Isaac: 17 Months Old

Dear Isaac,

One of the funniest things about you this month is how much you love to rough house with your brothers, particularly Oliver. You wrap your arms around them, bury your head into their chests, and push them down with a big grin on your face. You smack them, push them, lay on them, and pretty much attack them in any way possible. You just want to play! I guess it's one of the best ways you show affection. It's hilarious how forceful you are with them. I was trying to explain your new pastime to my mom but it wasn't until she saw it in person that she really "got it." She couldn't believe you!

Your talking is improving more and more every day. I can hardly believe how well you're talking and how much you're saying. As of the past few days, you've started stringing 3 words together into a mini sentence that actually makes sense. The other day, you came up to me crying. When I asked you what was wrong, you said "Hurt." I said "Oh no! What happened?!" And you said "Eli hit." When I went to question Eli about it, he told me that he had in fact hit you. I could hardly believe that you were able to get that message across to me at such a young age!

You're taking great naps lately, which is so nice for both of us. You've been pretty clingy lately so the only time I'm really able to get anything done is when you're asleep. Your naps are usually at least two hours long, sometimes three. You sleep 11-12 hours at night and always wake up really happy. One of my favorite things is getting you out of your bed in the morning. It's silly, but I always miss you when you're sleeping.

It's been a pretty hard month with you and I think it's because you've been teething. You have all 4 of your molars now. I can't imagine how much it must hurt for those suckers to push through your gums. I've been alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen pretty much around the clock for the past few weeks. I feel a little guilty about giving you so much but I know you must need it. You've been so fussy and want me to hold you all of the time.

You're still nursing twice a day. As much as I love it, I'm starting to feel pressure to cut you off. I think I'm going to cut down to once a day in the next week or so and then be done completely by 18 months. I'm going to miss it like crazy and don't even like thinking about not nursing you anymore. It tears me up inside. It's the only time you seem like a baby to me and the only time when you'll snuggle with me. You're too busy!

This month, you've really taken an interest in climbing. You love to climb up on the couch and can actually hoist yourself up there by yourself. You're able to pull out the kitchen chairs and use them to climb onto the table. I've found you standing proudly in the middle of the table more than once, which scares me like crazy, especially because the table is right by the stairs. You could easy tumble over the railing and down the staircase.  Eek! I really have to keep my eye on you!

I enjoy you so much. I was just commenting to your dad about how almost everything you do and say is funny/charming. You are such a light in my life and I'm so happy I get to spend my days with you.

Love forever,
Mama
