Tot School lately
I feel strange calling this Tot School. I only do because that is what the blog I read calls it.You should check it out. It has lots of great ideas. We really don't have a set time to do this or 'curriculum.' I just do what I think M would like. Sometimes I am right and sometimes it is an activity that just will not do.
Here are some from the last few weeks that were successful at the time:
Transferring kidney beans from her tub to a mixing bowl. I let her use measuring spoons and cups and a plastic drinking cup. I have seen this done with lots of items from rice, beans, corn, cotton balls, oatmeal, Cheerios etc.
Painting. This ended up being a HUGE mess, but lots of fun. I think this week we will do some apple printing.
I am not sure what emotion this is, but trust she really enjoyed using these stacking pegs.
Another time with the sensory tub. This time I added some magnetic letters and let her use an old lunch meat container. I save all of the ones I buy for storing crayons, magnets, and the like. I got the magnets from Target's dollar section just fyi.
Helping Daddy with her gears toy. It was so cute she kept showing and pointing at the instructions.
This activity is one of MY favorites, because it is one of M's favorites. When I am on my last straw of patience and still need to get dishes done I will pull this out. She loves spooning these little poms from a mixing bowl to an old oatmeal container. Guaranteed 30 minutes of solo play at least for now ;)
We had tried this about a month ago and she really didn't get it and just used her hand. I didn't realize how much balance is truly involved in order to do this. I was impressed that all of a sudden she could do it.
Magnets in a muffin tin. I got this idea from someone, but I can't remember who. I am sorry! The person gave a great idea of spelling out your child's name, but I didn't have enough letters.
I had bought her these landmark cards. Again, from the Target dollar section-love it!. She had so much taking these out of the tissue box and looking at them.
Her magnet doll set that she got for Christmas. Thanks Grandma R!
Stickers. I am going to admit we have only done this once even though she liked it. She also did a great job at only sticking them on the paper. I guess I am just a little scared by the stories of sticking them other places. Maybe we should do this again and just make sure we have some Goo Gone on hand.
This activity was miserable! I got this idea from Special Buddies at church. I drew a snowman on paper and wanted her to dip the cotton balls into the glue and them put them on the snowman. She hated it and threw the biggest fit and left. Maybe we will try again this week.
After her fit we did puzzles. She has improved so much.
She has my cooking skills ;)
Of course you can cook an egg and hot dog together!
