June 29, 2008

The week started off with me painting the living room. Do you like the "safe" way Tyler concocted for me to paint the walls above the stairwell. It was quite scary at first but I did get used to it.
We went to the Green Show at the Shakespearean festival. The kids have been looking forward to this years show since we went last year. They have two shows that they alternate every other day. We were able to see both shows this week.
Landry is very interested in the show. He soon decided that he had to go and sit by his friend who was at the show with us. Wherever she was he had to be there. Landry and his friend both ended up on her Mom's lap. Later that night we went to the music festival at the city park. Landry's friend wanted to hold his hands while they danced. He would have nothing to do with it! He screamed and was a little angry about the attempted hand holding.Last night we had a ward/neighborhood block party. The kids had a lot of fun. It really got exciting when they turned the fire hose on.
Kolby's favorite part was the dunking machine. He could not get enough of it. Here he is trying to dunk someone.
Kolby loved getting dunked and took his turn in the booth many times.
The kids spent most of the week outside playing in the water.
There was a lot of slipping...
and a lot of sliding.

This is our new yard! It was actually finished about a month ago. We all love it!! Who knew you could love rocks and grass so much? You might notice the dirt patch in front of the porch. We are going to put in a brick patio. Hopefully, we can get it done soon. One day we will plant flowers, bushes and trees. There is a drip system installed in the flower beds for when we are ready to fill in the details.
We have a lot of rock... sorry Bryan and Lydia. They were not impressed with all of the rock that people use in landscaping around here. Our yard is big enough that, although we prefer grass, we did not feel that we had to fill the yard with it. Everybody asks, "is rock cheaper than grass?". The answer is no. However, water is not cheap and we do live in a desert. Look at us being earth friendly. We had this great garden put in but it can't seem to grow anything. Maybe it is Tyler and I. We seem to have a black thumb. The two previous gardens we have attempted, our Lynden Basket and other various potted plants have all been failures. The hours and hours of TLC given to this garden have not yet paid off. Everything we have planted has died. We have our cherry tomatoes and zucchini remaining - and they don't look so good. If we loose the zucchini I will know that we have no hope. If you can't grow zucchini what can you grow?. You might also notice our nice new wall. Too bad this is the only side of the house that is fenced. It only got done because our neighbor really wanted to put it up and talked us in to it. No more red dirt!! Yeah!!!
This summer has been really fun. One of my favorite things about summer is between about 8:00 and 10:00 at night. It is hard to see in this picture but the kids are playing at the end of the culdesac with their friends. It is funny to see all of the neighbor kids creep out of their houses at about 8:00. It is definitely a great time to play and enjoy the outdoors.

Landry saw his first fireworks show last night. He did not know what was going on. Initially he was mesmerized and then he got a little scared. Landry had to move to Tyler's lap. Apparently, he feels safer with Tyler holding him than me holding him.
We went to the opening ceremonies of the Utah Summer Games. The blanket gave him even more security.
He had about the same reaction to the Collin Raye concert after the fireworks. We were about fifty feet from the stage. Hopefully, there is no permanent hearing damage. After everything was over we asked him how he liked the fireworks and the music (he had refused to acknowledge us while everything was going on). He let us know that he liked the fireworks and the music - although I think he was happy to be back in his comfort zone (in his car seat in the van).
Kolby and Addie spent a good part of the afternoon with a friend watching Summer Games soccer. Kolby was really anxious for the fireworks to begin. Luckily, we had friends to hang out with while waiting for the show. Kolby seems impressed with the fireworks.
Addie also enjoyed the show. She passed Level 1 in swimming lessons today! Addie has become a completely different person in the water. I would never think that two weeks of lessons can make such a difference. Especially since the other 3 sessions did not produce any results.

Landry loves his towel. He becomes very upset when you try to take it off. So I end up putting it back on after I get him dressed.
We had visitors this week! It was great to spend time with Grandma Susan, cousin Trayson, Aunt Mandy and Aunt Stacey. All of the kids loved the park. Landry decided to attempt the tunnel but turned around half way.
Addie enjoying some climbing.
Trayson really liked running on the spinning barrel.
Kolby is a big fan of the swings.
Cub Scout Day Camp. Me and six Cub Scouts in the dirt and wind with a lot of rocks. That is all I have to say about that.
Kolby's baseball season is finally over. We have had enough of two and a half hour games two times a week. Not to mention he needs to be there a hour early. Plus... practice once or twice a week for a hour and a half. They did take second place in the regular season but lost in the semi-finals in the playoffs.Having fun with Grandma.
Landry loved all the attention he got from his Aunts and Grandma. He learned to say Stacey and Mandy. Here he is with Aunt Stacey playing in the river at the park.
Aunt Mandy spent her time at the park in the shade. The kids eventually joined her.Look at that form! Addie beat all the boys at Kolby's birthday party.
Kolby turned 9 this week! His party got moved to the bowling alley after a nice thunderstorm rolled in. We were planning on going miniature golfing.
Kolby's birthday breakfast.
It was a good way to start the day.

It's that time of year... swimming lessons.
We are holding out hope that Addie will be able to pass of Level 1 this time around. She has been getting a lot of encouragement to try really hard to pass off the skills she needs to move to Level 2. This is her 4th time in Level 1 in two years. Her first go round was when she almost drowned after her first swim lesson. It has been a long road getting her readjusted to the water. She finally seems comfortable around the water and is really enjoying herself. Yesterday, she asked me if I could sign her up for swimming lessons - forever.
Kolby is looking forward to his birthday this week.
He loves swimming!
Landry was trying to sneak into the pool yesterday during lessons.
Hanging out... watching the fun.
