Little Cat Feet

Shaggy and his littermate brother Scooby came to live with us in October 2005, when they were 5 years old. Scout arrived in 2006 at the age of 6 weeks. Scooby passed over very suddenly to the Rainbow Bridge on April 1, 2012 and is remembered fondly and missed deeply.

Bees

We've had a bunch of bees in our house all month.
They seem to be getting in around the window frame of one of our basement windows. The wood above the window was rotten and we had the house re-sided last fall, but there must be a gap or crack somewhere that allows them inside. We hope they don't have a nest in the wall!
One of them stung our boy on the hand in the night.
Mom killed 8 of them in her bedroom today already. They congregate in there on the window to feel the sun.
A good hard frost will hopefully kill them.
Annoying little pests. Mom's been spraying wasp stuff around the window outside and has sealed off the inside window with tape, but they are still coming in. Frost may still be a month away! Luckily no one is allergic to bee stings here.

Scout's Good Day

I had a good day yesterday!
Spent the afternoon outside with Dad and stalked lots of squirrels. They're real busy this time of year and sometimes don't notice me.
Today is rainy but yesterday was super nice and neighborcat Tippy came over to visit. We chilled together in the yard, then Tippy got a little hissy so mom made him go home.
Then, best of all, a vole got into our house & I hunted him down & made him go dead! Voles are like field mice, but smaller with velvety fur and pointy noses. We rarely get any critters in the house so this was great. Mom even let me toss him around for awhile to enjoy my kill. Shaggy was jealous!
Dad had his check up today and all is healing well.

Hanging In There

Hi Everybody!
The title of this post is what mom says to everybody when they ask how she is doing!
She's doing ok, but is real tired what with running back & forth getting stuff for dad and helping him go to the bathroom and getting up at night to make sure he has all his pills on schedule.
Dad is barely weight bearing on his 6 Million Dollar Leg, he can stand still on it ok but moving around on the crutches is still very slow and painful.
Mom takes him for a post op follow up appointment with his doctor on Friday.

We are enjoying a very nice late summer/early fall!
The weather has been nice & warm and sunny and we get to go outside to sit on the porch with dad when he's up to it. Mom brings a book, and we chase bugs & stalk squirrels and pounce on falling leaves.

Dad's Home

Our Dad came home from the hospital today!
He is walking very, very, very slowly on his crutches.
We have a small bed set up in the tv room for him. It's easier for him to get into & out of than their big bed. He is wearing a big cast like brace on his leg to keep it straight for 2 weeks to help the stitches heal.
We snoopervised mom moving the furniture around and tested the bed to make sure it was comfy for him. Got it all furred up nice & good for his arrival!
He was so glad to get home after being in the hospital for 5 days that he didn't even want to go inside, but just wanted to sit on the porch in the fresh air!
He gets tired pretty easily, so we're going to be sure he becomes cat like and takes lots of naps.
Thanks everyone for all the purring and all the well wishes you sent!
It really means a lot to us!

Dad Update

Thanks everyone for sending purrs for our dad!
It really means a lot to us to know we have friends who care!
Mom's been really tired when she comes home at night after spending all day at the hospital with him so we've been busy purring to relax her and haven't had much time to blog.
Dad did fine with his surgery.
It took longer than the doctors expected because when they got in there they found out that the bottom part of his femur (thigh bone) was not good. It had turned soft because of the radiation he had in that area when he was being treated for the cancer.
So they removed about 2 inches of bone and attached a prosthetic bone in its place. It attaches to the remaining bone with a long rod that runs up through the inside of the bone, all the way to the top of the femur.
He has had pain that is not being controlled very well, they keep having to up his dose of oxycontin and are still giving morphine intravenously as he needs it. He also has been running a fever of 101 - 102. So he is going to stay longer than expected too, because they have to get the fever down and the pain under control. Maybe late Friday.
Thanks again everyone, and if you could keep purring for his pain and his fever to subside, we would be awfully grateful!!!!

Dad's Having Surgery

Our dad is having surgery today.

Six years ago he has cancer in the tissues of his left leg and the doctors had to keep cutting until they cleared it all out. They got it all after a 10 hour surgery.
Then he had to have reconstruction and had a bunch of metal parts put in there including a rod up into the bone of his femur.
That rod broke several months ago and he has had increasing pain since then from the thing shifting around in there.
Well, dad's getting fixed today.
Let's rephrase that..... we mean he's getting replacement parts put in today!
He will be in the hospital for 3-4 days then home from work on disability for 6 weeks.
If you could keep him in your thoughts and do some extra purring for him we would appreciate it!
Thanks friends!!!

Brave Zolie

Zolie came with in 2 feet of mom tonight!

Mom had a plate of cheesy potatos and Zolie smelled it and crept closer, closer, and closer very slowly until she was sitting in front of mom!
She was begging just like the best of us house cats do.......giving mom soulful, hungry, feed-me eyes.
Mom finished her potatoes but left lots of cheese behind and put the plate down for her. She licked it clean and then sat and licked her chops over & over! "Mmmmmm delicious", she said.
This is a real milestone in that Zolie is slowly starting to come closer and show trust.

Snuggling With My Brother

Sometimes Scooby & I like to cuddle up together.
Brings back memories of our kittenhood.
We were brothers from the same litter.
Been together always.
Always been together.
We almost got separated when we had to leave our original family after 4 years because the lady had to go to work overseas.
One person said they would take me but not Scooby, and he was days away from going to a shelter when the mom we have now stepped in and said we will both be coming to live with her, forever.
