March 1-
We knew that we were eventually going to have to take away Kingston's binky, but we hadn't really given it too much thought. Nana and Pappa got us a book on saying goodbye, but Kingston had no desire to get rid of his beloved binky. He didn't use it all that much, mainly naps, bedtime, and the car. In fact, at daycare he didn't use it at all. Suzanne had him put it up when he gets there in the morning and then he gets it back when I come pick him up.
Well, we had a busy Saturday and ended up organizing the garage and watching a movie in the evening. When bedtime neared I started gathering up Kingston's binky and kekie (blue and orange blanket), but I couldn't find his binky anywhere. Kingston helped me look too, but we couldn't find it anywhere. Even Jonathan couldn't find it.
Eventually, we just had to go to bed without it. I wasn't sure how Kingston would do without it, but he surprised me and only asked for it once and I reminded him that we lost it and could look again in the morning. He seemed fine with that answer and after a few stories fell right asleep.
Of course, Jonathan just couldn't leave it lost, so he searched high and low and eventually found it on the windowsill. He wanted to put it in his crib but we decided to just see how the night went without it and cross that bridge in the morning.
At one time, he probably had 5 pacifiers in his crib but eventually he chewed through them all and we were left with only one. Which, was actually one of Brylee or Zayden's that got passed down to us because once Kingston turned 2 I couldn't really justify buying more pacifiers.
We made it through the night without a peep and Kingston was all smiles in the morning with no word about the missing binky. Not until nap time did he ask about it and I reminded him that we lost it. Again, he was fine with it.
And, that was that! He sometimes asks about it, but it has never been too big of a deal. Funny, though, I think it was harder for Jonathan and I because it means our little boy isn't a baby anymore. And, we are pretty lucky that it just kind of happened because we didn't have to come up with an elaborate story or anything like that.
Just more proof on the resilience of kids!
