On Sunday, May 16th, we went to a nature park only 15 minutes from our house called Corbett's Glen. It was very beautiful!

13.1 miles, 3.1 miles, 1 mile

On Saturday, May 15th, we ran a lot of miles in our family. I decided to run my own half marathon because I had not been able to do the one that I had trained for on May 1st and it is really hard to find race on Saturdays around here. It was a little bit harder to motivate myself to run 13.1 miles all by myself, but I am so glad that I did it. My goal had been to do it in 2:10 and I came in at 2:09.51. I felt great about my time and was just so happy that I finished. I had planned my route to end up at Cameron's preschool where I met up with Eric and the kids to do a Run for Fun. Eric ran the 5k and came in with a time of 22:56 and I ran/walked a mile loop with the kids. Annie and Cameron did a great job and ran most of the mile and finished under 14 minutes. We had a great morning.

Cincinnati, Ohio

After Eric's race we head to Cincinnati which was just 2 hours away. Our first stop was to see Eric's brother Mike and his family who had just arrived in Cincinnati Tuesday for a summer internship. Our kids loved playing with the cousins and we enjoyed visiting and meeting their new baby, Amelia.

Next, we headed to the Stewarts house, which happened to be just 10 minutes away. The Stewarts were some of our best friends in Rochester and moved last summer. We loved getting to see their house and catching up on everything. Jason grilled steaks for dinner, which was such a treat. We had a great time!!!

Indianapolis Half Marathon

Eric and his sister Amy ran the Indianapolis half marathon on Saturday, May 8th. This is the largest half marathon in the country with 35,000 runners. It was amazing to see the continual flow of runners. Eric ran in a time of 1:56 which his goal was to run it in under 2 hours. We are so proud of Eric!!! Way to go.

Trip to Bloomington, Indiana

On Thursday we took off at 6:00am for Bloomington, Indiana to see Eric's sister Amy and her family. We survived the 10 1/2 hour drive and got there around 4:30pm. We had fun playing with cousins, visiting, and eating a yummy Cafe Rio type dinner. The next day we went to a fun park and enjoyed just hanging out. In the late afternoon we took off to Indianapolis to pick up the race packets for Eric and Amy who both were running the 1/2 marathon on Saturday morning. We got to stay in a hotel which the kids always think it super fun.

Grand Island 1/2 Marathon almost

In February I decided to start training for a 1/2 marathon on May 1st. Eric was starting his training for a half marathon in Indianapolis and a friend encouraged me to do it with her. I was willing to start the training, but wasn't ready to committ to the actual race. I had never run more than a 5k and was a little nervous because I thought that I was not a runner. I hadn't realized how much I would enjoy pushing myself a little bit further each week. It was hard, but it felt so good. I loved the challenge and it was a great way to make it through the end of winter. I was injury free and enjoyed running my Saturday runs with my friends Emily and Rebe. I felt very prepared with my longest run being 11 miles and ready to run until Friday the day before my race. Eric woke up Friday morning with the stomach flu and I knew that would be horrible to get the night before a big race. The rest of the day I didn't feel great, but I just thought it was nerves. It wasn't until I went to bed that night that I knew I had the stomach bug too. I was up most of the night and had nothing left in me, but for some reason I still felt like I would be okay to run. I started the race, but I only made it to mile 4 and had to stop. I had no energy and my head was spinning. I was so sad because I had been looking forward to running the race, but after a hot shower and a good night rest I felt a lot better. I hope to run a 1/2 marathon in the fall.
