Look who decided to grow up

Seriously, when did this little boy become a kid? Who said my "Sweet Baby J" could grow up anyway? I love this spunky little guy. He had his first day of Mother's Day Out today. He's in the Frog Class and he gets to see all his friends from his Fish class last year. He likes his new teachers and from the sound of it, he had a great day. Meanwhile, Mason and I had a quiet, but rather productive day. :)

I also found a couple of other cute pictures on my phone. I had to laugh at this picture of Mason and Jensen. I have one strikingly similar with Carson and Jensen in it.And I had to post this to tell about Mason's obsession with being on a bed. He LOVES playing on the bed. He gets all excited and smiles and laughs the whole time he's up there. He loves to lay back on the pillows, like so. For a baby who is a little on the serious side, it's a kick to watch him go nuts.

Birthday Boy

Mason is our birthday boy today! That year went by quick! He has been so fun lately. I love his little baby words and noises, his baby movements and his kissable baby cheeks! :)Mason at 1 year says 6 words and makes about 10 animal noises. He has become a great crawler. He can pull himself up to stand, but hasn't shown any interest in walking yet. (That's okay with us. The fact that he's crawling before age 1 puts him ahead of the curve in our family!) He's still pretty serious. He definitely has some stranger anxiety. He doesn't like to smile at people he doesn't know, instead giving them a blank stare or a furrowed brow! This was the birthday cake we all devoured. Yeah, not the prettiest cake. I've been a little under the weather and I also let Carson and Jensen help me decorate it. What really mattered was that it was tasty! Can you tell the birthday boy liked it?The big deal for today was that Mason got his new carseat and it was facing a new direction! Surprisingly he didn't love it. I think I might need to adjust his straps so they're more comfortable. But he kept giving me this funny look because he could see me while we were driving. Goofy boy.Happy 1st birthday my big boy!

New Adventure

Carson begins his new adventure today. KINDERGARDEN! He was nervous and a little overwhelmed after back to school night, but this morning it was all excitement.Dustin stayed home with the little boys so that I could walk Carson into his class this morning. We found his hook to hang up his backpack, said hello to his teacher and sat down at his table. They were playing with play dough, so I helped him open a container. Then I said good bye and "Have fun!" He just looked at me and said, "I'm already having fun!" Can't wait to pick him up this afternoon and hear about all the fun he had on his first day of school.

**Well, with a start like that, could the day go wrong? No way. He had a great day and he loves kindergarden! I can't help but feel the same excitement about this new adventure that he does.

Happy 6th Birthday!

Carson had a wonderful 6th birthday. I really can't quite wrap my brain around the fact that he's 6 now. :)

Here's the pictures we got of the giant life sized angry birds game that we played at his party. The kids LOVED it. It was pretty entertaining to watch them throw their water balloon "birds" at the pigs fortress.Carson loved his little "Angry Birds" backpack clips. He also got several other great gifts from his family and friends.
I just loved his enthusiastic breath to blow out the tiny flame!I sure do love this birthday boy.

Absent

So it's been a while since I blogged. Partially because I didn't feel I had anything even remotely blog worthy to write about. And partly because I was too busy. Kind of contradictory, I know, but sometimes busy isn't exactly exciting!

Not to jump the gun, but I thought I'd post a little about Carson's birthday. It's tomorrow, but we've spent the last month preparing for his party. His final chosen theme (because he's had about 25 during the last year that he has mentioned) was "ANGRY BIRDS!" Just in case you don't know, Angry Birds is this hilarious phone app where you sling shot upset little birds into all different kinds of fortresses built by some mean little pigs who have stolen the said birds eggs. It's the most popular phone app out there! And while it is super cute and funny, there is very little licensed Angry Birds material to be had. Which made this birthday theme a little more of a challenge, since I couldn't just go to the party isle at the grocery store and buy a bunch of pre-made crap. I had to spend lots of time making homemade crap instead. Fortunately for me, the internet is a wonderful source of ideas that other wildly creative people are willing to share!

So here's what we've got: And I apologize for the less than fantastic pictures, since I'm working solely off my phone these days.
The Invitation: And yes, I drew the bird. These cute bags, which Carson helped me make, are for gathering eggs for a little egg hunt. I patterned the faces after my balloons below. The candy filled eggs, and even some special "Golden Eggs."These next 3 are yarn pompoms that I made so that the kids can play a miniature version of Angry Birds with small bathroom cups. Got this fun idea here. We made enough birds for each of Carson's guests to take one home. But the pigs are my favorite! Here are some more of my little birds that Carson thought he and his friends could color while waiting for everyone to arrive. This is pretty much it for my decor. The balloons are my very favorite thing! I got the faces (and the banner) here for free! And can you tell that the banner is made up of iPhones? Pretty clever. And these are the cupcakes. Yes, I know, I studied baking in college, I should SO be able to do much better than this. But really, like a group of 5 & 6 year olds even care, and even if they did, whop-a-dee-doo, because the cupcakes are just going to get eaten anyway!!!!! At any rate, I thought they were funny and Carson enjoyed helping me assemble them. I got the idea for them here.
There is one last game that we've prepared for. A giant life sized Angry Birds game to be played in the backyard with water balloons, a fortress of assorted boxes and pig balls that we made. Pictures to follow, but in case you want a sneak peek, here's where I got the idea. It's been a lot of work, but if you know me, you know I've been preparing as best I could little by little, so that it didn't all slam me during the last week. Hope this kid has a very memorable 6th birthday!
