Diary of a Potty Trainer

The big week has finally come. I am out of my mind but I went to North Carolina with my girlfriends (another post yet to come) and came back so rejuvenated that I thought it was time to tackle potty training with Will and baby food with Macy. Here's my experience so I can remember it when I go through this with Macy:

DAY 1: SICK!!! Why am I doing this now? I took Will to the store at 8 a.m. to pick out undies (Thomas of course) and a toilet along with a potty training chart. We started and at 11:30 a.m. that day I was ready to quit. He peed on the carpet, on the counter and pretty much everywhere but the toilet. Good thing I have Abby and Trisha who were only a phone call away to support me. I think all moms need a support line. We had 1 poop incident as well but by late afternoon it started going better. That is when I decided I would give it 3 days and if he wasn't making progress we would wait. We have plenty of time, right? He's only 2 1/2 so no rush. I just don't like poop and pee. In fact, I don't really like anything toilet related. We ended up going through 8 pairs of underwear that day.

DAY 2: Much better. I think the total underwear tally for the day was 3 pairs. Awesome!!! He was starting to get that if he has to pee he goes in the toilet. We didn't have any major accidents other than a slight poop but we made it to the toilet and we are so proud of him. He earned 5 stickers so when Mike got home we all went to the dollar store to pick out a toy. Will came home with a large bag of suckers and was so happy. He did so much better and I felt like this might be working out. What a champ.

DAY 3: I'm a proud mom of a boy that poops in the toilet. No accidents yet and it's already 10:30 a.m. He let me know when he had to go and we made it with no problems. The poop thing scared him a bit but he did it and earned another sucker. Kids will do anything for candy. Wait, so will I. Anyway, I'm thinking this is it. It's day 3, it keeps getting better so no more diapers. It's really cute to see how excited Will gets as well. He is so proud of himself so this could be a good thing--until we're stuck in traffic on the freeway and he has to go but can't. That's when diapers are great things. We are sticking with diapers at night for now but that's no big deal. I can handle 1 diaper a day. Wow, he's growing up so fast. I can't believe I'm old enough to have a potty trained boy. These are big moments.

Macy started oatmeal and stage 1 foods this week and is loving them. She's so easy and excited about food--she takes after her parents. We are proud of her too. It's cute to watch her eat and I wish I had a video camera to capture it. She sucks her spoon like a bottle and then smiles while all the stuff falls out of her mouth. I love her.

Anyway, just had to post the big updates. Oh, and we have a backyard. See, some people might spread things out in their lives but Mike and I like to take on a billion things at once. We finished our yard, our house, cleaned it so it's ready to sell, potty trained Will and started feeding Macy all since Monday. I guess I got more relaxed on my vacation than I thought because I feel really energized. Fun times!

Home for Sale

That's right. The Rogers are moving (maybe, if our home sells). Where you might ask? I don't know. In fact, I don't really want to leave. This is a great neighborhood next to my best friends and located down the street from a wonderful park. I'm not really sure what we are doing but we thought we would put it up for sale and see what happens. Our lives are up in the air right now so it seemed like a good time to see what happens in this market. It's a lot more work than I thought because selling means I have to keep my house immaculate everyday while working and taking care of my kiddos. I hope the buyers appreciate it. :) So tell your friends, family, everyone that they should come and check out Holladay. It's a great place to live and we love our home so they have to love it too. I will post some pics but it is also listed on the MLS for your viewing. It is #914828 (you can always go to http://www.utahrealestate.com/ and plug in the MLS number). A video tour will be available soon so you can check out how the Rogers live. No pressure on me whatsoever! Looking forward to a new adventure to share with my family so let's get this baby sold.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun

I cannot believe it's already the end of August. CRAZY. I am already getting excited about Halloween. It's such a great holiday and my kid have their costumes ready. I just think everything about Halloween is so great--candy, pumpkins, costumes, candy, parties, fall and candy.

Macy rolled over today and we are so excited for her. She has been working on it the last week and she finally made it. She has been getting so frustrated when I put her on the floor because she just wants to turn over. She is already getting close to 4 months old and I can't believe how quickly the time is passing. I love her so much. She is the sweetest, cuddliest little girl ever. I get excited to wake up to her every morning because she always has the biggest smile on her face. Honestly, she is the best little baby--so happy and content. I think it must be in the name because if you're name is Macy you have to be a little sweetheart. I am really enjoying being the mom of 2. I thought it would be overwhelming but it's not and we have so much fun together. She started smiling at 6 weeks old and hasn't stopped since so it makes me feel like I am doing something right. I love her--did I say that? Well, I love her.

Will just went on a camping trip with his dad over the weekend and had a little mishap in the swamp. My story should really be about how he fell half way in the mud and looks like two-face but my question is why did Mike let him wander over to the swamp by himself? Hmmm, well he's alive and well. That kid's name fits him perfectly--Will. He is the most determined little boy ever and though he's stubborn I love him for it. He is a sweetheart and has the greatest little laugh. His obsession with Thomas hasn't faded so we're still doing a lot of choo choo train things. I have a train sandwhich cutter so we eat train sandwhiches, sing Thomas songs that I make up (and they are not too shabby if you ask Will). We even took trax (aka Thomas) downtown to Gateway the other night just to get a caramel apple. Will thought he died and went to Heaven. The highlight was when a waiter in a suit got on the train and Will yelled out, "Choo Choo Driver". He was so excited to see the train conductor on our cart. He just makes me laugh. I love the way he says Daddy (dayee) and how he always says, "Just a sec", "I'm coming" or "in a minute" when I call him. He loves to check on me all the time by asking, "Mama, you okay? Okay?" or when I hit my hand on the car door he asked to kiss it better. Honestly, I am writing this stuff for me to remember because these are the phrases and moments I don't want to forget. I wish I could capture everything and not forget any of it but it all fades so quickly.

I saw The Time Traveler's Wife tonight and it just made me love my hubby and kids even more than I already do. It's a great show, better book of course, but it just all comes back to family and how wonderful it all is. Love my family. :)

So fun!

I know this is all I think about these days but I love being a mom. I do--love it. I love playing trains all day with Will and making faces at Macy in my attempt to get her to look at me. It sounds like I do nothing everyday but if that's the case then why am I so tired by 9:00 every night? I can't stop smiling because as I write this I can hear Will up in his bed talking to himself. He is repeating all the names of Thomas the train and his friends. Good ol' Thomas. Does anyone love singing the Thomas theme song in a British accent as much as Mike and I do? I thought I was the worst with foreign accents until I met Mike. Sometimes we try to talk like Harry Potter. We are not actors, singers, dancers or whistlers but we are awesome. That's going to be our family slogan.

I'm over writing so I'll post some pics and exit. Life is too short to be writing about it.

Macy Lyn Rogers

She is here. She has been here for exactly 3 weeks now and life has been fantastic. I love this little girl to death and could spend my entire day just kissing her face. I love newborn babies--they are so tiny and cute and sweet and I want to squish them.

Everything went so well. We went into the hospital on May 11 and I was induced. They just get right to it and I was in labor (painlessly) for 12 hours and she finally arrived at 6:47 pm. She came out so quickly and easily just like Will so there has been absolutely NO pain. That's how I like it--painless and easy. She was born on Monday weighing 7 lbs. 3 oz. and 20.5 inches long. I'm pretty sure at least 1 inch of her is her toes. She is 100% Rogers with a little Holtby in her features. She has really long legs, super skinny and long fingers and toes. Clearly none of that comes from me. Right now she has lots of dark brown hair and blue eyes but I'm sure it will change. Who would have thought I'd have a blonde haired, brown eyed boy and a brown haired blue eyed girl? Genetics mean nothing--it's a crap shoot but so fun.

Macy has been such a sweetheart. She's a very content baby, great sleeper for a newborn (but I'm still exhausted) and a great eater. It has been so much fun the second time around because I am much more relaxed. Will is really happy with her as well and likes to make sure she's around at all times. It hasn't been easy by any means because Will is really mad at me. He has decided to really act like a 2 year old and likes to yell and scream at me as well as hit me a lot. He spends a good portion of his day in time out but I love him. He needs anger management courses since she has come along but he's great.

I don't have great pics to post but I will attach more as I get my photos back from the photographer because she did a much better job than I did.

Yay for babies and yay for me being a mom for 2. CRAZY!!!!

Wow!

Check out MSN's headliner today:

Could Pot Cure the Economy? Promise of tax bonanza fuels the push to legalize.

Let's all think about that right now......okay I'm done. Maybe pot could cure the economy, what do I know? Nothing. Maybe if we were all high we wouldn't care or worry about our financial problems, family, life, anything. That's the way to handle things--escape! Honestly, who are these people writing these articles?

I'm having my baby by Monday. She is supposed to be here already but I guess she likes my tummy too much. Probably because it's filled with oreo cookies, milk and root beer floats. I wouldn't leave it either. My doctor promised I would be induced if she didn't show up by Monday. I have taken all advice to speed up this process--mexican food, trio pizza, walking, vacuuming, sex, pulling Will around in his wagon, etc. and all it has done is caused me great pain. I am now uncomfortable and hurting and still there is no baby. :) I'm scared for labor but so excited to have a little one again. It's only been 2 years since Will was born and I feel like I've forgotten how to do everything already.

Not to switch subjects again but remember when Oprah was fun? Well, she's not anymore. Her shows are always so depressing. Ellen is fun and makes me happy. This is the benefit of working at home--Will goes down for a big nap, I log on to my computer and work for 3 hours and I get to watch Oprah/Ellen in the background. If I'm going to work I wouldn't have it any other way.

I thought I was in the mood to write about stuff but I'm not. I'll just wait until Macy is born and then I'll write and post pics. I've got some relaxing to do right now!

Over Analyzing

I'm with Will watching cartoons on this oh so snowy spring day and we're watching Maisey the Mouse. Have you seen it? This cartoon drives me nuts. They can't talk and I think Charlie the alligator is handicapped. The amazing thing is that even though they are all completely incompetent they have their own houses and yards. Here is Maisey the mouse who can't communicate, can't figure out how to make a bouncy ball bounce or put batteries in her battery operated car but she was able to qualify and obtain a mortgage as well as keep up her house and yard. What does that say about me?

I would love to have clients like Maisey and Charlie walk in to buy a home and I could just sign the paperwork for them while they try to figure out how to get the lid off the pen or fit a square block in a round hole. Same stuff applies to all the monsters on Sesame Street. Elmo has a nice place filled with computers, TVs, video camera and talking doors and shades. How did he get that set up? I've never seen an episode where they work or really do anything other than play. It's like they all have life figured out and I should be learning from them. I could play with Mr. Noodle all day and make up words to Jingle Bells on my piano to fit the theme of my day. Interesting. That's all I have for now until I get Will's 2ND B-day pics downloaded.

Well as Elmo would sing, "snow snow snow, stinks stinks stinks, snow snow stinks stinks stinks". I'm waiting for Spring to show up and stick around so that I'm not stuck inside analyzing the reality of cartoons.
