Updates on us

Since the accident, I've been getting free chiropractor adjustments, massages (at least 2 more!) and everything with DB is looking good. He rotates and stretches and rolls like normal, which is less than I want! I wish he was a little more active, but then again, maybe this indicates a calm baby. Things that have developed since the accident but I'm not sure how related they are, could just be pregnancy- hives that come and go on all my appendages and my belly (NOT fun, and I sometimes want to cut the affected body part off. Midwife thinks it's probably stress related), carpel tunnel (I think) in my right arm, increased swelling during times of high stress (like now, and related to the ct) but my bp is staying low, leg cramps, tenderness on one side of my back/ribs, and a few anxiety attacks or crazy heartburn or something painful in the chest/back. Most of the time I'm doing fine though, and still love being pregnant. I am totally not ready for this baby and I really hope he doesn't follow after his cousin Squeaker, and stays put until 40 weeks! But by looking at my belly (I'll update pictures when I find my camera cord), most people's jaws drop and their eyes get wide when I tell them how much longer I have. Getting lots of twins comments lately!

Also, Hyrum has gotten the flu this week (the real flu). He's quarantined to the basement and yells or plays music on his old phone (his new phone isn't charged so he can't just call me) when he needs something. I bring him meals, vitamins, change the humidifyer, and sleep in another room on our cruton (what Hyrum calls our one-person futon). He seems to be getting better today, but last night I'm pretty sure he thought he was dying. He hasn't been within 15 feet of Squeaker, and we've decided it's probably best for me to stay away from the little guy for another day or so to make sure I don't get sick too, and then pass it to him. I can't wait until I get to hold him again, I'm missing touching his soft little head!

Since several people have asked, the friend that was in the back seat of our car is home. In addition at a 5 inch fracture on her sternum, and 60% of her scapula broken, her clavicle seperated or something and she needs to have surgery. We last talked to them a week ago and they were getting a consult for that, so I don't know what ended up happening. I heard K talking and laughing in the background when Hyrum was on the phone with her husband, and her aunt flew out to help with their 4 kids, and they have a lot of family support around. It looks like things are going as well as they can right now. We also bought a new car, and it is basically the exact ford (bleh) version of our camry. Our neighbors probably wouldn't even notice a difference. But we are happy with it, and happy with the money that we were able to put into savings versus buying a nicer car.

Hopefully I'll be able to find the cord to my camera and can get some pictures up soon!

Squeaker

This little guy is one of the reasons I've been so busy lately. You probably have already heard this crazy story, but I figured I'd go ahead and retell it here.

Big sister Tessa is in LOVE with her little brother.
The whole fam
My sister and her family were moving across the country, and decided to stop here for a few days on the drive out. They stopped the night before at a hotel about 6 hours from here, and when she woke up the next morning, my sister discovered her water breaking 4 weeks early! They drove 100mph to get here, I called hospitals and a doula, and me, Kelli, my mom and my dad (who were out for Kelli's graduation) drove to meet them halfway and follow them to the hospital.

Little Squeaker (what we are calling him until a name is decided upon) arrived early the next morning and doesn't really look pre-term at all! He was 6lbs 4 oz, 19 in and has tons of dirty blond hair. He's had to go back to the hospital for tests every day because he's pretty jaundiced, but otherwise he's doing great. He's such a sweet little guy, and now I get extra house guests for a couple weeks! This has been good practice for how things are going to work out in (hopefully) 6-8 more weeks. Since all his stuff was in the moving truck, we've had to beg, borrow and steal everything this boy needs. We've also stocked up a little for DB and are letting his cousin borrow it for now. I don't think our baby will mind.

Maternity Shoot

Life has been pretty crazy around here lately, but I thought I would go ahead and post pictures of the maternity shoot my amazing sister Kelli did for me. It was so much fun, and we haven't even been able to look at all the pictures! But I love them!

Baby's firsts

Not good ones. DB had his first car accident today, and we both had our first ambulance ride, with daddy strapped down in the back. We were driving down to some engineering thing with one of Hyrum's coworkers and his wife. Coming up on our exit, traffic in the exit lane slowed, and came to a complete stop. After we sat there a few seconds, Hy looked in the rear view mirror, yelled out something like "Oh crap, we're going to get hit" or something similar, and swerved the steering wheel to the right and began to accelerate to try and get out of this guy's way. When he yelled, I looked in the side-view mirror and a saw a red truck barreling towards us. A millisecond later we felt the impact and spun off the road, doing a 360. This is the damage.

The truck that caused it (some kid, no drugs/alcohol, just not paying enough attention and hit us going 65 mph without hitting the brakes, according to his statement), and the car that he hit after we spun out of the way
The second and third cars hit. Luckily, no one was in the backseat in that car, or they would be dead. This guy had a concussion and some stitches, and his wife appeared fine for being in that car (at least this is the info I have).
Our car.
Based on what I felt, I had NO idea it would look this bad. It was scary, and during the spinning I thought we might flip, but it didn't feel like this would be the damage. I still can't believe it.
Yes, since there were 4 of us, there was someone sitting there. K (Hyrum's coworker's wife), was behind Hyrum and was the most injured person in the entire accident. She was life-flighted to the local hospital (not life-threatening, but apparently they sometimes do that based on what the car looks like in addition to the person being injured, and she was pretty bad), and we discovered she has a broken scapula, fractured sternum, and her face was all bruised, swollen and cut-up. L hit his head and had a big bump, but that was his only visual injury (not sure if there were others, we were all pretty concerned about his wife). Here they are trying to figure out how to move her.
Everything happened in such a way that it could have been so, so much worse.

*The couple with us, K and L, were planning on bringing their 2 month old baby, but everything worked out perfectly (she was able to pump enough when that wasn't normal, felt no anxiety about leaving him, etc) for grandma to watch him along with their other 3 kids. K was pushed into the middle, I can't imagine what it would have been like had he been there, for both of them. We are all so thankful for that.

*I was sitting as far from the impact as possible, so I had the least injury (none really, that I'm aware of yet, though I'm sure I'll be sore). Had I been sitting where K was (if they had driven, I would be), I don't even want to think about what would have happened to DB. I can't.

*Hyrum saw the truck coming so was able to get our front end out of the way (the cops' first thoughts on the scene were that there would be casualties). Had he not, we would have been smashed between the two cars, and I have little doubt about what would have happened to K and L, and probably us. Had he gotten all of the way out, the people in front of us likely would have been dead. The fact that we were able to take the initial impact at an angle, I believe, led to as few injuries as possible all around.

Hyrum says to never let them strap you down, they leave you on that hard board forever! He said his neck hurt and they made him get on this and we rode to the hospital in the ambulance. He had a neck x-ray but everything is fine (other than him wearing a neck brace and being in pain) and we were home a few hours later.
K's lipstick kiss from the backseat (not sure how it got there, she was wearing a seatbelt, we all were).

Stats on me:

*I initially felt totally fine, and hours later I still do, though my head is starting to throb a little
*DB is kicking and moving like crazy
*No spotting
*No contractions
*No pain at all
*No bruising or tenderness from the seatbelt, I didn't hit anything else
*Based on how I'm feeling and everything, none of the doctors/nurses/EMTs etc seemed concerned
*I'm not worried at this point, about either one of us
*Now I need to go take a shower and get all the dirt, glass, debris off of me

Old Wives Tales Answered

Oops, finally getting around to this. I threw in some weird ones I found online that I've never heard!

Craving sweet things- Girl
Hair on legs is normal, not more or less- Girl
Wedding ring on string above the belly (does it still count if I use floss?)- Boy
Baby's heart rate is above 140- Girl
Hyrum hasn't been gaining weight along with me- Girl

The Mayans determined the sex of the baby by taking the mother's age at conception, and the year of conception. If both are even or both are odd...it's a girl. If one is even and one odd it's a boy- Boy
I'm the last born, and my mom had a girl first- Girl
I don't like the heel of bread (who does?)- Girl
Chinese Gender Chart- Boy
I prefer laying on my right side- Boy
If you asked to see my hands, I would show them palm up- Girl
I only dream about baby girls- Girl
Baby kicks me on the right side more often- Girl
My right breast is bigger- Boy
My pillow faces south at night- Girl
I'm clumsier- Boy
Carrying high (I guess, I don't think I'm carrying low)- Girl
Extra weight is all over- Girl
Baby is not very active- Girl
My mom doesn't have gray hair- Girl
Not craving meat (could hardly touch it in the beginning)- Girl
Conceived on the day of ovulation- Boy
I was taking calcium supplements at the time- Girl
What do I think I am having? (according to some study, moms intuition is right 70% of the time)- Boy
Did not have severe morning sickness- Boy

So, the final total is:
Boy- 8
Girl- 16

I guess we'll see in a couple months if this (and Hyrum) is right!

Due date

Most of you don't know this, but today should have been my due date. This was the only picture I took, and then the next day I said goodbye. Being so early, it was a lot harder emotionally than I thought it would be, and I can't even imagine what others I know have gone through. I just wanted to take a moment today and remember, and be grateful to know that in just a few short months I will become a mother.

California Trip

I'm so glad I was able to go to California for my G-ma's funeral and spend time with my family. Here are some of the highlights from the trip!

Day of the funeral, wearing Kristin's dress, mom's tank top, and mom's shoes. I had nothing that would work for a funeral! Can you find the mom in this picture?
Pregnant sisters and cousins! I'm due 3 1/2 weeks after Kristin, and Sierra's baby girl showed up last week!
Momo and 3 of her grandkids, I picked the one where they were all at least looking up and Tessa's underwear wasn't showing.
Cute Ella in Tessa's hand-me-downs. I want a girl so I can get all this cute stuff!
At the park

Momo multi-tasking. Is she ever off the phone?
Visiting Momo at her office in the city. Here is a picture of the view from one level, and you can see where Hyrum and I had our first date- Coit Tower!
Love Kristin's skinny little kids and their pants that don't stay up.
Ella, playing with my tape measure and wondering when the heck mommy is going to get out of that store in China Town!
The kids releasing Sylvester (a lizard Hyrum and Josh found in the backyard) back into the wild.
Riding their new bikes, they loved it! Tessa did not want to get off.
Her sweet pouty face that had seconds before been a big smile. But, ya know, I wanted a picture and that's not allowed.
Totally random, but this is a picture of two pieces of fruit from the same tree at a friend's house. It's a lemon tree (see the lemon?) but this year it also started growing those big round things. It smells and tastes like a mix between a lemon and a grapefruit. Weird!

I call this section "Everybody loves uncle Hyrum"

This is how the convo went with Tessa-
"Hey Tessa, did you know that Uncle Hyrum is coming to visit tomorrow?"
Tessa, for the next 24 hours- "I don't WANT him to come here. I HATE him. Why does he have to come visit?"
"Why do you hate him?"
"Because, he's a GUY."

And this is how she reacted when he got here. Yup, that's our Tessa! She also liked me a lot more when he got there/after he left. It was a lot of fun being on her good side!
Tessa brushing my hair. This was, of course, after Hyrum came and she started liking me. I can't wait to see everyone again!

Baby Shower gift

For the "hard to shop for" person on your list, what could be better than this? I can guarantee they don't have one.

26, 27, 28 and 29 weeks

At my 27 week appt I was measuring 4 weeks ahead! Yeah, we made a lot of twin jokes for a while. However, at today's appt I was back to measuring just 1 week ahead. The midwife thought it might be because the baby was floating around pretty high that day, who knows. We are as sure as we can be that there is only one in there! Also, all my bloodwork from 27 weeks came back great. I'm a tiny bit hypoglycemic (I think that's the right word) so they just said to make sure I eat protein every few hours. But I was doing that anyway because I can tell when it's low, or when I am about to get shaky. Here is the ever expanding belly, it's getting pretty big but I love it!
