Here are my before and after photos of my kitchen. The before was totally 1984.
It was golden oak cabinets and they were fairly well made so no need to replace them yet and I nearly had a hernia when I was looking to replace. EXPENSIVE!!!The laminate counter top was just a really ugly old color and the back splash was just as ugly.
So I painted the cabinets top and bottoms. They look white but they are a creamier color. I wanted to antique them but when I got the glaze on one, it looked like some really bad 70's kitchen.
So I opted to just keep them a solid color. I really like them. I redid the back splash in bead board and then painted them black. I LOVE them. I also ripped the old lighting down. I still have a couple of lights to replace but for now they are OK.
I also replaced the laminate all by myself. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. I told Robbie not to worry about me ripping the laminate off because I could fix it. I told him I had watched a ton of you tube videos on how to replace it. At this point Robbie is just beside himself. He has no idea that when he married me I would rip his houses apart. I actually think I did a really good job. I am totally bragging here. It was a little scary at first but when it started sticking like it was suppose to it went pretty fast. My quick tip- some of my corners didn't get as tight as I wanted so I put a little super glue in and clamped them down and wallah-stuck laminate. Also Thanks Dad for the Laminate cutter. It worked like a gem and It is a fun new tool.
I really wanted to make this look like a piece of furniture so I dropped the cabinets about 6 inches from the ceiling. I still have molding to put on top.
I am eventually going to replace the tile floor and so when that gets done I will put some furniture feet on it
