The summer flew by. Before we knew it, August came. And with it.... Dun Dun Duun.... MIDDLE SCHOOL.
We started with back to school parent nights and so forth. I still couldn't sit on the benches with them, but I did manage to get this shot.
There was a day where the students could go walk their schedule. Rebekah was so on edge that there were no pictures taken that day. Have to know when hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em my friends.
Finally it was the night before interview time:
I informed Rebekah way before the day school began I would be wanting a picture of her first day of school. Apparently I did not take my own advice and I truly should have folded 'em, but here's the Bee totally annoyed and yet humoring me.
Ironically she turned into little miss sunshine right after she left the car. Look at her being all friendly like to her band teacher. Total 0 - 60 change.
After school I tried once more to get a first day of school shot.
She still wasn't playing along.
But the next day she said she was willing. Although not much of a smile, but whatever.
The after settling in interview:
Several days later the parents got to go in and meet the teachers. Don was there and so I was able to stand back, let him take the brunt of the emotions while I clicked picture after picture.
Even got one of her opening said locker.
Sure enough, a few days after school started she got the a few days after school starts virus. It was rough but just blue popsicle rough.
Eventually 6th grade band registration started. Rebekah (and Don, and AT&T - but that's another story) talked me into doing another year of beginning band saxophone. So Rebekah and I volunteered for registration night. Good thing too because apparently the Bee's private teacher left his horn at school and Rebekah was there to save the day.
And I found this really cool paper clip. Music is fun.
Family zoom was fun as usual. Every once in a while we'll get everyone together. When we do I inevitably take a screen shot.
The garden grew.
I put the tomato and basil together to make this:
And my favorite way to eat eggplant:
Somewhere - I think it was around the end of July - I realized I just couldn't manage the garden with my back. There were many tears. Considering it's currently September and I'm still struggling, I'm concerned my gardening days are over. Very sad.
Our back yard plant is doing well.
Rebekah is learning inventive ways to do things. I asked her to help by rolling up the rug so I could start the vacuum, and I find the following:
She's very impressive.
Sunset on an evening walk:
A trip to the park with the fam.
The Bee found this log in the creek and had to prove herself.
The views around our house:
Think I was going for the full moon. Looks rather small though.
A little rainbow:
A bigger rainbow:
Sunset glow:
Me showing my brother that my Utah shirt sneezes when I look in the mirror.
Don seeing how flexible Rebekah truly is.
In honor of the Bee I bought a new Bee shirt. I've never done black before and was concerned it made my grey more prevalent. So I texted this to my mom and asked her if the shirt makes me look old. She replied, "It's not the shirt." Sigh....
Rebekah and I went out for donuts.
Don't remember why. Sometimes we just do that I guess.
Oh, and Don and I had an anniversary. 14 years. Go us.
And finally Rebekah's taking expensive horn lessons.
Another camp the Bee attended was a musical theater. She seemed to enjoy it and yet struggled as well. I think most of the kids have done the camp previously and so the directors cast towards them. But she was a champ and did her best with what she was given. What follows are a bunch of pictures and videos I took from the event.
They did a take off of Inside Out.
Rebekah was the dad's emotion. Which was mostly anger. Although she smiles a bit too much for anger, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
She was able to make a few friends during the process.
And now the video portion of the process. When they uploaded to my computer and then to YouTube the order got all messy. If I find the time I'll go back and put them in order. Until then, enjoy!
