Welcome

I have started a blog because everybody else is doing it. (I'm going to jump off a bridge like everybody else after this.) I figure this is a great way for me to tell you things without actually talking to you. Feel free to leave comments so I don't always feel like I'm talking to myself.

Carnival

July 8 we went to a carnival at Wheeler Farm put on by our real estate agent's office. They are planning to make this an annual thing. There was a live band playing oldies while audience members hula hooped in front of them. Meanwhile we ate hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy. There were bounce houses and later a jousting tournament, where people dressed up in big foam suits and beat each other with foam sticks. It was all pretty fun.The girls got into the hula hooping, and this was Caelan's first time not being afraid of a bouncy house. Sara turned out to be a great hula-hooper.

End of School

School ended on July 1 for Deven, Jaelyn, and Sara. They were all at Hillside Elementary together. Happily, Deven passed 6th grade and will go on to junior high. He got about a 2.5 GPA. He's done worse.

Jaelyn finished 4th grade with about a 3.0 GPA. Sara finished Kindergarten with about a 3.9. She also had perfect attendance. Jaelyn and Deven both got awards for AR (Accelerated Reader). Deven also got an AM (Accelerated Math) award.

Most Kindergartens, it seems, have their own graduation ceremonies, but our school didn't do that. Even for Deven, his graduation ceremony was called a "promotion" because you only graduate from high school.

On the last day of school, we all attended Deven's promotion, which was as boring as any graduation with all the awards being handed out. Then there were refreshments, and the sixth graders were allowed to go home. By then it was about time for Kindergarten to start, so we left Sara and took Deven home.

The next school year we are on B track, so the first day of school will be July 26. Junior high and high school are not year-round schools, so Deven will start in August and get out in June like normal people.

Our Lives -- June 2011

Sorry it's been forever since I posted, but who's reading, anyway? Besides, I don't think June was very eventful.

Early in June a child was baptized who lived across from us in the condos. The family now lives in our stake, so we didn't have to travel at all to go. Some other past ward members also came, so it was a great mini reunion.

Corin got to start attending nursery just before turning 19 months because he kept getting sick before that. He is enjoying it and will go play, but he is not happy to be left alone there. I usually stay with him, but twice I have played the piano for Primary as a substitute, so he got left in nursery.

The kids had a number of birthday parties during the month, plus we had a ward luau. The free summer lunch program began at the park again. With the kids still in school, I could only bring Caelan and Sara, who had school after lunch. The last day of school was July 1.
