Car accident

Thursday morning Emma and I dropped Austin off at preschool and were headed to the store. I was driving down Erskine street going about 45mph. The next thing I knew a car pulled out right in front of me.  I hit my brakes and tried to turn but there really wasn't time. I hit him hard. We crossed the street and ended up on the shoulder of the other side. All I remember is seeing him coming and then the impact- the noise, the jolt and the me half screaming, half sobbing the entire time. It seemed like it took forever for us to stop. At the same time it happened so fast.

I didn't realize until we stopped that the airbag deployed. I sat there crying smelling the smoke from the airbag.  It took me a minute to process what happened and realize Emma was in the car. I looked back at Emma and thank goodness she was completely fine (rear facing carseat for the win!!). She started crying a little when she saw me crying. There was a man walking his dog that saw the accident and called 911. He asked if we were ok and I said I was fine. I seemed uninjured. The man had to open my door for me. It was jammed shut. I immediately tried to call Jake. I tried 6 times with no answer.I finally sent him a text and he called me right back (his phone showed no missed calls.)

A fire truck arrived, an ambulance and two police cars as well. I told them I was fine and Emma was fine. Jake arrived shortly after and I'm sure it was scary to see. After a while of talking to the police and my adrenaline died down I realized my hand was hurting. I told the paramedics and they had me come in the ambulance to take my vitals. I declined a ride in the ambulance to the ER. My hand hurt but it didn't seem like enough to be broken. The other driver was uninjured and his car (honda Fit) didn't seem as smashed as mine.

When we were done talking to the police we loaded up all our belongings from the van and put it in Jake's car. We took Emma to a friend's house and asked her to pick Austin after preschool then headed to an urgent care to get my hand looked at. The first one we went to said they didn't see car accident victims and there was only one that did. We wented up at Minor Emergency Center where we waited an hour and a half to be seen.

The doctor ordered x-rays and sure enough I had a broken bone- the 5th metacarpal in my right hand. The doctor splinted my hand and told me a radiologist had to confirm the break. Now that it has been confirmed I'm waiting to get into an orthopedic surgeon to have it casted. Apparently there is only one place in Lubbock that will deal with car accidents. We are also waiting for our car insurance to get us a rental car and any information really.

Here you can see my awesome bruise and the seat belt burn near my neck. Despite all the challenges I have felt so blessed. I've been overwhelmed with the love and service we've been given. We received 5 meals in 4 days, cookies, and bread. So many people have watched my kids, given us rides, and called or texted to see how they can help. It has brought me to tears.  I feel Heavenly Father's loves as well through the service we received.

Nativity

Every year our stake puts on a beautiful nativity display. Part of it has a children's room where you can dress up. Austin refused to dress up and there was a line behind us so Jake and I didn't dress
up. I wish we would have though.

This was my favorite part this year. The primary children did service all year and wrote it on  cut out hands. A local artist put their hands together to form this beautiful nativity.

Black Friday

I usually like to go out shopping on black friday but this year it was ice Friday. We had freezing rain and cold temperatures. We did online shopping and put up our christmas decorations.

Frozen flowers

Thanksgiving

Every year we make a Thankful tree and write on leaves what we are thankful for. The kids are always excited for this tradition.

Once again... Emma won't stay still for pictures.

On Thanksgiving we got together with our good friends the Dahls and the Bradshaws. These two families have been so helpful to us the past little while. We are so blessed to call them friends.

We enjoyed delicious food, played some games and the kids had a blast playing.

Cotton Field

Every year I love to get family pictures in a cotton field. I think they are so pretty. This year Jake had class until almost 5:30. We went as soon as he was home. I set the camera up on a stack of boxes and set the timer but the sun was quickly setting so they ended up pretty dark. I had to lighten them a lot.
Emma would not cooperate for pictures...
