really. 5 months already.
it has gone by so fast!! like super duper fast.
weird to think next month he will be 6 months old.
i've been thinking about something lately.
looking back at emi's pictures a majority of emi's baby pictures
are from our cell phone pictures.
then we got a nice camera and the quality is so much better.
well i have been following that same pattern
most of makai's baby pictures are from my cell phone.
i am trying to remember to take more pictures with my camera.
with that said...i've taken over 100 pictures with my camera in 24 hours.
these are just a few.

mr. makai loves baths and basically hates showers
if he takes a shower it is usually with eddie
and he acts stiff as a board and just plain unhappy
different story in the bathtub...he kicks and kicks
splashing water everywhere. he is way too big for the tub too.
so it makes it challenging to keep things dry.
i sometimes will wipe everything down and then later
sometimes even days later
will open the cabinet below and water will spill out.
seriously so much water gets splashed around.
makai is such a light sleeper.
he can sleep through the vacuum and any other weird loud noise
like the crinkle of a chip bag or dropping a sturdy plastic bowl from a top shelf
but the second he hears emi, he wakes right up
poor emi is silenced when makai is sleeping in the swing
he is very specific in how he likes to sleep
one he must be swaddled. must!
if not swaddled he will wake up within 10-15 minutes.
unless he is being held, then he will sleep.
so the sleeping routine is, using a swaddle me that velcros
he sometimes breaks out of it but can't go back to sleep until re-swaddled.
he also loves that blue blanket and if being held will immediately close his eyes
he also can't sleep without a binkie.
makai is a watcher. he loves to watch emi.
which is nice since she likes to run circles around him. literally.
if he is nursing emi has to be out of the room
or he tries with all his might to bend to see her.
he also thinks she is hilarious when she says boooooooo! long and deep.
emi loves playing peek-a-boo with him.
makai can roll both front to back and back to front
he is hit and miss with tummy time.
sometimes he doesn't make a peep
looks around and plays with whatever toys are within reach
but every once in a while he fusses right away
and will just lay his head down like he is refusing.
other times he rolls back and forth
and just recently in the last week or so he has been scooting around
he will move like 180 degrees if he wants a different view.
for the past month he has really been into that teal teether.
i actually bought a second one in case that one was misplaced
he can hold it with both hands and goes to town.
he also enjoys sweatshirt knots, like the end of the string of a hoodie.
makai is also addicted to tv and cell phones. he reaches for my phone constantly.
makai is generally such a happy baby
and smiles at whoever is paying attention to him.
in the last week he has gotten to be a mamas boy
he will cry for no reason if i leave the room
i thought it was because he was teething and didn't feel good
but the last two nights i've had some errands to run and he's been home with eddie
the second he hears me he starts crying and gets all happy when he sees me
if i go out of view he starts crying again
and it's a super cry, almost like he is hurting.
eddie has to stand in the same room with me while i finished a project
just so he would stop crying...separation anxiety already?!?
poor makai. emi is starting to "do mean things" to him.
this happened while i was in the shower.
he is generally very happy and usually laughing while in the jumperoo
well when i heard him 'yelling' his warning before his cry
i knew something was up. and of course i had to get a picture first.
makai's hair. will only go straight up.
i have tried numerous times to comb it over and it won't stay.
it will barely go into a foe-hawk.
unless we go to church or somewhere "special" i usually don't do it.
he has a bad cow-lick on the back and his hair goes one direction
but the front hairs go the opposite direction.
so i think that is why it just goes straight up.
i'm wondering what it would look like if i had never cut it.
makai is such a big boy. he wears 6-9 months clothes
and he is almost too big for them.
at his 4 month appt he was 16 pounds 13 ounces
so i am sure he is at least 17 pounds by now.
he is wearing size 3 diapers.
he feels so heavy in his car seat, even eddie complains.
makai doesn't suck his thumb but he chews on the tip
it is usually a last resort cause he has nothing else to chew on.
we haven't started him on solids yet and probably won't until he is 6 months
he has been teething so he has been a horrible nurser the past week
having crying fits every 30-60 seconds. so annoying.
emi never bit me but i have a feeling he is going to.
as he is already biting me with is gums.
i flicked his cheek as i heard and read that is what your suppose to do
he cried and emi came and yelled at me:
mooommmmmmyyyyyy!!! (in her long deep voice) be nice to my brother!
i explained he bit me, she said it doesn't matter you don't hit
shocker she does listen to what i say.
we use to have a biter in nursery and she would hit in when he tried to bit her
so i had explained you don't hit, just walk away.
i finally got a shot of his new tooth he sprouting yesterday.
his chin is a little red from all of the drool.
but other than that he has been a perfect baby.
he fussed a little two nights ago and i gave him some medicine
why do my babies have to get teeth so soon.
emi also got her two bottom teeth at 5 months old.
a close up. for the grandparents.
this is makai's pre-cry face.
he yells as a warning he isn't happy about something.
usually he is sleepy.
9 times out of 10 if i give him a binkie
and wrap him in his blue blanket he will go to sleep.
sometimes i say ut-ut-ut...and he will stop.
weird that he totally understands.
our daily routine is usually the same daily.
sometimes he wakes in the middle of the night
between 2-3:30am...and will just nurse from one side
which is super annoying. i should pump the other side but i am too sleepy
i am hoping he will cut out that feeding soon
as i'd like to sleep for than 3 hour chunks of time.
every once in a while he will sleep until 5ish.
if he wakes up around 2-3:30am, i will put him back in his crib
where he will wake up again around 6:30am
if it's the fluke feeding at 5ish. i will put him in the swing to go back to sleep.
if he feeds at 6:30 he will go back to sleep for an hour then take a nap by 9am
usually sleeping until his next feeding.
if he goes into the swing and isn't disturbed by emi, he has slept as late at 9:30am.
we basically have two different type of schedules.
both schedules he eats every 4 hours.
he will eat around noon
stay awake for a little bit. or take a nap. i never know.
and it's so annoying cause emi was a eat, sleep, play baby
he will also eat around 4:30 pm, staying awake for little bit
then will take a nap from 5-7, usually.
i then try to wait to feed him at 9pm
then he goes straight to bed, without a peep.
every once in a while he isn't ready. he never cries
he just talks, yells...says, i'm not ready for bed.
we will put his binkie back in and eventually he falls asleep.
i should go to bed by 10pm but i have yet to do that.
some nights are bad where he wants his binkie re-inserted.
i am not brave enough to make him cry it out, in fear he will wake emi up
so i replace his binkie . some nights it's often, other nights it's not at all.
he is so inconsistent, opposite of emi.
i love this picture.
he puts his legs together to scoot.
he is always clothed so you never really see how rollie pollie he is.
he still doesn't have thunder thighs like emi did
but he is a chunk. one solid boy. line backer :)
he will only grab his toes if he is barefoot
which i think is super weird.
every once in a while he will grab them, but only to pull his sock off.
either he isn't very flexible or his tummy is too big
but he can't put his feet to his mouth.
makai is almost sitting up on his own.
he will sit up for a long time but if surprised by something
he will lean back real quick. so i put the boppy around him
he doesn't use it all for support, but a cushion to leave back into.
i can't believe he is growing so fast.
emi sat up before 6 months so i won't be surprised if he does too.
a few days ago i felt a little sharp thing in his mouth.
he wouldn't let me get a good picture of it.
i thought it would be a few days. nope...it popped through a few days later.
so he rolled off the couch.
he was in the far corner, with a pillow in front of him.
i had just placed him there and stood up.
i was re-doing my messy bun as i turned around to watch him
in what felt like slow motion his do a somersault off the couch.
i was just out of reach. he cried. i think more shocked than anything.
i checked him over, he was fine.
but the next day i noticed a scratch on his hand. no idea where or how it happened
so i am blaming it on the couch fall.
phew! i'm sure i could go on.
he melts our hearts.
emi cried bad every time i tease her that i'm gonna give him away.
we are getting use to him crying constantly in the car.
i feel like the last few months have been a blur
but i wouldn't want it any other way.
