Heart month

February 2012 was the month my heart broke.  My friend & neighbor lost her little girl, who was Halle & Kierste's age.  She was backed over by the neighbors in their suburban, and lived on life support for 4 days.  Their experience wrenched me, and I could hardly think about anything else.  I know I spent most of the time lost in thought & tears.  I ached for them; I ached for the loss of such a sweet spirit; I ached because I had mine and she didn't.

Through them, I saw my children differently.  Elle always qualified for celestial glory, but she got to live here with her family for a little over 4 years.  It helps me to know that she was feisty.  That she threw tantrums and had timeouts daily.  That helps me.

During that week, my children could do no wrong.  I was lighter, even though my heart was heavy.  There would be some scuffle, and I would drift in, smiling; my children were all still on earth with me... what could be better?  Don't worry too much, children.  All will be fine.  We have each other.

Life went on, as it has to, but my parenting changed a little; permanently.  Here is Elle sitting next to Kierste in her Cinderella dress.  =)
