Forests of the Sea ?

Like roaming herds of Bison are "Forests of the Plain"...

Dr Andrew Pershing from the University of Maine described whales as the "forests of the ocean". From BBC it figures.......

And I thought that Kelp and Sargasso beds were the forest of the ocean.
In sheer volume it would be phytoplankton.

The Basics of Carbon Cycle ... seem to be a mere trifle to those Phd Activists.

When any scientist decides to throw out Scientific Principle for the sake of political advocacy they cease to have any credibility as a scientist.

What is really going on here is that the shills for the Save The Whales groups are attempting to conflate their pet causes with what they see as a "winning" cause in AGW.

The sad truth they reveal in doing so is that they are too stupid to understand that the AGW horse is DEAD and all the flogging in the world is not going help.

Proving yet again that the world is full of high IQ idiots, so called intellectuals without a shred of sense or integrity and a willing group of sycophantic shills in the media.

Down Memory Lane ...

Then:

Calling out Senators and such.

And NOW:

Calling out British Tabloids for straying from the fold.

I kinda like how the issue is "stolen e-mails" and not the blatant evidence of fraud they reveal.

As for the Tabloids .... they were happy to preach "The Sky is Falling" dogma of these social activists disguised as scientific researchers.

Now .... I'm sure they will be happy to play torchbearers for the pitchfoks and sickle crowd as the witchhunt takes up.

After that ... they will likely turn supporters of state authoritarian measures to control the "Mob".

After that ... they will become responsible adults and contribute something useful to our society.

Just joking.

Before the worm turns that many times the publishing business is going to be gone the way of the dodo ...

Safe InThe Arms of Our Zero Choices Medical System

Phee-yoo-ee! :O

Greg House was not in last night... and neither were any of his crew.

Just as well ... because the simple things are sometimes just what is needed.

Winnipeg First Responders were capable and efficient and ready with the real painkillers. I was lucky enough to get a few shots of fentanyl under the tongue and a narco-drip. Once in the EM ward... I got handled pdq .... and a new narcotic was deliverd.

Three cheers for the Winnipeg EMTs and firemen.

Morning brought in the day shift ... and the bureaucrat with a Md. on his name tag .... I suppose that it's not really his fault that policies say "Go back to your GP and tell him what happened."

Too bad the hospital refused to do any follow-up tests.... they could have ... I was already in the hospital .... but no ..... it's back into the queue to find out just what the hell happened!

Instead We get to involve a lot of other bureaucrats and doctors and spend three times the money.

I think maybe it is time for some health care tourism.

A Window On The Soul of A Socialist

The headline should read .. Communist Opposes Christian Groups Involved in Community

I doubt if anyone who knows anything about the NDP MP for Winnipeg Center would deny that he is a socialist to the core. Most would consider him a communist at heart, a true disciple of Karl Marx, VI Lenin, Tommy Douglas etc. and admirer of all those. I'm sure he wears that dubious distinction with a great deal of pride.

The man whose great crusade over the years has been the abolition of the penny. The man who jumps on every politically correct bandwagon that comes along and never misses an opportunity to play divisive political games. I think that he represents everything that is wrong with this sort.

It came to my attention through my Kid who is taking some sociology courses, that the Winnipeg Free Press had an article in Thursday's paper on the matter of Pat Martin. She brought an assignment to me to address the issues that this exposes. University sociology programs, vapid local newspapers, and communist haters of all things Christian rolled up in one package.

Writers Bartley Kives and Jenny Ford use up the top half of the front page in the City&Business section of the paper to tell us about a plan to build a "Youth Center" on the currently barren northwest corner of Higgins and Main. What they also, somewhat surprisingly, do is offer a fairly straight forward selection of pros and cons as articulated by members of city council and other interested parties. Not surprising that no pointed questions were asked of either Martin or John Courter who is taking the lead in this project. But, given the state of affairs at the Free Press I suppose a simple juxtaposition and some supporting background to a story is as much as one could expect.

What is most instructive in this article is the fact that they place the objections of Pat Martin to this project on an equal footing to the people who are driving the project.

You also might wonder why a good socialist and supporter of all things like social programs and centers for social activity and support workers who make it their business to direct effort to helping the needy and neglected would be anything but a big supporter of this new effort.

Well the simple answer and the truth of it are plain to see in Martin's own words:

"These people are evangelical fundamentalists. Offering much needed sport opportunities is just their way of luring in young prospects."

Uhuh! Pat Martin knows that Christians who might be evangelical or fundamentalist are up to no good by the very fact that they are or may be those things. Youth centers and opportunities for education or support can only be good if those who are running them are from his group of like minded government trough feeding types. Those sneaky Christians are going to play bait and switch. They might actually convince some poor innocent that taking responsibility for their actions and changing the way they live could result in a better life too!

If you take a look at the other "Projects" that occupy the corners of Higgins&Main you will get the idea of what he does approve. Building paid for by taxpayers that are populated by taxpayer funded cultural groups and social services organizations that continue to abuse and mismanage the properties and show no form of responsibility whatsoever... promoting the concept that the "government" is just going to keep forking over whatever is needed or desired and that those who need or desire are entitled to it all. Hmmmm ... just the kind of folks who are likely to be voting for socialist Pat Martin.

And of course the egalitarian Martin has no problem with Christian groups per se ... just so long as they stick to providing handouts and know their place.

"I have no objection to faith-based organizations providing services. The Sally-Ann and others have been doing a great job for years." Says Martin!

On the matter of government support for such projects, "Would the federal government be so willing to give them $3 million if they were called Youth for Allah?"

Ahhhh! The tolerant left...... Never mind the blatant demonizing of Christian groups ... Martin lets us in on another of his gems of acquired wisdom. Apparently, if the federal government funds a project that will be run by a Christian group it is different from funding a project that is run by another religious group. I guess Pat Martin is unaware of the scores of projects that are funded under exactly the same sort of program that do get run by Islamic groups or Hindu groups or Sikh groups or what ever GROUP you care to name. The fact being, that the funding is not provided on the basis of which group is spearheading the project.

Unless .... you allow Pat Martin and his ilk to decide ... then it is perfectly clear that all selections for funding are to be made based on HIS prejudices. Commissar Pat.

By the way ... the Provincial government is not funding the project.

I wonder why?

More Pat Martin Here!

And Free Press Editorial on Martin's "Irrational Outburst"...

There those among us who would say that Pat Martin is nothing but a never ending Irrational Outburst!

Friday's Beer !

Say Hello to Hockley Dark - Traditional English Ale

I don't know how traditional this red amber hued tall one is. But I do know that she fills a glass with a lovely clear body topped by a tawny head that smells sweet as a fresh cut lawn.

There's perfume like citrus in the mix and some bakeshop teasers to get the taste buds primed and if I stick my nose right into the glass a bit of nuttiness.

The taste not as strong as the perfume and the nose is not overwhelmed ...but pleasant nontheless, a touch sweet, a bit thin ...but smooth.

A slightly clinging finish ... but there's a good reason to have another big swallow.

If quenched thirst is the goal .... Hockley Dark could be the way to get there.

The Maker's Tale

I'd be happy to buy a few more cans and share them.....

St. Valentine's Day - Jihadi Style

9 dead... 60 injured .... Sharing the love as prescribed by the 7th century sociopath.... and practiced by the 21st century death cultists.

In Pune India

A sleeper cell of the Indian Mujahideen (IM), a home-grown Islamist terrorist group, is strongly suspected to be behind Saturday’s Pune bombing that has come days after the arrest of one of its top operatives, highly placed sources said.

The attack – on a “soft target” like the German Bakery – is a “copycat strike” of what the group had used in carrying out bombings earlier in Bangalore, Ahmedabad and New Delhi in 2008, the sources told IANS.

Intelligence agencies that collected material evidence from the blast site at the German Bakery and also questioned afresh the terror outfit’s arrested operatives say the needle of suspicion points towards the Indian Mujahideen.

I suppose any Saturday is as good as another for slaughtering infidels.

A Night Out for Dining

The OMMAGs paid a repeat visit to the Resto Gare in Saint B last night.

I'd sum up the evening as : Situation Normal All OK with props to the staff for attentiveness and accommodation.
Out meals consisted of the Rack of Lamb, the Bison Short Ribs and our guests shared the Chateaubriand. Appetizers and salads included the Scallops in White wine sauce (Coquille St. Jaques) with mushrooms and a nice Caesar salad.

Deserts were off the cart and I can say that the Maple Syrup pie had only ONE failing and that was the slice was too damned small.

The highlight of the evening though was our second wine selection.

We tried :
Casa Silva Reserve Carmenere from the "Big and Juicy" section of the menu and I was impressed to the max.

The nose on this hearty Chilean Red was an amazing floral and spice perfume that was IMO the most unique and appealing aroma I have ever experienced in a wine.
The body dark and opaque with legs all around the glass and the palate was pleased with a robust (although not as intense as the nose) spicy and rich grape.

The Carmenere grape is one of the survivors that were preserved from the grape blight that destroyed so many European varieties in the 1800s. Thank you Chile and thank you Casa Silva.

Friday's Beer !

Just tried a bottle of Schofferhofer Hefeweizen ...

And my oh my!

This genuine teutonic blonde is an eyefull......

She Pours into a tall glass producing an outstanding head of white foam. Looks cloudy to the point of being opaque.

A mouthfull......

Got to chew on the top a little and it was just chock full of hoppiness.

A snootfull....

Well balanced... aroma of floral hops, grasses and banna with citrus.

And she just keeps getting better....

Smooth and creamy on the tongue .... the palate gets a taste of buttery and slightly sweet grains.
Hops are greatly subdued after the head was done.

A heartbreaker .....

The finish is clean and leaves me lusting after more.

I could drink a lot of this beer..... Highly recommended by me to quench the biggest thirst.

There are ... of course : Other Opinions

Why Would Any Business Support The HSUS?

Bad enough that these con artists are in your neighborhood sucking in the gullible and the foolishly naive. When a business goes public with support for the likes of the HSUS the consequences could should be ...

Boycott!

In letters writ large is exactly what the bottlers of Australia's Yellow Tail wine need to see as a consequence of their abject ignorance (or willful maliciousness).

If you are a fan of imported wines you may have purchased Yellow Tail at some time ... I have.

But I will not be anymore.

The Humane Society of the United States has NOTHING to do with protecting animals and everything to do with Anti - Agriculture activism.

They do not in any way shape or form assist your local shelter in protecting pets as most people who donate to them believe. What they do .... is collect Hundreds of Millions of dollars which they then use to fund political campaigns to have legislation enacted that puts farmers out of business.

Now if you happen to agree with that sort of thing then by all means fill your boots.

On the other hand if you care one iota about the foundational industries of our society .... all you have to do is NOTHING .... just don't buy Yellow Tail at your store or in a restaraunt.

If you care a bit more ... try contacting them with a message

From some "expert" quoted by an MSMer :

Here is how Queensland University's Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, a world expert on coral reefs and climate change, describes what happened when he contributed a small slice of the 2007 IPCC report:

"The IPCC has one of the most rigorous review processes I have ever experienced...."

Observe that Neither one of them actually know whether there was any so called peer review ... or bother to ask. They simply follow the doctrine that because the IPCC claimed that there was peer review ..... that it must be so.

In the case of the cited interview and article by ABC Australia's Margot O'Neill. it happened back in November and therefore she may claim ignorance of the issues in regard to the IPCC's lack of credibility. BUT .... since I and many others were well aware of the nature of the IPCC and it's cohort well before that time (2 years) ..... exactly WHY that should be a valid defence would be beyond reason.

But for the matter of the quoted scientist and so called expert ... if that is the most rigorous review process he ever experienced, it should make everyone ask "Just what sort of peer review HAVE you experienced?

The "experts" who resort to sources of accreditation for their credibility seem to miss the fact that they ...themselves ...have undermined or allowed to be undermined... those very sources.

A house of cards .... dwellings built upon sand.

Seems to me the scientific community has forgotten the principle keeping you own house in good order and the foundations in proper repair.

Instead of doing that by maintaining vigilant scrutiny of the institutions they rely on for checks and balances. Instead of keeping their own house in order, it seems that they as a group .... have allowed their house to be undermined and infested.

As for the MSM .... stupider by the day. Beyond hope... beyond redemption.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In an unfortunate turn of events ..... a Canadian MSM outlet fails to preserve their archives:

"Fire destroys CTV's Ottawa newsroom; archives lost"

"Among the losses were the local news archives of Ottawa's history and the 37-year video history of anchor Max Keeping who is set to retire April 1, CTV said in a story published on its website."

Saturday Entertainment

Andrew Breitbart speaks the bang on truth about the MSM and LIberals in general... a feel good moment with a standing ovation.

With a H/T to SDA

Speaking to the dozens of reporters assembled in the back of the room, Andrew said this:
“It’s not your business model that sucks, it’s you that sucks.”

Well .... I'd say that the business model sucks a little but the majority of the sucking is certainly being performed by the likes of the CNN and MSNBC crews.

Being recognized for the absolute contempt with which they hold the public this is one of those pivotal moments, in my opinion, where those that heard the words will never be able to go back to how they viewed things before.

From the comments ... A disgusted former Democrat .... "....
I will never trust one word these a$$holes say anymore."

It's not just the US media either
!

Around the world we have daily examples of this sort of failure by the MSM to deliver the goods on major issues. On the Canadian scene the likes of CTV-CBC-GlobalTV and the pitifull shills at the Globe & Mail continue to filter and distort news every day.

Add to this
virtually every daily local paper and most magazines and the effect of the distortion is overwhelming .....to the point that most seem to feel that it just could not happen.

Well ..... FYI ..... It CAN and It HAS and It Goes ON Every Day!

Friday's Beer !

Meet Fort Gibraltar .... a Beer from Winnipeg's Fort Garry Brewing.

I'm not sure what the whole deal with this one is...

But it seems to be a promotion for the Festival du Voyageur. Also, you can apparently win a trip for two to Churchill MB.

Whatever.....

The beer itself pours a nice clear golden glassful with a short lived head of white foam.

The nose is a good bablance of citrus and banana hops with a touch of malts underneath. Not bad.

The first taste gives a fairly clean and malty reward with a smooth feel and a lingering finish.

But that's the end of the good stuff .... once the hops have gone there remains a metalic tinge and the tell tale burps of forced carbonation in the drink. The last straw is the sure proof of preservatives having been added ..... my sinus goes dry and so does my back of the throat.
With that goes my desire to have another taste.

In spite of the fact that they advertise this beer as "naturally aged without preservatives" I can tell you that for certain there are perservatives in this can.

This beer is best left on the shelf.

The Spreading Blight of Political Correctness

The US Air Force Academy has established an official place of worship for Pagans.

A Stone Circle has been constructed to accommodate a group of unspecified number.

Note the language employed to justify this:

The presence of diverse worship areas reflects a sea change from five years ago, when reports surfaced alleging religious intolerance at the Academy. Sergeant Longcrier became Pagan shortly after arriving at the Academy in 2006 and said he believes the climate has improved dramatically.

"When I first arrived here, Earth-centered cadets didn't have anywhere to call home," he said. "Now, they meet every Monday night, they get to go on retreats, and they have a stone circle. ... We have representation on the Cadet Interfaith Council, and I even meet with the Chaplains at Peterson Air Force Base once a year to discuss religious climate."

Sure thing bucko.... perhaps a review of the recruitment and hiring practices of the armed forces are in order?
