St. Patty's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  We had never really celebrated St. Patrick's Day before, but with Genevieve, I knew she would love it.  So that morning, when G woke up, I explained to her that it was a holiday and that we could wear and eat green things.  I asked her if she wanted to make green pancakes with me for breakfast, which was an automatic "yes!"  When Dave came down in his green shirt for work, I couldn't get a green shirt and pants with green on them fast enough for her; she had to change right there at the breakfast table.  Topped up with the surprise - and usually not not allowed in the house - Lucky Charms ("Daddy cereal" as Genevieve likes to call it), the morning was a hit!  Genevieve loved drinking green milk, eating green cheesy eggs, asparagus, pears, peas, and the like all day.  Next year, I'll have to see what more I can add to the festivities.  As for this year, it was a lot of fun!

A good birthday

This year for my birthday, I told Dave that I wanted to spend the day doing something fun together as a family and go out to dinner with him that night.  As my birthday fell on a weekend, it worked out perfectly.  We were in Denver that day, so we took Genevieve to the Children's Museum.  It is a great museum for toddler aged kids!  With fire engines to climb and play on, painting corners, a toy train section, dress up and dance area, a child sized grocery store (her favorite!), an outdoor playground, and much more - how could you beat it?  It was fun to watch Genevieve have such a good time.

When we arrived home later that day, Dave and Genevieve bought me an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  Dave felt bad for not baking my cake, but for any of you who know me well, a DQ ice cream cake was perfect!  I hadn't had one in years and loved it.  Genevieve sang me a wonderful rendition of "Happy Birthday" and, even, cut the cake! (Well, sort of.)  We all lived it up and spoiled our dinner with cake first.  - Just the way a birthday should be.

And, a girls night out with my February birthday friends finished off the month.  It was fun to have a night moms night off!

Valentine's Day

In the month leading up to Valentine's day, every time I took Genevieve to the grocery store with me she would get so excited.  She would spy every helium ballon character with pure excitement and tell me that they (i.e. Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, Princess Ariel) were her friend.  So for Valentine's day we bought her a balloon and card of her own.  The squeals and shrieks of absolute delight over a simple card and the balloon made our morning.  The first few photos I took of her didn't turn out as she just kept hugging the balloon and the size of it would cover her up.  We thought she'd like it, but had no idea how worth it it would be!  Topped off with flowers and dinner with Dave, it was a perfect Valentine's day.

Seeing Myself, Part II

A few weeks ago, Becca blogged about some of Genevieve's little quirks that remind her of herself.  Today was my day in the sun and I am reassured that Genevieve has some of her daddy's quirks too.

As we were eating dinner together as a family (a rare occasion) Genevieve spilt some milk down her shirt and immediately wanted to take off her shirt.  Nothing too unusual about that.  The reflection of daddy was when she then proceeded to also take off her pants and diaper, then began strut/dance around the kitchen in the buff.  When she would stop and admire her nakedness of her reflection in the window, I knew that she is definitely my girl!  She thought she was hilarious and I have to agree.  Nothing like some parading around the kitchen naked for a good laugh.
