Halloween '06

As many of you may already know, I'm not much into Halloween. It's not that I'm an overly pious person, but a celebration of evil -- which Halloween is for a lot of people -- just isn't my cup of tea. It just kind of rubs me the wrong way. However, I think it's a lot of fun for kids, and I know my kids love it. And anything that makes my kids that happy can't be all bad. They don't like the scary, dark, haunted, evil part of it either. They like dressing up like princesses (or, in Emmy's case, "Queen Lucy of Narnia") and getting free candy. That's what it's all about, right?

Here are some pictures of our Halloween '06.

In the interest of equal time...

I was told that since I blogged about BYU football when they beat TCU a couple of weeks ago, that I need to blog about Utah football too. Well, in the interest of fairness, I shall.

I don't know exactly what is wrong with the Utah football team, perhaps because the list it too long to narrow down to anything specifically. A couple of things I noticed as the Utes got beat by the second worst team in the conference last night...

1) Ratliff can't throw an accurate ball beyond about 5 yards.
2) Weddle can't keep up in man coverage when the receiver runs an unexpected route (read: over-the-middle slant route)
3) Utah's defense was tackling about as well as BYU's did last year.
4) The play calling by OC Andy Ludwig was atrocious. A 30 yard fade pattern on 4th and 4 with a QB that can't complete anything???

I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

And please spare me the comments about having beat BYU the last 4 years in a row. We're all aware of the record.

And I'm not saying BYU is going to beat Utah this year. It doesn't matter how good one team is and how bad the other team is when it comes to the rivalry game. Just look at last year... BYU was favored and nobody thought Utah had a chance, but the Yewts won anyway. All that said, however, I really do think BYU will win it this year.

A new vice....

Around the Jacob household, the adults have found a new vice we like to indulge in, after the kids have gone to bed. No worries, this is a "G" rated blog, so it's not that. It's "Warm Delights" by Betty Crocker. They're little, single-serving size microwavable treats in various baked-good flavors. My personal favorite is the Peanut Butter Fudge Brownie, while Robyn prefers the Molten Chocolate Cake. We've both tried three or four varieties, and there hasn't been one yet that we just couldn't stand. I like pretty much all of them. There's a cinnamon swirl cake flavor that I think makes a great mid-morning snack, especially if one didn't have time for much of a breakfast. I wouldn't ever pay the regualr price, which is somewhere around-or-over $2 a piece, but we happened to catch them on a "10 for $10" sale at Albertson's a couple weeks ago. When that sale comes up again, we'll be indulging some more, that's for sure. Yes, I'm starting to run again. Gotta work off these calories somehow, and that's the "G" rated way that I'll write about here...

Wasatch Autumn

It seems that soon after BYU plays their first football game, something amazing tends to happen in the Wasatch Mountains. The trees start to change color. Sunday afternoon we took a drive up the canyon and I got these gorgious pictures.
