December in CT

I can hardly believe it, I'm caught up on the blog after 7 months :) Just 2 days before we fly to Arizona and Utah for the next month. AKA I'm about to get way behind again but it feels good to be a little more caught up than I have been!

With Thanksgiving so late and us flying to Arizona so early, we didn't have much time in Connecticut for Christmas festivities honestly. To name a few holiday events: We had a ward Christmas party, made a gingerbread house, had an elf named Frisbee come visit our house to keep an eye on the kids and set up some of our Christmas decor.

It's officially too cold to be outside so our kid outings have turned into strictly libraries. One day I switched it up and went to Petsmart with the kids, it's just down the street and they are in heaven there!

I also had a parent -teacher conference with Jackson's preschool teacher. It was great to meet with her and see the progress that he's making. He doesn't bring a ton of work home, just special projects sometimes and the occasional worksheet. But she had tons to show me, I'll get it at the end of the year in a binder to show his progress. With only 8 kids in the class she really does know each kid very well and understands and loves Jackson. I was proud to hear he is a very obedient student and will always try or work on whatever she asks him to do.

The biggest event actually happened today - the first snowfall! (can you believe I'm blogging about something that happened today) The kids woke up to just frost on the grass but it started snowing around 8:30 and so by 10:30 we were able to go outside and have fun in our winter wonderland! Both kids put on their snow outfits without a complaint - shocking especially for Abbie, and then had lots of fun outside. It was a blast and seriously no tears (once again shocking for Abbie) She was just in awe of it all :)

Jackson and Tyler went up to a BYU/Umass BBall game!
Our gingerbread house, I did the icing and Jackson did the candy!
Jackson and Abbie did some Christmas shopping for Tony the dog at Petsmart

We've been enjoying our fireplace finally!
They're still best buddies
They love reading books with Daddy before bed
Jackson's school picture!
Abbie Mommy Date at Panera. You know she was loving the mac&cheese
Got to Jackson's preschool Monday and it was empty, apparently avon schools were on 2 hour delay due to ice?
He was devastated, 2 hour delay means no preschool. I felt so bad for him!

Ready to head outside (minus the hats and mittens)
"SNOW!"
What happened to our grassy backyard?
Notice Abbie's hand is always out, trying to catch snowflakes!

J headed right out but A needed a little help from me to take the first step.
It was a great couple weeks, now off to Arizona!

Thanksgiving

We just finished celebrating our 7th Thanksgiving together and our 7th different location to spend the holiday. We now have London, Arizona, Carribbean Cruise, New York City, Jamaica, Florida & Connecticut. This was our 2nd thanksgiving in a row that we've spent at home.

This year we invited our friends, the Carters, to come up from Philadelphia to spend the weekend together. Jackson had so much fun with Maelie and Griffin when we visited them in August and they picked up right where they left off. This time Abbie was able to interact with Reece much more and it was fun to hear them giggling together too.

On Thanksgiving morning Tyler and Rock braved the cold for our ward's turkey bowl football game. It was seriously freezing, like 30 degrees literally. But they claimed to have had fun! Courtney and I took the older kids to the new movie, Frozen. I hadn't been too intrigued or impressed with the previews but honestly loved it! The music was incredible and it had some great one liners and a powerful message. Jackson liked it too but on a whole other level I think :)

Waiting for the movie to start!
That afternoon we got together with the Giffords and Rawcliffes for a Thanksgiving dinner at our church building. We thought of hosting it here but it would have been a tight squeeze so we opted for the relief society room instead. We split the meal 4 ways so none of us had to do to much. Tyler and I did the Turkey & a pumpkin pie. Not too much time was needed (hence the ability to go to a movie) but everything turned out great! The kids had fun playing in the gym while the adults played some games and chatted after our dinner.

Friday we did some shopping, nothing too crazy and got some pizza for lunch and went bowling. That night we stayed in and watched Despicable Me 2 and ate our yummy leftovers.

The next day we took the troops to NYC for the day! It was a quick visit so we just hit the kid essential. We started at Rockefeller and saw the tree and ice skaters. We all enjoyed some yummy treats from Magnolia Bakery before we headed over to Times Square & the ToysRUs store. Jackson loved the huge Jurassic Park dinosaur and got to ride the Ferris Wheel! We ate lunch at Tyler's favorite place - Carmines! He's tried to eat there for years but it's been too busy and wouldn't take reservations. But we got lucky and got to enjoy their yummy spaghetti & meatballs & chicken scarparello. From there we talked over to Macys and the kids got to meet Santa! Jackson had been there 3 years ago as an 8 month old so it was fun to go back again. This time around, he had quite the wonder in his eyes and was so intrigued with the magic train that transported us to the North Pole.

Riding the subway into the city!

We walked up from the subway stop and saw this! Welcome to Christmas in NYC!

Hard to capture a photo on a moving ferris wheel!

The kids were in the fire truck at the way top!
Jackson's favorite part!

Stroller buddies!

Jackson was not scared at all, mostly in awe - Abbie was terrified.

He told Santa he wanted a Dinosaur Train for Christmas :)

We headed back to the subway from there and rode to Queens where we had parked our cars. Even that was a fun adventure in the eyes of the kids :)

November Happenings

Here is November summed up in one big blog post! This month consisted of cold weather, Tyler's trips, Jackson's learning, Abbie's bravery and a great life!

Cold Weather:

We really got dang lucky with an amazing fall season! It got a bit cold the week before Halloween. But all of September, October and even the first week or two of November was great weather! Since it was so warm the leaves stayed their beautiful colors on the trees for weeks and weeks and it was so awesome! I don't think I will say the same of winter but I really am a huge fan of Fall! I know people who say "it's so nice to live in a place with 4 seasons" and I've just nodded in agreement but I didn't truly understand it until this year. Just in our 6 months we've watched our tree to go from bright pink blossoms, to green leaves, to orange, and now a bare tree with all our leaves raked up. Next stop - snow! It's been really fun to experience this all with Jackson and help him experience things he never would have in Florida or Arizona.

Jackson was so intrigued with Daddy's new tools
One of the first cold days of the year, I made them bundle up to play with hats and gloves for the first time
He loves wearing winter clothes!
Whereas she pulled this hat off over and over again. Lots of tears when we put on boots and jackets

He tried to golf this day, a little tricky with the freezing weather and abundance of leaves
Our new favorite thing is to get donuts and hot chocolate :)
It was 48 degrees but after a few days in the thirties, they were excited to play!
On the Saturday before Thanksgiving we had some friends over to watch the BYU football game and eat dinner together. We weren't expecting snow but as they were getting ready to leave that night we looked outside to see snow! Jackson was so excited and giddy as he ran around in it! Too bad it didn't last long and was gone by the morning.

The first and only snowfall of November lasted for about 5 minutes one Saturday night!

Tyler's Trips:

With Tyler's new job he was supposed to have much less travel. It definitly is less, but I'm not sure about much less, at least lately! He used to travel to 5 or 6 cities a month and now he probably travels once or twice a month. Since living here he's been to Boston several times, DC, NYC, Orlando, Syracuse, San Francisco, Alabama, and this month he went to Chicago, Wisconsin and Philadelphia.

A little sight-seeing between appointments in Chicago.
After his Chicago work meeting were done, he drove a couple hours north to Wisconsin! He met up with Blair (taking advantage of Mustache Mo-vember) and got to see the BYU Wisconsin Football game at Camp Randall. While the game was freezing and they did lose, he had fun at his first BYU game in 4 years.

Jackson's growth:

It has been really fun to see the changes in Jackson since he's started preschool. He now has such an increased excitement about the alphabet, letters, and writing. He sings the alphabet dozens of times a day and while I love it, I'm ready for a new song haha. He has an ABC train puzzle from the library that he and Abbie do together at least once a day. He used to know most of the letters but now he can identify them all of the time. He is learning to write letters too and in the past month has learned to write his name by himself (while copying it from somewhere else). He knows how to spell his name J-A-C-K-S-O-N is something I hear him muttering several times a day now. He is learning all of our names and how to spell them. He still gets really excited to go to preschool most days and it's fun to hear his stories about the day.

Abbie's bravery:

OK kinda funny, but she really has gotten much more "brave" While Jackson goes to preschool Abbie has play dates with her friend Alice. One day Alice will come here and one day Abbie will go to her house. At first this was a little tricky with stranger danger Abbie and she would scream every time I dropped her off. Over the past weeks she has gotten so much better and now she doesn't even make a fuss or whimper when we pull up to their house. She can now say "Alice" and has so much fun playing with her little friend.

A great life:

Things have been really great for us this fall. Jackson is growing up and turning into a very fun mature little boy. Abbie is getting more independent and her language (and hair) has been growing immensely. She and Jackson play so well together most of the time! The first thing she says every morning is "Jackson!" and he is so excited to see her! He would cuddle and hug and kiss her all day if she'd let him. He is way more excited to see her than me when we come get him at preschool.  They both sleep through the nights, Abbie takes a good nap every afternoon, we're not weaning or toilet training or in any weird phases so yeah life is really good right now! There were a lot of changes earlier this year but we've been in a good place this fall and we've all loved it!
