Little Cat Feet

Shaggy and his littermate brother Scooby came to live with us in October 2005, when they were 5 years old. Scout arrived in 2006 at the age of 6 weeks. Scooby passed over very suddenly to the Rainbow Bridge on April 1, 2012 and is remembered fondly and missed deeply.

Back to the V-E-T

Catching the summer evening breeze
Well. I got whisked off to the v-e-t today. Mom put some clues together and suspected my ummm....anal glands....might be plugged. (Like pooping in the corner because I thought the litterbox might hurt me, and a runny foul poop that she could smell through 2 closed doors...heh!) They were both impacted and full of thick putrid stuff.  The good news is after I rested for awhile I was all perky and frisky and she could tell I felt better than I have in awhile.  I've even been jumping up & down off things easier.  The bad news is I get some once a day liquid antibiotics shot down my throat for 9 days because there might be a bacterial infection going on too.   -Shaggy
Resting easy tonight

Feed Us

If we stare long enough at the cupboard with the canned food in it, do you think Mom might get the hint?  Nah. She never does. Next step for me to weave around her ankles while Shaggy meows pitifully. -Scout

Introoder Kitty

Why am I straining at the end of my leash?  That Orinch introoder kitty Maximus who lives 2 houses down from us is at the edge of the yard.  He is trying to horn in on baby birds that are in a nest in MY yard. I'm really hoping the little birdies will just fall out of that nest, and into the grass so I can.....play.....with them.  I tried to tell the little peeping babies that it would just save time if they just jumped into my waiting mouth but the bird parents objected to that and did some swoops.  Maximus introods into my yard all the time, but not if I'm out there. He runs if mom gets too close too.  -Scout
Go find your own birds, Maximus

V-E-T Visit

Harumpff..... Grumble..... Grumble....
A trip to the v-e-t is NOT an appropriate birthday present. I expect nip cigars & tuna juice and what do I get every year? Poked & prodded, shot and my blood stolen. Mom is getting forgetful as she's getting older but she never seems to forget this. Go figure.
I have lost one pound, that is great news. Scout & I eat all grain free canned foods now, no kibble, and mom gives credit to that. I give credit to the fact that she practically starves me. There is some arthritis and muscle wasting in my hind parts. Normal for a 14 year old cat.

It's my eyes that are going. Last year both my eyes were getting pretty cloudy, and they are worse now. The v-e-t turned out the lights and looked into my eyes with a bright flashlight thingy and said there was not much response going on with the pupils and the retina. Lots of age related eye changes this time. There is also a mature cataract in the right eye. He told mom I am not seeing a lot of detail and that is why I really have to size up things when I try to jump. Lots of time I try to jump and miss and he said that is because I'm not seeing a clear defined edge to things. The human equivalent would be like looking at the world through a shower door.  Mom was sad to hear this.
The girl stole my blood, and I got a shot. Guess what? Scout didn't growl at me or give me the business when I got home. After lunch mom lifted me up onto the porch swing and we read her book together. -Shaggy

Napping in the Grass

Here, birdy, birdy, bird!

I'll get 'em later
Remember this?
In other news, our room is completed. The picture doesn't convey how warm & golden it is.
And Shaggy's favorite new spot is that blankie on the leather couch.
Dad did a great job with the hardwood floor.

My Secret Garden

Earlier last month Mom wondered why I was paying a little too much attention to her empty flower pots.  It was too early to plant flowers so they were just sitting waiting.  We have several kitty friends who enjoy the sport of Pot-Sitting so she didn't think too much about it.  Then I started scratching & digging in one of them.  This made her put down her Kindle and investigate.  I was after the baby nip seedlings that didn't want to come up last year. Last summer there was an ill-fated attempt to grow our own nip. I attacked the seedlings last year as soon as they sprouted, uprooting & nomming them, dooming them to failure.  She was surprised to see more coming up this year, so she stole the pot from me and put it on the back deck so they can have a chance to grow in peace...ie: I can't get my paws into them.....! So then Zolie found them & attacked them. Mom left the little nekkid stalks alone and bought more nip seeds. The stalks re-leafed and the seeds have sprouted now that she covered them to keep all the kitties out. But when will I get to nom it again?  She wants to grow a nice big batch, and maybe plant it in the yard so it  will come up every year.  -Scout

Rescued and re-seeded, finally growing

Scout in Sink

Perfect.
And I can see the birdies out the window. too. Isn't it amazing how these round thingies come perfectly sculpted to the feline form?

Happy Birthday Shaggy!

Today I am 14.  I've gone on 2 years past my brother Scooby. He had an aneurism in his brain and went to play in the tall grass and sunshine at the Rainbow Bridge. Since we were littermates, any celebration of my birthday must include my brother. One day we will be together again. For now, I take care of mom, enjoy a good nip cigar now & then, get plenty of naps and lots of good noms.  -Shaggy
