A Perfect Day

We had quite the fun Memorial Day weekend I'd say. Actually the entire week leading up to it was crazy fun!! Amber Kay was in town, so pretty much there were a lot of late nights and poor Benton was more or less without a wife for a week. Poor guy. But that's another post for the ol blog.
We kicked off the long weekend with a road trip to Greer. Our friend's the Hatch's were kind enough to invite us along to their friends' cabin. Aside from our kids' forgetting that night time is for sleeping, and the constant 35 mph wind that made for a lot of noise that kept me up both nights, we had a GREAT time. Really. It was so relaxing and our hosts, the Steele's, were the nicest people ever with the 2 cutest little boys! We went on a little hike and saw lots of deer, played some games, laughed harder than I remember laughing in a looooooong time at one of those games, (something about a 1/2 horse, 1/2 woman giving upside-down piggy backs to babies, don't ask) I think the altitude got to us a bit :), it became the scapegoat of the weekend. We ate really yummy BBQ, took naps, ran into people at church, oh, and let's not forget the Burger House stop on the way up, where ran into the Tenney's and loaded up on the world's best bean and cheese burritos.
We couldn't take the babies outside much because of the wind, but Macey didn't mind it, even though it made walking a challenge. Benton took her on a little hike and played by the lake for a while. She was in heaven.
All that time and all that fun, and we didn't take a single picture except this one of Miss M.

We came home Sunday night to beat the holiday traffic. (and we did, made it home in under 4 hrs) Monday just happened to be a Perfect day, weather wise. Quite unusual for these parts. We took full advantage and met up with Stacy to hike "A" mountain.
With 4 adults and 7 kids, we were quite the site and on many occasions had to move over for other hikers going at a normal pace.

The whole gang!
Macey did Awesome and walk the majority of it on her own. She insisted on being held for part of it, but not by me! Nope, it had to be either Grandma or Dad.
Now this is the way to hike, bum both kids on the Dad. hehe. Benton's such a good sport.

aren't we cute?

almost done!
Crew did so well. He LOVED it! But, by the end he was a little pooped. Poor baby. Doesn't he just look defeated? hahaha

Can't even hold his little head up.
After the hike, we loaded up and headed to the park for a picnic and splash pad action. Crew perked right up. Actually, he wasn't too thrilled with it, may have something to do with the water turning on and spraying him right in the face. Maybe...
After some naps for the chillins, we got our BBQ on. Cheeseburgers, sweet potato fries, veggie kabobs, grilled corn on the cob, potato wedges, baked beans, grilled pineapple. We ate like kings. And topped it all off with home-made chocolate cherry ice cream. Yummmy. I decided not to count calories that day.

These 2 know how to party. This picture does NOT justify how MESSY these 2 babes were!! Oh my goodness!

because one piece is never enough.
We sat and digested our gorged bellies while the kids played in the pool.
This was so cute. Everyone was exhausted after a very eventful day, so these cute girls gathered round to watched some youtube videos.

The entire day I couldn't help but thinking how perfect it all was. The weather, the company, being OUTSIDE!, playing, spending time with the people I love, good eats, I could on and on. Thank you to all those who have sacrificed so much so we can celebrate with a whole lot of fun. It seems a little wrong, doesn't it? But still, I am grateful to those who sacrifice being away from their families so I can spend precious time with mine.
