LOST...Spoilers from last season

The 2 main reasons I watch LOST

Well fans...Lost is back on Thursday night. If you're feeling Lost yourself tune in Wednesday night for a recap. My highlights from last season are:

  • Sawyer and Kate kissing...etc.
  • Charlie's message via sharpie "Not Pennys boat"
  • John Locke killing his father and carrying his body across the island to "the others."
  • Jack does surgery on Ben and almost kills him.
  • Jack brings Juliet back to the group.
  • Sun finds out she's pregnant but isn't sure who the father is...her husband or her lover
  • The episode with the flash fowards...everyone has been rescued and they return to their lives but they are miserable. They realize that they never should have left the island. Crazy stuff.
  • I also loved the episode with the flash backs of Ben. We learn he came to island with his father who was hired as a janitor. Ben encounters "the others" as a 12 year old boy and he helps them form a mutiny and kill everyone that works for the company.

Welp, I've been tagged by Shannon

Four weird things about me

1. When I walk on the sidewalk with every step I try to position my feet so that they intersect with an imaginary line at a 45 degree angle coming from the corner of each sidewalk section. Does that make sense to anyone?
2. In my closet, all my shirts MUST face left, as in the buttons must be facing left as you are looking into the closet. KILLS me when the dry cleaners put my clothes the "wrong" way on my hangers.
3. I can fall asleep in almost any setting. Examples: At the movies when Star Wars episode 4 was re-released back in 1997; In Russia during visits with members/investigators I often zonked out mid-conversation; As a teenager I was a math tutor, and several times fell straight asleep at the kitchen table teaching geometry; While driving a car I fell asleep & crashed through a stop sign; When I worked for SRS as a teenager I fell asleep while scanning bank statements; On the couch watching TV...need I say more?
4. My favorite weather is overcast, especially late afternoon when the sun is almost down

Four favorite TV shows:

1. Heroes
2. Lost
3. 30 Rock
4. Scrubs

Four places I'd love to go:

Code Blue

It finally happened. I had my first code blue today since returning back to work. My elderly patient was choking on her dinner and a nearby nurse jumped onto her bed and did the Heimlich maneuver. The patient was still choking pretty bad so we called a code blue and after a few minutes the food came up and she was ok. Today was so busy at work. I felt like a crazy person running around all day.

Please tell me! Do I look really young? Someone thought I was in high school and then someone else thought I was 21. When I look in the mirror I see...well I don't see a 21 year old. Matt was telling me people at his work usually think he is 24 or 25. (It could be worse...right Brooke?). Matt is so excited when he finds a gray hair. He wants to go prematurely white...he thinks it will make him look distinguished.

This blog entry is really random. I just needed to vent after work.

Lessons in Modesty

Jackie watched the girls for me a few days ago when I had to work. While Sabrina was napping at "Maga's" house Jackie took Halley and Natalie to Target. This is of course Natalie's most favorite shopping destination...mainly for the popcorn (she is a Riley after all). Jackie told me that while they were there Natalie lifted her shirt above her head and said, "Look, I'm Ariel!" Jackie said everyone was looking at her. (I am used to that). She told Natalie that Ariel is not modest. Natalie then pulled her shirt down but proceeded to pull her sleeves off her shoulders. She said, "Now I'm Sleeping Beauty but she's not modest." Jackie pulled her sleeves up and encouraged her to be Cinderella for the rest of the shopping trip. Thanks Jackie!!!

I forgot to tag someone

Mom...your turn!

Matt here:

The ladies get to have all the fun in the blogosphere, so I want to take a moment to join in. I have taken the liberty of acting as proxy for my spouse and "tagging" myself. Here are my responses:

Three names you go by:
1. Matt Riley (literally, most people call me by my full name, even to my face)
2. Riles
3. Dr. Riley

Two things you are wearing right now:

1. Mario Kart Double Dash
2. Rhyme, dart trouble cash

1. Poppycock
2. Red Vines

Two favorite pets you have had/have
1. Harlowe. Is the plural form of Harlowe "Harli?" Yes I think so.
2. A Gecko. No, he didn't have a name, and yes, he can still qualify as a favorite pet, namelessness notwithstanding.

Two things you did last night:
1. Drove to Palos Verdes Estates
2. Set the alarm clock for 5:45am. Why?? Because apparently I hate myself.

Two things you didn't do last night:

1. Irkutsk to Ulan Ude (Not the longest in terms of actual time spent, but it felt the longest due to -30 weather, windows down because the taxi was old & beaten up/Russian, etc., and it was from 11pm to 8am).
2. Irvine to Saddleback hospital (When Rachel went into labor w/ Natalie, it was 5pm on a weekday & rush hour traffic was unbearable, so Rachel's brother took her to the hospital & I got there as soon as I could).

Two favorite holidays:
1. Christmas
2. Ivan Kupala (Ivan "bathed," the day in Russia when you throw water balloons & buckets of water on anyone & everyone. No one is exempt, no matter how well dressed or important you THINK you are)

Two least favorite holidays:
1. Arbor day
2. Bedding Manufacturers' Appreciation Day Observed

Two favorite beverages:
1. Martinelli's
2. Whole Milk

Two words I've made up:
1. Kholodnyatina (Russian mixture of "chilly" and "tasty")
2. psychomological. Try saying it, the extra syllable just makes it sound better.

OK, that's my contribution to the internets for today.

What are you doing Sabrina?

Sickos

Natalie and I are both sick. She has some sort of stomach virus and I have a terrible cold with body aches. Luckily, Sabrina and Matt are still healthy. It's amazing to me at how often I get sick. I just got over a cold about 3 weeks ago and here I am again. I always seem to get sick when I am super stressed and I guess I have been these last couple weeks. I think I can count on my hands how many times Matt has been sick since we've been married. He usually never gets a cold but he will lose his voice and get a little cough.

The best was the night Natalie was born and Matt spent it in MY hospital bathroom throwing up. I asked the nurse if she could get him some gatorade and she informed me there was a vending machine on the first floor. Thanks a lot. He went home to recover and came back to the hospital to be with me the next night. I woke up in the morning and he was gone. A little while later he staggered into my room and said he had been in the ER with chest pain. He had severe inflammation in his esophagus from throwing up so much and to him it felt like chest pain.

Another memorable sick moment for me was when I passed out in front of my nursing class during our lab and hit my head on the counter top on the way down. I later found out that everyone was really excited to practice their nursing skills on me. They took my blood pressure and pulse and even wheeled me out to a car where someone drove me to the student health center.

Hopefully, we'll be better soon and I will post some pics that I downloaded from my cell phone.

Little Company of Mary

I started my hospital orientation this week. I shipped Matt and the girls off to Orange County to float between JoAnne, Rhonda, and Shannon. I got to see the girls Tuesday night and Matt will be bringing them home tomorrow night. I hope they haven't been missing me too bad. I have had fun going out to lunch with co-workers and then shopping on the way home. I always feel like I'm forgetting something. I check my purse like 12 times an hour and then I realize that I'm kidless.

Anyway...I wanted to let you all know, since I have been bugged about this several times, what "little company of Mary" means. It's a reference to the “little company” of faithful followers who stayed with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, at the foot of the Cross throughout his suffering and death. Yes...it's a catholic hospital. I've been looking for the scripture reference...help Dad!

Back to Work

I decided to get a job out here in Redondo Beach. I will be working at The Little Company of Mary Hospital. Yes...that is a weird name for a hospital and no it isn't "little." I will be working 3 times a month on the orthopedic surgical floor. My orientation starts next week. I am so excited to get back into nursing. Unfortunately, I don't get to wear this awesome white nursing dress to work...I have to wear scrubs. Wish me luck and hope you're not my first patient!!!

I made this video in imovies on my new mac. I was just messing around trying to figure out how the program works. I thought it turned out pretty cute.
