"It's gonna be a long time, girlfriend"...

(AKA you're not going to get to have sex for 4 months)that's what a girl at work said today when i told her i wasn't getting married until April. Haha. Little does she know, we've been officially engaged for the whole semester (4 months), and unofficially engaged since May (8 months). Haha, 4 months seems like nothing to me now!
And another question is why do people feel the need to tell you how something is going to be? I'm sure I'll experience it for myself and it will be different than it was for her.
But anyway, good times, apparently the next 4 months will be the most tormentingly long months of my life :)

This is what we need at work :)

"Did you just whammy?" ...

the best line of Saturday night.

after the wonderful, fun filled day we came back down to Provo and i did my laundry at Carolyn's. While waiting for it to wash and dry i decided to play some guitar hero, yes i said it guitar hero. I have changed my opinion of the game and now deem it, enjoyable and entertaining, whereas before i, how do i say this, hated it. (Wudan, i have gained an appreciation for the game and now i won't be all cranky when that's all anyone wants to do.)

So i was playing my second song and i whammied (love this whole made up word thing) and Carolyn asked "did you just whammy?" It was awesome.

Just wanted to throw it out there that i lake guitar hero now :)

Fabulous Surprise!

We went up to Sukie and Wudan's last weekend. I had my fitting for my little jacket for the wedding. It turned out great and the dresses for my wonderful bridesmaids are great too! I was cranky Friday night and caused some unnecessary drama, sorry wudan, but i think it got better on Saturday.

the day started off great with a wonderful snow storm! I love the snow and it was fun to drive around in it and look at the pretty whiteness! Yay!

It was such a fun day! We pick out and decorated a Christmas tree with them. i love decorating Christmas trees! I'm a dork :) We put our Christmas presents for our gift exchange under the tree and it looked all festive.

Then Carolyn brought out the surprise. A birthday cake! She organized a birthday party for me! It was so fun and i really didn't expect it until that day when she started telling me that she had a surprise and asking everyone if it was time to do the surprise yet. Then she gave me a birthday gift... a food dehydrator!!! I know that many people think this is dorky but i have been wanting one of these for the past year or so! I love dried fruit! I started drying fruit yesterday and it is wonderful!!! Sukie gave me an adorable scarf for my birthday and the cutest, perfect color orange shirt for the gift exchange! It was a great festive day! Thanks for the great surprise, it was awesome!!!

I love all my great friends and I'm glad we hang out so much! Thanks for making the weekend fun even if i wasn't!!!

Fancy Smancy

We had our ward Christmas party on Saturday. Everyone was supposed to dress up in "cocktail attire". So we got all dressed. I curled my hair, which i never do because it doesn't stay well. It was fun to get all dressed up. The dinner was great and it was a nice night out.

My fancy hair.

Sunday night we went over to Carolyn's to make lasagna. It was great. David really wanted to make it. He made his mom's recipe and followed it exactly! I suggested adding pepper to the sauce and he asked me if it said to in the recipe. haha! Usually he lets me add whatever i think would be good but not with this lasagna :) I even mentioned today that next time we make it we should add spinach, which he likes, and he gave me this "i don't know" look. Haha. It was cute! The lasagna was great though! After dinner we watched Muppet Christmas Carol (my favorite Christmas movie) and decorated Carolyn and Erik's Christmas tree. It was a fun night! I love Christmas time!

PS. 17 days until Christmas, 15 days until my birthday, 141 days until the wedding!!!

100th post!!!

Nemesis!!!!!!!!

Yay for 100 posts! I have a good one for you!

I fell yesterday....down the stairs....caught myself with my bad leg. No good. I missed a step and landed on the bad leg. I twisted my ankle and over extended my hip. It was scary. After that i got up and my hip hurt when i walked. I was so terrified that i had messed something up again. It freaked me out! So what did i do? I texted David saying i fell and hurt my hip. Then i just felt like i was 65 not almost 24 (18 days). No worries though, after a painful and scary 5 minutes my hip adjusted and it doesn't hurt anymore. Seriously though, I'm such an old woman!

So I have acquired a new hatred for ... TYPEWRITERS!!! They are my nemesis. They are ridiculous, obsolete machines that make a 5 minute computer job take an hour and a half! What is the use in that? I spent that much time typing addresses on little cards to send out Christmas gifts to all the retirees. I could have done that in 5 minutes on my computer using a simple mail merge!!! I ruined as many little cards as i did well. I misspelled education i don't know how many times. As much as i HATE typewriters i have discovered a new love for the computer and BACKSPACE. What a wonderful invention. I know know why i was born in the technological age, i would have killed myself if i had to work on a typewriter everyday! Counting blessings! :)

Christmas Time

So it's definitely Christmas time. (yes I'm one of those people who tries to steer clear of christmasy things until after thanksgiving)
Signs:
We put up Christmas decorations at work. Our tree is mostly up and about 3/4 of the lights work (a true Christmas miracle). We have been making snowflakes during boring times. We have little bulbs dangling from the cabinets. Good times.

I'm listening to Christmas music! Yay!

David and i have been trying to be diligent with the advent calendar. (we've only eaten 2 days late so far :)

I've started receiving gifts. One of the professors i work with gave the full time secretaries each a poinsettia, so sweet.

I've gone to the work Christmas luncheon. Good times. Me and my co-worker were just about the only ones our age, there were a couple other people in their 20's and other than that i think everyone had us beat by 20+ years :) Great people, good food, a nice break from the desk :)

It kind of snowed a few flakes this morning. I am one of those weird people that like the snow. I love it! I hate the cold and the way i see it, the snow is the only thing that makes enduring the cold worth it. I wish it would snow more, like it used to when i was a little kid. Good times. Hopefully the snow will pick up soon but won't be on the roads when we drive back to Denver for Christmas :)

So yes, Christmas time is here. I hope it will be a happy one for everyone! A great time to remember and cherish the things and people that are most important to us. Merry Christmas!

PS. 19 days until my birthday :)

PS. It's my birthday month....

22 Days until Emperor's Day (aka my birthday)
24 Days until Christmas!

A momentous occasion

(Brooke will appreciate this) I finished the book that i use for my to do list at work. Brooke started it before she left and i kept up the tradition. It's finally finished. I've started a new one. Good bye old book, you've served us well :)

Thanksgiving

Midnight walks in the snow = so fun :)

It was great! Lots of food, lots of fun. David and i napped a lot, ate a lot, and watched TV a lot. It was good. Just the break i needed. We hung out with David's good friend in and, believe it or not, i played Mortal Kombat and i beat David once. I know i should have documented it. And after dating for a year+ that was the first time i ever played games with David, other than boom blocks on the wii. Good times. It also snowed and we took a walk, thus the pictures. It was a good weekend.

Perilous Journey Home

This was the view as we entered the canyon, foreboding huh?

No worries, it cleared up a little bit, the first picture is actually mostly fog.

Fear not, it really was bad weather, this is the beginning of it.

Traffic starting to slow down, notice the increased snow on everywhere :)

Even more.

Pretty much stop and go here, see how you can't really see anything? Fun.

We made it through the tunnel, and look at the scary snow waiting for us.

At least it was pretty.

So, the Wizard pretty much summed up our drive home yesterday. It was scary. We almost got into a little fender bender on the way down the mountain but David save us from that! I figured a picture diary of the journey would be fun.

Machines with Attitude

Yup that's right! I called UPS today to check on a package. I wanted to let them know that i would be coming to pick it up. Well of course when i call the 800 number there is this voice automated machine. I pick the right selection and I'm told that they tried to deliver the package yesterday and they will try again today. So i tell the machine (i HATE talking to machines) that i want to talk to a representative. What does the machine do? It gets attitude with me! Tells me that they will transfer me if i want but that the information they gave is the most up to date information. So again i say REPRESENTATIVE and it tells me it's transferring me and then reminds me that the real person won't give me any more information. The real person helped me just fine. I didn't need more information, just wanted to make them aware that i was coming to get it.

Machines are taking over the world (OK not really but at least a lot of jobs that real people could do more effectively, in my opinion). Although, David did point out that it is amazing the progress that has been made. I concede this but assert that they are still the most annoying things ever!

Never again..........

A new picture for a new occurrence :(

Will i put my phone in my back pocket!

Yup, that's right folks, my new phone has taken a trip to the toilet. So sad! You'd think that this wouldn't happen to a person twice in a lifetime let alone twice in 6 months! But I'm the lucky, or stupid, one.

I often put my phone in my back pocket but I've been really careful to take it out or move it before i use the bathroom, considering a certain past mishap. Well this time i forgot about it completely and when i went to use the bathroom i heard "ker-plunk" and then thought "what.....oh noooooo!!!", then grabbed my phone and tried to dry it out. I got it as dry as i could, even used a blow dryer. I put it all back together and it turned on and everything was working fine except that it couldn't find my network. I was so mad, just ask David. He calmed me down, eventually, i don't know how he does it but he has a gift. He convinced me to let it dry out some more in front of his fan so i did.

We spent the rest of the night up in salt lake. We went to see this cathedral down town. It was awesome! I have to write a paper on Gothic architecture and had to see the cathedral for that. It was definitely worth the trip! Gorgeous stained glass and murals. I loved it! Then we walked around temple square and enjoyed the Christmas decorations. (There were no crowds because they don't turn the lights on until after thanksgiving but everything else was set up.) Then we saw the conference center. I also showed David this German store that's not too far from temple square. He enjoyed it.

Then we watched Goonies with the everyone else. It was pretty fun other than my PMS hormones which created more drama then needed. Gotta love being a girl :)

So, (you thought i was done with the phone story huh?) on Sunday i tried my phone again and it worked! Yay! It survived it's trip to the toilet! I swear I'll never send it there again! I'll never put it in my back pocket again and if I'm really smart I'll never bring it in there with me ever again!

Cute Crafts

At enrichment night for relief society the other night we made these oh so cute tile pictures. I've been trying to explain them to everyone and I've failed so i figured I'd post a picture. Cute huh?!

Only a little OCD some of the time :)

So I have some OCD tendencies which include:

Sorting any kind of colored candy (Skittles, M&Ms etc) into colors and then eating them in a specific order. (David thinks this is hilarious and has been known to buy me these treats so that he can mess up my piles when I'm trying to eat them in order.)

Another, which my co-worker alerted me to the other day, is that i always have at least 5 windows open in my browser and usually a sixth. These windows always house a certain site and must be in order or i find myself getting confused and having to rearrange them. The order is Gmail, facebook, byu, my blog, Pandora, and the sixth is where i site jump. I check my bank account there, ksl, people and whatever else. Yes i am ridiculous! i understand this. In my defence this is only at work. When I'm on the computer at home i usually only use one window. crazy i know.

So now that you all have something to tease me about share your OCD tendencies too! I know we all have some! Ok well enjoy laughing at my ridiculousness for a while.

Fed up!!!

I had to rewrite a paper today! I can't even express how pissed i am over the whole thing. The icing is that it's a group paper and the rest of my group thinks that my partner and i have done nothing. pretty much they have been sending emails and text messages all day to check up on us and make sure we're doing it. Thanks, I'm not such a huge fan of being babysat though. One of them got an especially rude response to her email and i frankly don't care! So last night and today have sucked pretty bad. I've been rewriting this thing all day at work and in a few minutes I'm going to have the professor look at it again and, I'm sure, tell me to rewrite it again. Fun huh?

So i get into work in the morning and i am, understandably, less than thrilled for the day ahead of me. I get all of my things out to get writing but first i check all of my emails and take care of a few things at work before i ignore work for the rest of the day. So we get an inspirational email everyday and the one today was perfect for my situation. Here's what it says....

"The energy you devote to being annoyed brings you nothing of value in return. So choose to quickly let go of your need to be annoyed.
The time and energy you put into being offended adds nothing positive to your life. So decide to quickly let go of your need to be offended.

Winning petty arguments will do nothing to enhance your relationships. So find a way to quickly let go of the need to prove that you're right.

There are many things that can hold you back. But they'll hold you back only as long as you continue to hold on to them.

Each day is filled with plenty of valid reasons to be angry, resentful, jealous, frustrated, offended and annoyed. All that negativity can stop you cold if you allow it to take up long-term residence in your life.

So make the choice to quickly let it go. And free yourself to soar above it all."

Awesome huh? I thought it was hilarious! Of course today i have still been so mad that at times i have been shaking with anger but if I'm mad but getting stuff done at the same time it negates it being a bad thing right? Anger is an emotion and i can't stop it from coming I'll just get everything done in spite of it. Sucky day!!!!!!!!!!

NC

I went into the bathroom to make a personal call today at work. There is a lounge area apart from the stall area. I walked into the lounge and had to just go into the stall area to make my call because some girl was praying in the lounge!? What the? Since when is the lounge of a public bathroom a private enough place to pray? I would say never! Crazy people!

it's been a while

It's been a while. November is apparently not that exciting of a month for me. Work is boring this month for sure! We have a measly 3 things on our to do list. Awesome.

Wedding plans are coming slowly. A couple weeks ago we got the bridesmaid dresses picked out and ordered and i ordered a jacket for my dress. I'm excited about that.

I'm enjoying fall...a lot! I love hot chocolate in the morning. I love fall rain and snow. David and i walked to school in the snow last week and i was giddy. I'm a dork what can i say. I love soup and I'm taking advantage of this perfect time of year to make it! Yay for fall!

Thanksgiving is coming! I'm so excited for a little break from work and school and a chance get out of Utah. that'll be a nice change of scenery. The best part about thanksgiving is that once that's over it's only 3 weeks until Christmas break, even better! yay.

Hopefully I'll have something more interesting to blog about this month but if not enjoy fall!

GROSS!

Before

After

I had a bad day at work last week and the next day David brought me these. Isn't he the greatest?! I love him.

What's worse than a Rent-a-cop?

The gatekeeper at BYU!

So to get into gate that leads to all of the coveted parking spots on campus you have to get through the gate. To get through the gate you have to have an A lot pass(which they only let faculty and staff have. i happen to be staff) or get a gatekeeper to have mercy on you (fat chance). Well this shouldn't be a problem for me right? I have an A lot pass. I've been driving up everyday for the past month and i stop at the gatekeeper's booth to show my pass and they let me in and i go park. It really shouldn't be a difficult process.

Yesterday was a different story! David and I always drive through campus on the way home because it's faster than going around and running into lights. This means that we have to pass through the gates. Usually we just stop, show the pass and go on our merry way. yesterday the gatekeeper was too busy chatting it up with some car that he didn't bother to look at our pass. So we approach the gate and wait. he just stares. So David backs up and asks if he's going to open the gate. The guy says he didn't see our pass. David points to it and the guy gets out of his booth, walks over to the car to inspect my pass. Then he looks at both of us and asks if we are faculty or staff. David points my way and says "she is". So the guy looks at me and asks if I'm getting dropped off at work. (What does it matter? I have the pass let me in!!!) I tell him no, we're driving through to go home and it shouldn't be an issue. He finally gives up and lets us in.

What the heck?! Yes i am staff, I'm 23 and staff. Are you jealous that i get good parking while you have to walk 15 minutes from the stadium? Or do you just think that I'm lying and borrowed my dad's car? Check the plates dude, read it MICHIGAN. I sure didn't borrow my dad's car from there. So hey, Rent-a-cop wannabe, give it up, don't bother me again!

Pet Peeve

So the Mormon bunch of people who read this will appreciate.......

My current biggest pet peeve is when Home and Visiting Teachers put off making appointments to visit until the last week of the month and then expect you to accommodate their schedules! Bugs me to death!!!

Rockin the Cane!

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday with Carebear to do some shopping. We were over by the pharmacy and, lo and behold, they had canes! And they were cheap $9.00! So yes i bought one! Now I'm rockin' the cane! It's nice to have something not so bulky!

We're all getting a kick out of the cane at work. We have a new secretary too! Taylor, Tay Tay for short. He's fun and he loves the cane!

Look I can even rock it booty style! Woot! I'm one hot broken old lady with a cane!

Absentee?

Or not!

So i registered to vote in Michigan so that my vote would count. (I don't typically vote the way that most Utahans do.) I got my registration mailed in time and everything. I never heard anything about it until yesterday. My mom got my voter registration but now it's too late. So she called the voting people in Michigan to see if i could still get an absentee ballot. Get this...i have to go in person to pick up my absentee ballot?! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of voting absentee? Ridiculous! So i either have to fly into Michigan to vote on Nov. 4th, miss more work to go turn in a registration form today to register in Utah, or just give up on voting this year. What would you do? Kudos to all of you who would miss more work to register and be responsible citizens. I, however, will not be missing any more work, seeing that i am already missing several hours this pay period. I guess i won't be responsible for any horrible outcomes that result from either candidate winning.

Eye Doctor Adventures

Can you read the line above the red?

I've needed to go to the eye doctor to get a check up so that i can get new contacts and so has David. Carolyn really likes her doctor so we decided to go there. He was great! He explained everything really well and it was fun.

At the end he dilated our eyes to take a picture of the inside, interesting huh? (By the way, you can tell that I'm a true blond and of Scandinavian descent by the inside of my eye.) Then he gave us some trial contacts to use for the week and see how we like them. I decided to try out a new brand.

At first i couldn't tell if they were good or not because when your eyes are dilated you can't really focus or see well anyway. As the dilation wore off i realized that the contacts were not working for me. While we were driving home stop signs were blurry and the leaves on the trees and i had a head ache. Not cool or good. I was confused because my prescription changed so i should have been able to see better not worse. So i switched back to my old contacts for the night and decided to call the doctor in the morning.

I went back in to see the doctor the next morning and it turns out that the problem was that the contacts didn't fit my eye right and so it was making my vision much worse in my left eye. He gave me a different brand of contacts to try and then checked how i saw with them and everything was great! So i think these will work out. Interesting that how a contact fits can change how well you see though!

I'm going all out and getting new glasses too since it has been 4 years. It'll be fun to have some new glasses. That's my fun for the week.

In other news, I'm still hobbling around with my one crutch. I think i look like tiny Tim "god bless us, every one!" Haha! I am starting to lose my limp so that is nice! I'm also walking more around the house and work without my crutch, although i get reprimanded a lot at work for it. I tried going up and down stairs without crutches for the first time this week. It tires me out pretty fast but it's OK. All of the tape is off of the scar and I'm thoroughly grossed out by it. I'm finding it more disturbing than i thought i would to have a scar on my leg. I feel gross and disgusting. It's lumpy and ugly. (As you can see I'm still trying to deal with it :)

So that's life. My scar is ugly and i hate it and i can see!

Happy Halloween!

It's Halloween time again! That means new decorations at work! Rebecca and I never though that we would like doing decorations (neither of us are too artsy) but we love it. It's so nice to have a break from spreadsheets (or surfing the Internet). This month has been pretty busy so it was nice to get creative and put something fun up. We decided that all of the secretaries would become a character and go up on the cabinet. We had a blast brainstorming who should be who. For example, I'm Frankenstein because i walk with a limp and have scars :) Good times! So Happy Halloween to all who visit Teacher Ed! Wahoo!

Conference Breakfast

General conference time means awesome breakfast time!

Every Conference David's roommate orchestrates an amazing breakfast for Sunday morning before conference starts. It's always fantastic and you get so full that you don't eat for the rest of the day. It was wonderful.

I, however, am blogging about my fantastic Saturday morning conference breakfast with David. He came over and we made waffles and used the plum jam that is more like syrup for syrup. David bought strawberries and blackberries to go on top and it was so good! I love him!

The Grossness........

Finally i can blog!

This week i came back to school and work. It has been so busy and hectic all week for me. Between things being wrong at work and me not being in the office to help fix them a lot of things piled up. I've been working non-stop (not very common) all week at work to get caught up and get back on track. I think we're finally almost there.

School has been a beast too! I missed a test while i was getting better so i had to make that up. I also missed an assignment for my huge group paper. Not a great week to miss but I'm almost caught up with that too. I took the test yesterday and I'll get the assignment done tonight or tomorrow, hopefully. This weekend will be pretty busy with working on the big paper but after that's done i think I'll be all caught up and back to normal.

In other news I'm doing great! My leg is healing well. The whole process wasn't painful at all for me. They prescribed 40 pain pills for me and i only took 4. Seems that the surgery is supposed to be much more painful than it was for me. I'm not complaining :) I figured out the showering thing pretty well. Glad press and seal does wonders, it sticks right to your skin so you don't have to tape it at all!

I'm getting pretty good on crutches and i am only using one now. I actually want to get a cane (much cooler than a crutch). I get pretty tired after a whole day of doing my normal activities but i think I'm getting used to it. For a couple of days my left hip was hurting pretty badly because of all of the work it was doing. I was terrified that i would have to get surgery on that hip next (i actually decided that if i had to i would do it in January). Thankfully, it has stopped hurting. I have started putting more weight on my right leg and that helped. I actually can hobble around my apartment unaided by crutches! Pretty awesome. So I'm getting there.

I had my follow up appointment with the doctor yesterday. He took my bandage off and i got to see the grossness for the first time. It's pretty gross. He said that the surgery was very successful from his point of view. It seems successful to me as far as i can tell. I'm not pain free yet but that's to be expected. There is a big section of my thigh that is still numb but he said that feeling should come back to that. I just have to stay on a crutch/cane for 6 weeks and then I'll be good to go. I can start up climbing and everything again this winter! Yay!

OK so i want to show all who want to see my scar, well it's just stitches with tape over them. So scroll down if you want to see it. If not just stop here. It's kind of gross so i won't be offended if you don't want to see it.

A little pain never hurt anyone!

It's over. I've been under the knife and survived. I actually think that I'm taking everything very well. I didn't end up staying the night in the hospital, I'm very glad about that! I'm just chilling here with Carebear and Alice enjoying my little "vacation" from school and work.

So here's how it went down...
5:00 am the alarm went off. i got up and took a shower (got all clean for the OR) and got ready/nervous.
5:40 am David came to get me and drove me up to the hospital. Carebear was going to do it but then poor Alice got sick and needed her mom.
6:30 am checked into the hospital after waiting in line behind a crotchety old man. then i got to get into my hot hospital gown (I'm lucky I'm so cute or else it would have been really ugly :) then the nurses asked me a bunch of questions and i signed some consent forms, got my IV and had a few more visits from my doctor and the anesthesiologist. I was so proud of myself, i was surprisingly calm and didn't cry even a little bit.
7:15 or 7:30 am surgery. Ahhh. I left David and went into the OR (it's a good thing that i couldn't see, no glasses, or else I'm sure i would have freaked out.) i got all situated on the bed and then before i knew it i was out. Good anesthesiologist!
9:00ish am i wake up in recovery and get taken up to my hospital room. Pretty short surgery, right?! i was still pretty doped up and kept falling asleep but didn't feel like i was breathing right so wanted to keep myself awake. I turned on the TV but i couldn't see anything so i went for the only voice i recognized, Rachel Ray haha. After about an hour of being there i started wondering where David was. the doctor was supposed to go find him after surgery and help him find me.
10:30ish am David showed up in my room. The doctor didn't recognize him in the waiting room so he didn't know that i was done. Eventually he figured it out.
From there i was still pretty tired but not in too much pain. I actually never got more pain meds at all. I was sore but it wasn't intense pain or anything like that. Sukie and Wudan came to visit me on their lunch breaks and that was fun. I think it was more fun for them to see me all doped up but I'm OK with being entertainment.
My doctor stopped by a little later to see how i was doing. He told me that i could go home whenever i felt like it. I have a follow up appointment with him next week. So the physical therapy guy came by to teach me how to use crutches right and then we were off.
It was ridiculously hot outside, not nice, especially since i was a little nauseous from the anesthesia. I made it down to Carebear's fine but my nausea got the better of me when i got a whiff of the lunch she had made earlier. Luckily for me i didn't eat too much of my lunch at the hospital so there wasn't much to come out (sorry to be graphic). David was so great and held my hair while i puked, my hero haha.
After that i was fine and i even ate some crackers later. David stayed with us and watched Iron Man and then he got everything ready for me to go to bed and then left. He was so great all day! He skipped work, class, and karate practice to stay with me and make sure i had everything! He's the best!
The rest of the night consisted of feeling bad for poor Alice and her fever, taking my first pain med and getting all situated for the night.
I slept pretty well and I'm doing well today. I'm a little bit more stiff and sore but that's to be expected. I'm very happy that i still don't really need the pain meds at all though! I would much rather not be on them. I'm doing OK.
So there's the update. I'm alive, I survived. I'll be back to my normal self pretty soon. Thanks for all of the concern!
