A Father's Day Beer

Well lucky me! I was fortunate enough to have this treat brought to me last week and now double lucky because my visiting relatives were satisfied before it got down to the very special....



Abbey de St. Martin kerstbier

Not something you'd expect to come your way in June .... but that's how things work when you live in the beer wastelands of the prairies.

In spite of what you may have heard or read about this beer ... It really is something special.


The bottle I opened just about exploded with deep caramel froth ( I might show you the pool on my countertop some time) .....

The pour was lively even though being chilled and the body in the happy glass was deep amber topped by healthy head that settled down to just a 1/4 inch or so.

The nose consists of fragrances complex and strong.... ginger, cardamom, caraway, cloves, juniper, dried fruit ... minced meat. The aroma sets off taste alarms in flavour town that cannot be silenced.

The flavour is just like the aroma ... except the bake shop sweets and caramel malts come over the top and the herbs and spices just clean the palate for the next mouthful.

Given the right circumstances and the time to enjoy it .... St. Martin cuvee de noel really is something special.

My senses always aroused by a new Belgian ... especially if she's a strong beer.
The pour into the happy glass produces a lively pale yellow body that is slightly cloudy with little floaters and a pure crisp head of blonde/white froth that takes a few minutes to settle down.

First whiff is a pleaser ... those fabulous floral hops that come through like fresh cut grass and apple blossoms. PROMISES!

The draught produces just what I've come to expect from such a beer. There's a hint of fruit and slight acidity with a thrill of sweetness then the creamy body insinuates over the palate... then a slight bitterness and some banana on the end.

There is a lingering mellow aftertaste and then there's another sip .... repeat as necessary.

The Happy Glass empties all too quickly!

First rate I say ... no disappointments here.

But of course there are OTHER opinions!

Friday's Beer !

I dig oysters ..... even in a bottle......................

A reprise from a couple of years ago that does not disappoint. A great way to spend a little time out in man world... (The Workshop)

Comes from the same folks who offer brands like Banks Mansfield and Jennings.

This is a BIG beverage company with lots of brand power and operates breweries and pubs around the UK.
So I was pleasantly surprised by the great nature of this Dark Beer!




Marstons Oyster Stout

She pours deeply dark and rich like the colour of very strong coffee and produces a really rich caramel coloured head. The effervescence dies out rather quickly but that seems to be fair for this kind of brew.
The nose on Oyster is very much filled with citrus fruit and hop flowers at first.
After a few draughts it is largely rich malty burnt sugar aromas with some interesting spice like sensations.

This is a true stout to my palate with strong first flavour and a clean finish that make the next sip come sooner and the rest frequently. It would be easy to over indulge with this beer!

All in all this is a very pleasant beverage to experience and I'd say it would make a great compliment with a decent lunch or dinner like chops, meat pie, stew or even a rich pasta dish.
Hearty beer that seems like it would go well with hearty food.

Like the label says "Dark - Rich - Smooth"

Following a huge financial crisis, Icelandic voters have just thrown traditional politics out the window. They have elected a comedian’s party to six of fifteen Reykajavik municipal seats.

The campaign promises of the comedian’s party included bringing a polar bear to the Reykajavik petting zoo, Palm trees to Iceland’s frigid shoreline and a rearrangement of statues.

The leader of the “Best Party” is comedian Jon Gnarr. It is now believed he has a strong chance of becoming the mayor of Reykajavik.

Yep .... I was sincerely PO'd when the Chretien Liberals paid off "Lyin Brian" over his threatened legal action back 1997.

So just how does this become our current government's problem?

Without so much as a batted eyelash the current Libs and the other opposition stooges get right on top of it ... and of course with the help of the usual tools in the MSM the theme of the day is .... Brian Mulroney is Stephen Harper's problem.....

Well I am here to say B-U-L-L S-H-I-T IN CAPITALS ..... because that is entirely what this is. Nothing but revisionist bombast from the very folks who actually were responsible for letting the worm wriggle off the hook.

Mulroney was Chretien's problem in '97 and remains the Liberal's problem to this day.
It was the LIbranos that let Mulroneyoff the hook back then and they did it to avoid an extended criminal investigation that would have ended up squarely (and rightfully) in their own laps.

One little bluster from Mulroney and the RCMP investigation into his activities was tanked.
One little threat from the former PM and the LIbranos fold like a the cheap suit they were and still are.
Who gave Brian Mulroney 2 million dollars? The Chretien LIberals with the usual largess they have for our money when it can be used to avoid trouble for themselves.

Thats Taxpayer money bucko!

Yes ... Mulroney owes Canadians money .... NOT the government as the leftarded opposition and their media flunkies have tried to frame it.
It was NEVER the government's money in the first place even if the liberals cannot understand that distinction. It was and remains money that belongs to Canadian Taxpayers.
