This was by far the sweetest day of my life. I say sweetest because marrying TJ was the best, well I'm gonna say I can have 2 best days of my life. Our sweet Mason came into our family last Thursday and he has changed our lives.
His story:
I had my weekly appointment last Wednesday and I was praying Dr McNeal would tell me to rush straight to the hospital because I was dilated to a 10 and ready to push. Unfortunately that was not the case. I was happy to hear that I was dilated to a 1 or 2 and 50% effaced. She told me she thought she would be seeing me that weekend and I was so excited (his due date was Feb 4th). I called TJ on my drive home and asked if he was ready to be a daddy but I don't think he really believed me. He just laughed if off a little and figured we had another 10 days. I went home and took the puppies for a walk, hoping I could move things along quickly. Well....... it worked!
I woke up Wednesday night around 1am with some contractions. They weren't the most painful things in the world but it was enough to keep me awake and they were timed out about 5-8 minutes apart. I stayed awake all night alternating between the bed, the bath and the couch. I called my Dr around 10:00am and she said to go ahead to the hospital and they would monitor my contractions and then decide from there what to do. After TJ showered and I finished packing, we grabbed everything we needed and headed over. Of course as soon as we got in the car, my contractions slowed way down and were about 10-12 minutes apart and I was sure they would be sending us home to labor for awhile.
12:00- We checked in at the front desk and got all situated in the triage area to be monitored and to our suprise, I was already at a 4. I was so happy and shocked because I thought she was going to tell me I was still at a 1. We watched Princess Bride for about an hour and that's when the contractions got really bad. The worst part was the back labor. I have never had cramps like that before and it was really intense. The nurse watched my contractions and decided I was in full labor ( Thank goodness!!) She walked in to have me fill out paperwork and I told her I wanted the drugs immediately! I wanted anything she could get her hands on! She brought the Anesthesiologist in with her and she walked me through the process of what to expect.
1:00pm- I walked down the hall to my labor and delivery room and sat down on the bed. As soon as I sat, she was working my back and had the epidural in within a few minutes. I was really worried about that part because everyone talks about how painful they are but it wasn't bad. It hurt more to get my regular IV in. The epidural took a few minuted to kick in and ahhhhh... life was goood again. I love drugs! The Dr came in a few minutes later to break my water and get things rolling. What a strange feeling! I couldn't even feel her do it but I felt the rush of warm water and knew things were progressing. My mom was first to arrive and then TJ's mom, my aunt Misty and sister in law Valerie. We had a party for sure!

2:30pm- I had alot of pressure in my "nether regions" and thought the epidural wasn't working. I got a little worried thinking I would have to do this naturally but it turned out that I was already at a 7 and the pressure was little Mason's head. I was rotated from side to side and we all just kept on chatting like it was no big deal. I enjoyed popsicles and water and Tj enjoyed his subway sandwich- punk!

3:30pm- Nurse Carolyn came in to exam and I was at a 9 1/2. Wow! I couldn't believe how fast this was progressing. I thought for sure once the epidural was in, I would be in for the long haul. I figured it would be the next day before he was born. She wanted me to wait awhile before I stared pushing so he could drop naturally. I was fine with that because I couldn't feel any of it. We just kept talking and laughing and before I knew it, Carolyn was back.

5:00pm- Time to push! I got set up to push and just see where things would take me. I did a few sets and couldn't really feel much. I pushed and pushed and pushed some more but wasn't really getting anywhere. I'm soooo grateful I had all of the support in the room because I couldn't do it all. Valerie was lucky enough to be at the foot of the bed playing tug-of-war with me and a sheet. This was supposed to help push where I needed to be pushing instead of popping all the blood vessels in my face (that was bound to happen sooner or later). Tj was behind me holding my neck and 1 leg ( they were dead, I couldn't move them 1 bit). I was so proud of him because he kept saying he was going to just wait in the hallway ( uh... I don't think so!) He even started watching it at the end. Misty and my mom were alternating sides and keeping my wash cloth cold for my head and tj's mom was there helping and encouraging all the way. The dr came in to see the progress and because I couldn't feel much, my pushes weren't very effective. She determined I needed the epidural turned down so I could feel where I was pushing.

The tug-of-war queen Valerie

6:15pm- The epidural is wearing off just a little and I can finally feel where I need to push. The nurses srtarted getting everything ready for baby Mason's arrival and I was making a lot of progress. yay for me! Right around 6:45 my 2nd nurse came into the room and I was so happy. Her name was Sarah and she is a bride at Stonebridge. We had been working together for a few months and I told her she better be there when I delivered. Lucky enough for me, she was! Ok Ok- back to pushing.....
7:00pm- The Dr prepared everything and was ready to "catch". 7:02pm- Baby Mason's head popped out and he was awfully purple. His cord was wrapped around his neck so instead of waiting for the next contraction to push the rest of him out, the Dr yanked him as fast as she could and flew over to the other side of the room to get oxygen to him. I had absolutely no idea what was going on and was just lying in the bed so happy that I was done. I heard his sweet cry but still had no idea anything had happened. He was just fine and he even kept grabbing for the Dr's stethascope as she was examining him. Next thing I know, I was getting sewn up because I had a really bad tear (because the dr had to yank him out) and Tj was over making sure everything was Ok.

Look at how purple his leg was.

We just did the 24 hour package in the hospital and I was actually ready to come home. I was so excited to be in our home and get our own schedule going.

Baby Mason was completely healthy and happy to be here. He was very swollen, as most babies are but so incredibly adorable. He has changed so much and we just can't get enough of him. I am definitely still learning all of this. TJ and I are both the babies in our family and we have never really been around little guys. TJ is an amazing father and I love watching him hold Mason. I love watching him give little kisses and making sure he is warm and cozy and comfy. I feel so blessed to have this sweet spirit in our home. I couldn't ask for a more precious baby boy and I can't wait to teach him about life.
