wench got sacked over some candid comments about Hillary Clinton ..... "She's a monster!" said Samantha Power.
Another thing that I find it easy to agree with because it is essentially true.


So what does this prove? Well just basically that as along as comments by Liberals that are over the line are directed at Conservatives there won't be much said about it.

But As soon as it happens that a Liberal is the target of pointed observation all bets are off!

Also seems to show that in the game of Identity Politics ... Race TRUMPS Gender.

And that means only one thing ..... Regardless of what kind of background Barack Hussein Obama has ..... he automatically wins every exchange with Clinton.

While some are asking whether there will be a quid pro quo between the Obama camp and the Clinton camp on this matter .... It is obvious that the matter is settled and decisively NO!

The "Study" consisted of TWO subjects ... That's right ... they had TWO subjects who presented to a group of doctors for evaluation and treatment. One of them ... the Male .... is ignored in the story that covers the study.

A blatantly obvious effort conducted by a couple of female doctors who decided that the Hunt for Bias needed to fit the their preconceptions. One thing that struck me was that the 72 year old Woman DID get the surgery.

No details were provided on the MALE undercover subject's experience!


Of course the fact that this pathetic example of a study gets uncritical cheerleading from the CBC should be no surprise.
Besides the fact that the CBC loves a manufactured story better than any fact based efforts....

It fits right in with one of their favorite themes ...... Women are always victims!



Reality check on arthroplasty .... the risks of damage through infection or other complications are very serious.
Good doctors take these risks into account and should be hesitant to make recommendations for surgery based on short term experience with ANY patient.

Indulging in Schadenfreude !

Given the large amount of snow we've had and especially in the last few weeks and given that we are about two weeks from the official start of Spring .... I can understand a certain amount of interest in how our Canadian Winter is evolving.

But! .... In my heart I know that this is CANADA where we are living and that we may well have ... Cold Weather and Snow and all the usual things that happen between the months of November and May. We may even have major snowstorms in May for that matter. It's all happened before and there is NO reason to think that it cannot happen again.

So, as I watch the news reports this morning where our intrepid CBC reporters are telling us how difficult things are in Ontario and how deeply weary those poor denizens of Ottawa are of the winter, I just cannot help experiencing a twinge of satisfaction at the lessons that are being imposed on those folks who seem to think that they are somehow immune from these realities.

For those stranded would be travelers who have had their larks to warmer climates postponed or otherwise interfered with ..... I admit to indulging in a small measure of satisfaction at the predicament. After all ..... those vacations are hardly matters of great import to anyone but the self indulgent folks who are affected.

Winter! May it last until it's over !

We in Canada are not immune from it no matter where in the country we reside or do business.
And just as a matter of fairness and to keep some otherwise oblivious people in mind of WHERE we live and the NATURE of our physical world ...... I say keep it coming!

Friday's Beer ..... Redux !

Since my first adventure for today came to be such a letdown ...

We bring to you from Daleside Brewery Yorkshire The Very Respectable ... Morocco Ale !

They say the recipe is 300 years old and still followed faithfully to this day!

Supposedly named for its dark complexion as like the Moorish invaders of Spain.

The bottle is 500ml and the rating 5.5% abv.


This dark treat pops nicely and pours with a warm tan coloured head that dissipates into a lacy skim after a bit. The body is clear and a dark coffee colour with slight effervescence sustained throughout the whole glass.
The nose is really something special with a grassy meadows sort of scent riding on top of some powerful chocolate and coffee aromas with spices to boot. Quite an experience to absorb before you even get to the first taste.

And don't worry baby because that first mouthful is a real joy!

The dark malts colour your palate with everything that the first whiff promised. There's chocolate and coffee, burnt caramel and nuts with a bakeshops selection of rich bread and spices.
She's a wonderfully complex and strong experience from start to finish. The sensation on your tongue is creamy. The finish smooth and with a lingering bit of coffee taste.

It's all good..... I would have no problem finishing two or three in short order and I'd bet the same for anyone who likes a rich full bodied ale.
Personally I have no problem understanding why this recipe has been preserved for over three centuries!

Friday's Beer!

Well the sun is well over the yard arm as they say ..... it's Friday after all and we've got things to do!

I'm going out on a limb with a product from the Brouwerij Verhaeghe of Belgium.

It's called Echt Kriekenbier and it's described as a Malt Beverage with Cherries Added!

The bottle is 330ml and the rating is 6.8% abv.


As you can see by the picture it's very red and clear with a tenuous head. The beverage pours cleanly and what foam there is settles out immediately.

The nose is and odd sensation like what comes off the top of a pot when you cook cherries for pie only without the sugar and caramel that usually goes along with that experience. If you've ever tried to make choke cherry wine you'll know what I mean.

The first taste is a real surprise .... fizzy and tart very dry and kind of disappointing. It does not get any better with the second or third and so on.............

What this beverage needs is some rich malts to put a warm and sweet base under that acidic cherry fruit.

Some aromatic hops would serve well in this brew as well.......

But it does not have either of those redeeming qualities and so......... I've got to give this sour puss beverage a solid thumbs down. And I'm pouring it down the drain..............

Too Bad..... but you can always find another opinion!

Today we find out who CanWest News Service starts to fill in the blanks ....

TORONTO- A man was charged with attempted murder on Wednesday following a knife attack that has left his 14-year-old daughter fighting for her life in hospital.

Kamal Khanna, 44, reportedly was arrested while sitting on the steps of his home in suburban Alliston, Ont., south of Barrie, on Tuesday morning when police responded to an emergency call at his home.

Khanna was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. He will remain in custody until his bail hearing next Tuesday.

His daughter, Ashna Khanna, a Grade 8 student, was found unconscious and bleeding from several knife wounds. She was first rushed to a local hospital and then flown to Toronto's Sunnybrook Medical Centre, where she remained in critical condition Wednesday night. The man's wife and other daughter were home when police arrived.

Overheard In a Coffee Shop in the Wee Hours of the Morning!

Most outlandish conspiracy theory ever!

" I overheard the following (much abridged, and cleaned up for family viewing) at a coffee shop this morning. The speaker, holding forth at some volume, did not seem to possess more than one degree from an institute (and not necessarily one of higher learning!) and proclaimed it thusly:

Hillary will fight hard until about a week before the Penn primary, when she will suddenly announce an alliance with Obama on a "unity" ticket, with HRC as VP.

Obama accepts the nomination at the DNC, everyone is sweetness and light. Bill accepts Barack as the son he never had, and promises to work hard to get him elected.

Now, this is where it gets weird (and the easily offended might wish to stop reading here). At this point, frothing slightly more than a cappuccino machine at full blast, the orator insists that HRC's long range plan is to get Obama out on the campaign trail in the certainty that somewhere, sometime, someone who won't accept a n.. er, African-American (his original words, not mine!) as president will put a bullet in him. HRC rises to top of the ticket, and on a wave of sympathy, rides back to the White House.

At this point, he degenerated into various examples such as Vince Foster, Whitewater, Rose Law firm, etc. in reducing degrees of coherency. Not being equipped as Atticus Finch in "To Kill A Mockingbird" to deal with a rabid dog, I left.

What did surprise me was that his audience of 2 men and a woman sat there raptly, apparently enjoying every word of his screed. "

Johnny on the spot Liberal Cheerleader Keith Boag found out about a book that has been written by a guy named Tom Zytaruk.

Care to guess where this author's political sympathy's lie?

Odd that Mrs. Cadman who was also willing to run for the CPC seat that her (independent) Husband vacated is not being quoted too closely and her supposed friend NDPer Penny Priddy when interviewed on CBC said she would not be asking Donna Cadman for details but rather that the 'serious" alegations demanded a public inquiry be held.

Well not so much because when simply asking Mrs Cadman for details would clear up the whole issue immediately that prelude the nearly infinite opportunity for hyperbole and grandstanding that an inquiry would provide the pols.

Oh yeah and notice the CBC's Use of the Million Dollar Offer in the headline! The actual story is about the supposed offer of setting up an insurance policy. Not exactly the same thing as waving $ around the office!

My bet is that the whole thing is BS ....
