We Have a Tooth!!

Monday, September 15, Simon sprouted his first tooth. We were so excited since Simon is almost 10 months old and had yet to cut a tooth. Right now it's just a little nub on the bottom, front, right side of his mouth. I wanted to wait to blog until I could get a good picture, but that may be months. I did try though. To prove that I did try, here are my attempts to get a good picture.

This is the inside of Simon's mouth. I had the perfect shot, but at the last minute, Simon decided to seize the opportunity to finally eat the camera. He's been eying it for almost 10 months now.

Here, Simon decided to turn, scream and stick out his tongue right at the last minute. He was quite upset with me for asking him to sit still for 3 whole seconds.

I will keep trying, but I'm not counting on getting a good picture for a while. I see a white spot next to the first tooth, so I'm expecting another anytime. I can't wait until he has an upper tooth and can finally eat a cheerio. I gave him one once, but he gagged and spit it at me. I decided not to try that again for a while. I suppose we'll stick to sweet potatoes and applesauce for a while longer.

Look how Cute Simon is!

Do you see what I've just done here? I've lured you in with a cute picture of Simon with bed-head. At first glance, one would look at the picture and think I was going to tell a cute anecdote about Simon. Well; one would be wrong. I've lured you in with this picture so I can go off on an angry (but really not too angry) tirade.
I have a beef with sick kids. Actually, not necessarily sick kids; but parents of sick kids. Simon is recovering from his second cold in just three weeks. Getting sick is inevitable. We can't completely avoid it, but nothing angers me more (actually lots of things anger me more but I've said this for dramatic effect) than going to a social setting where parents have brought their sick children.

I work in the primary in church and have to bring Simon with me. Every week without fail, there are several children coughing, sneezing and complaining of being sick. The next week, there are more sick children there, and so on, and so on. It's a sick cycle.
Here is my plea to all parents out there: If you have a sick child; do not take that child out unless it is completely necessary. It is okay to miss a social event once in a while or to stay home from church for a week to let your child recover. Perhaps plan activities to do at home, rather than go shopping or to the park.
Look at it from this point of view. Think of how miserable it is for everyone involved when a child is sick. Pretty bad eh? Neither parent or child get any sleep, the child is cranky which in turn makes the parent cranky and the child usually passes it on to other members of the family. Before you know it; the whole family takes turns being sick for a month. Why would anyone wish that misery on another human being?
I hereby pledge to keep my sick child at home unless comp
letely necessary. I call upon all of you to do the same.
Thank you for listening to my tirade. Because you had to suffer through it, I'll leave you with another cute picture of Simon.

Red Wall

I spent the last three days painting a wall in my house. When we moved into our house two years ago, on the wall above the living room was written "Life is not measured by how many breathes you take but how many times life takes your breath away." It would be a cute saying had the previous owners written "breaths" and not "breathes." I'm ashamed to say I let it go for two years, but this week I finally decided to do something about it and paint the wall red. My logical husband asked "Why not use the spare wall paint in the garage and paint over it in the current wall color?" It was a fine idea but why would I paint a wall beige when I could paint it red?

If you don't like looking at my wall, here is a great video of Simon. While some babies make cute cooing noises, my baby growls. I still think it's pretty cute though.
