Moses: 4 Months Old

Dear Moses,

I don't know how it's even possible for you to get cuter, but you somehow manage it every month. You're the happiest, most cheerful little guy around. I'm not kidding, every single time you make eye contact with someone, you smile. You don't just smile with your mouth but your whole body. You smile so big that your eyes disappear and you wiggle your whole body. I can't get enough! My favorite thing to do with you is to just get you to smile!

You are getting chubbier and chubbier with each passing day. I love squeezing your squishy thighs. I love your knuckle dimples and your little rubber band wrists. You're too cute!!! You're still kind of a fat little blog and don't move around much yet. You have rolled from your belly to your back a few dozen times, but it almost seems like it's an accident when it happens, not purposeful. I love that you're not mobile yet and you stay wherever I set you. I don't have to worry about you rolling off the bed yet. I lay you on our bed for the majority of your naps.

We're living with Grandma Janie and Guelito right now while our new house is being built. It has been so fun to watch them love on you and interact with you all the time. They're pretty smitten! Everyone is always gathered around you, fighting over who gets to hold you next. Your big brothers have been really into holding you lately, and Eli has even been asking to carry you around the house. I'm always supervising when he does it because it makes me nervous, but I can tell he feels so big and strong when I let him, so I try to let him do it whenever he wants.

You're finally starting to figure out that you have hands and that they can grab things. It's so funny because I'll frequently find you holding your hand in front of your face, staring at it in wonder and amazement. You're reaching for things now and are sometimes able to curl your fingers around them. We started putting you in the jumparoo a few days ago, and boy, do you love it! You've figured out that you can jump and play with the toys a little. It's a great place to put you for a bit while I get something done. You're always really happy in there.

You have been waking up in the night a lot lately, usually three times. Once at around 12:30, once at 3:30, and once at 6:30. I seriously can't keep doing this for much longer. I feel like I'm going crazy! It's so hard for me to not get a longer stretch of sleep. I talked to your pediatrician about what to do and he says to let you cry in the night. You don't need to be eating that often. I know I need to do it, but the thought of making you scream makes me so sad. I don't want you to feel abandoned and hopeless! Ugh, we'll see if I can muster up the courage to do it.

The amounts of drool that come from your mouth every day are incredible. You can soak through a shirt within a half hour of me putting it on you. I've started having you wear a bib at all times because that's the only way I don't have to change your outfit a dozen times a day. You always seem to have a long string of drool coming from those beautiful lips of yours that I can't stop kissing.

I feel so grateful to have another healthy baby boy. Since you're our last, I'm trying my hardest to soak up every minute with you because I know how fleeting it really is. I feel really emotional about you getting older and growing bigger with each passing day. I can't believe how blessed I am to have you in my life. You bring sunshine into the life of everyone that sees you and knows you. Thank you for filling me with so much happiness and for being an example of joy.

I'll love you forever and ever,
Mama
