The school knew and chose not to report to the police because they believed that there were no laws around the legality of AI CSAM. The school officials are not lawyers. They should have reported to the police regardless of what they believed.

The laws may or may not have caught up to AI abuse images yet, but that doesn’t make them innocent images. These girls felt violated. It was their likeness used to create CSAM.

I can pull hundreds of stories about schools covering up sexual abuses. Probably thousands going back far enough.

That’s more what I was referencing vs the smaller disciplinary actions.

There’s an incredible amount of ways the school could have taken action here and being willfully obtuse about what consequences look like for perpetrators only helps the narrative that there’s nothing to be done here.

We can teach our children how to respect boundaries, what rape culture is, that there will be consequences for sexualizing their peers without consent, take action to help with investigations, inform the parents, make their own reports to the authorities, offer counseling to the victims, I may keep editing this as I think of more tbh.

There are many ways the school could have shown they support the victims and help the perpetrators be brought to justice.
