Special Christmas Guests Have Arrived

This morning the kids woke up to find their Christmas elves hiding under the tree. Big Girl thinks she has everything figured out and is just too big for such fun, but the boys are thrilled. They have actually been praying that these little guys would come. It is such fun!
These little elves are so cute, during the day, but at night, they are mischievious! They do all kinds of crazy things every night, so stay tuned throughout the month for what they do! Just to give you some ideas.... last year they toilet papered our foyer, hung our underware out on the front shrubs (all except mine because they are smart elves), played on the ceiling fan, and made a mess eating cookies.... all while we slept. :)
Do you have any special guests like our elves visit you this time of year?

Go Gators!

We didn't get any deals this morning on our shopping adventure. I seem to lose my shopping motivation when I get out in the stores these days. I've got to get motivated, though, because Christmas Day will be here before I know it! Big Girl did get a pair of shoes that she needed, but other than that, I bought nothing!
We met the boys for lunch and then headed home for football! We all laid around and cheered for the Gators (who won against FSU). It was relaxing and fun! Somehow we ate more desserts this afternoon. Boy, will I be glad when they are gone (and I've only had one serving).
Tonight we said goodbye to my Dad and Nan, ate some more turkey and sweet potatoes, and now we are curled up watching Santa Clause 2. It's been a good day, once again, and I am grateful for such a wonderful family! I miss my Dad and Nan already! They'll be back right after Christmas and, who knows, perhaps we'll make a trip to Jacksonville to visit everyone before Christmas. : )

Saturday Shopping

The girls are heading out for a little shopping today while the boys are heading to do some bowling. I don't have much of a list (which is dangerous), but we are just going to enjoy some browsing and try not to get in the madness of the shoppers too much today. I am actually hoping most of the more aggressive shoppers had their fill yesterday! (ha!)
I'll let you know if we find anything worth posting. I will also tell you this afternoon of three very special guests that arrived at our home this morning. They are friends that come every year for Christmas and the kids love them. I love them, too, but they sometimes tend to cause a little trouble during their stay here. Stay tuned for more details.....
We will all be home no later than 3:30 to watch the big Gator Game! Go Gators!

Fun Friday

Today has been fun, although not as productive as I had hoped. I did get alot of laundry done this morning (caught up until we all get in our PJ's tonight ~ha!), and I tried to reach someone from Shaohannah's Hope and Holt and was unsuccessful. I guess they are all enjoying time with their families, which my husband quickly reminded me I should be doing instead of worrying about this adoption stuff today when everything is closed anyway. So, after gleaning a few tips from my friend, Donna (who is heading to China on Wednesday) about waiting children in China, we all headed out to see the new Bolt movie. It was great! We all really enjoyed it and it was super clean! I will be buying this one on DVD when it comes out. It is worth seeing again! So, if you haven't seen it, go get your tickets and enjoy it!
Now we are home, the boys are playing ball in the front yard while there is still daylight, and we are contemplating the best time to pull out the spread of leftovers (since somehow we are beginning to get hungry AGAIN). I think I am going to heat up some crab dip to start. ; )
Hope you are all having a great Friday! Been fun around here and I am enjoying the time with my family and I hope to curl up by the fire and Christmas tree and watch another episode of Little House on the Prairie tonight (while my heart is thinking alot more about our little Joy, where she is, and just when she will come home to us). I am grateful that her Heavenly Father already knows all about her and is watching over her and guiding our steps, even when it seems to be a dimly lit path we are traveling. I continue to cling to His word that He etched on my heart as we began this journey:
"The life maps of God are always right, and they always lead to joy." Psalm 19:8
I'll keep you posted as more unfolds, so stay tuned for the next detail of the "map" that He reveals to us....

Friday's To Do List

Today I hope to have another somewhat relaxing day, although I do have some things that must be done. We don't have any plans to "brave" the crowds at a shops, but we may venture out to see that new movie, Bolt. According to the Plugged In site on Focus on the Family, it sounds good and clean. If you haven't ever used this site, it is a must for every parent that cares about what their kids watch. This site is an awesome place to check out movies, DVD's, games, etc. It tells you everything you would want to know. (That was a free tip for those that needed it ~ ha!)

Today I have to make some of the following phone calls:

Shoahannah's Hope - to confirm that the money that they gave toward our adoption is still safe somewhere since our agency closed

Holt International - to get some more details on their China Child of Promise Program and transferring our files

A few local contacts and friends - to get more insight and wisdom on many things pertaining to adoption and the recent changes we've had in our journey in the past week, as well as, special needs adoptions, adopting an older child and the bonding or language issues that come with that, and even domestic adoptions. (If you follow this blog and you have any insights to share on any of these issues, please post a comment or email me at tammy@tonynolan.org, as I would love to hear from you)

Besides these few things, I hope to have another very quiet day with my family and enjoy eating some delicious leftovers. I'll update as soon as I can on where the Lord leads us through this "hurdle" He has allowed in our adoption journey! We covet your prayers and will be praying you all have a wonderful Friday!

Thanksgiving Food, Fun, Football, and Family

Today was awesome! It was filled with some of our favorite things. We watched the Macy's Day Parade, ate a feast, watched football, took "cat naps" on the couch, played games, ate some more, played more games, watched more football, and simply enjoyed being together! The boys played alot outside this afternoon (and I had a blast just watching them and cheering for both teams) and Big Girl finished some of her Thanksgiving/Christmas chalk artwork that she started last night that practically covers the whole street and sidewalk.

We are now nestled in by the fire and the lit Christmas tree, watching the Dallas Cowboys. We are full, once again, ater eating more food, and I am totally relaxed after my lava bath! I just had to post some of the photos from our fun today!

I have alot in my heart and mind and we have much to ponder and decide (in a few short days) as it relates to our adoption journey, but it has been nice today to simply be "still" and grateful. We really spent the day reflecting, resting, and soaking in some fun and fellowship as a family (and with our sweet neighbors, as we played football (well, I watched because we all know I couldn't play football. None of my kids would want me on their team in that sport.) HA! I'll write more soon to give you an update on this wild journey of adoption and let you know the new "track" we are on. We are following HIM one step at a time and today I am refreshed, not just from the physical rest, but from the rest that I am finding in "casting all my cares on Him" and savoring the reality that "He cares for me" (and my family and the precious little girls we are going to adopt) We are a blessed people!!!!

And now I am off to get some milk and some samples of the desserts that I made and have yet to eat today! (It's not because I was disciplined, but rather just too stuffed with the "real" food each time I pushed away from the table ~ ha!)

Turkey and Trimmings

We woke this morning with the glorious smell of turkey filling the house. We are enjoying a slow pace. The women are working in the kitchen getting all the yummy food ready, the kids are watching the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade and the men are enjoying some time chilling out and talking, but they continue to make strolls through the kitchen to sample what they can and just observe the feast that is coming.

We plan on enjoying lots of food, usually followed by a football game (or nap on the couch for us women that have been cooking all day) and then we manage to "graze" through the kitchen a few more times before retiring to bed for the night. It's amazing how much food we consume on this one day of the year!

Our menu today consists of:
Homemade Crab Dip and Wheat Thin Crackers (for appetizer while everything is cooking)
Turkey
Honey Baked Ham
Small Honey Smoked Turkey (from Honey baked because I love it)
Dressing and Gravy
Macaroni and Cheese
Broccoli Casserole
Squash
Sweet Potato Casserole (2 pans because we like eating it for days)
Cranberries
Rolls
Toll House Cookie Pies
Pecan Pies
Fresh Strawberry Cake (made with real strawberries and it's delicious!)
Sugar Plum Spice Cake

Egg Nog (a favorite for my Dad)

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and you are surrounded by those you love!

Unexpected Stress and Blessings

Monday I got a call from my Dad stating he was having a heart cath done on Tuesday morning and that they would be leaving a day later to come to our house. We were all a little stressed about the test, but God was extremely gracious. All went well! There was some blockage that he found and they are going to do a stint in a few weeks, but he said his heart looked good and the three main arteries were clear. GO GOD!
So, they drove up today and the cooking was done except for the famous "Strawberry Jello Cake (made with real strawberries). It is delicious and really easy, except they never come out of the pan easy. I hate that! You use non stick pans... for what???? Anyway, it doesn't look as pretty as the photo in my earlier post, but it will taste great! :)
So, now I am off to put my turkey in the oven. In just a few short hours the house is going to smell to yummy! Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving! I look forward to enjoying the day, seeing my family savor the food that has been prepared, and take a nap while they all watch football after lunch!
I have much to be thankful for! I am so grateful that my Dad and Nan are safely here and thank God for our family and friends!

Dessert Day

Yesterday was spend preparing all the "trimmings" for our Thanksgiving feast and today is going to be a day working on desserts. We'll be baking lots of yummy cakes and pies, and of course, we'll lick a few bowls here and there.

Today will be a little more fun as I'll be cooking with my dear friend and step mom, Nan. I love having her and my Dad here each year! We will enjoy baking desserts while the kids play football with their Daddy and Pops!
Prayerfully, it's going to be a sweet day!!! : ) I'm going to put on a few pounds just smelling these delicious desserts! (ha!)

Cooking, Cooking, and More Cooking

The grocery shopping is done, (Thanks, Britt) the ingredients are laid out and ready for use, and today we begin the cooking. From early in the day until later in the evening, I'll be on my feet cooking one dish after the next (sampling the tasty batters as they are made).
So, I'm not sure what you are doing today, but I am cooking, cooking, and cooking. Oh, and I am excited that my Dad and Nan will arrive tonight! Let the fun begin!!!
Anyone else out there spending some extra hours in the kitchen this week? : )

Marvelous Monday

It's a Marvelous Monday (especially today since we have NO SCHOOL)! We are gearing up for Thanksgiving and I am thankful that we have NO SCHOOL this week! We are enjoying the break and already beginning to cook, clean, and prepare for guests.
We have much to be thankful for and I'll be posting on that this week, but for today... I am just thrilled to have NO SCHOOL! :) I guess it's bad when the teacher is just as happy as the students to have a week off. :)(ha!)

Hope you all get more than two minutes of rest this week and you enjoy all the yummy food and time with family and friends. :) Did I say I was enjoying the week of NO SCHOOL already? HA!:) Have a Marvelous Monday!

Why We Do What We Do

My husband travels and speaks to hundreds of thousands of people each year, as well as, pastors several contemporary Christian Music artists, and it is often asked why we do what we do. We love what we do and feel most blessed to have the opportunity to follow God's calling in this arena, but just like with most responsibilities, there are blessings that come with it, and there are usually some things that can be challenging.
For us, it is often challenging to have my husband on the road and gone quite a bit. We are constantly packing, unpacking, and packing again. We are consistantly doing one of two things, waving goodbye to him or packing up our life and traveling with him (which we love to do, but we all know how it is packing for a family of 5 and we also take school on the road with us). Like most minister's families, it is difficult at times to balance the home and the ministry. It can be very difficult to give and give of yourself, your time, your energies, and talents, and often times have people send you emails that are just downright mean (and quite honestly ungodly) criticizing what you do or how you do it. Even though it isn't me they attack, it is my Man, and let's face it, we women have "claws" that we have to keep under control when someone comes at our Man. (ha!) :)
There are FAR MORE blessings that come from what we do than challenges. We absolutely love it and there is truly nothing else in the whole world that any of us would rather be doing, even if God told us to do whatever we wanted. However, I think when all is said and done the number one reason we do what we do is for the Glory of God and the advancement of His Kingdom. It really is about the souls, the hundreds of thousands of people that have come to know Christ. It's the moments like you will see in the video below that energizes us to keep going and going.
If you watch closely, at the end of this video (during the invitation), there are tons of students responding to the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One young man (who didn't fit the "stereo type" church kid) gave his life to Christ during the invitation and walked right up to Tony and hugged him and, with tears in his eyes, he thanked him for telling him the truth. It just doesn't get any better than this.
So, we do what we do, to be obedient to the One who has called us and to see HIM save souls and advance His Kingdom, one life at a time!

We are so blessed to be a part of God's amazing plan to reach people with His love and grace!

Saturday Night Silliness

We spent today relaxing. It was one of those days where I spent time writing, blogging, Christmas shopping (online), and catching up on emails, while the kids spent much of the day playing football and basketball outside with Daddy. It was so nice and, although I felt rather lazy, I enjoyed it thoroughly! This evening my Big Girl and her Daddy went on a "daddy date". He had somewhere he needed to go to watch a young guy play at a local event and decided to invite his Princess. She was so excited and I cannot wait to hear how their time together went. Each of my kids loves time alone with Daddy and it is priceless time for him, as well! While they have been gone my Big Boy and Little Boy spent some time baking with me. While I was preparing the cupcakes for my little helpers, they were playing in the front foyer. I could hear them and make out what they were doing. They were laughing and having a great time. My Big Boy had the camera and enjoyed taking picture of Little Boy as he ran and jumped on a mattress that they had drug into the open foyer of the house. Here are a few photos of their fun. I cannot believe how high Little Man is jumping. He is crazy! (ha!)

At one point, they started making a video. It was quite funny. If you listen closely to the dialog, you hear their bright idea of Big Boy introducing Little Man and saying he is going to do an "amazing front flip" and from the other room you hear the voice of reason (Mom) saying "NO". It was so funny. I tried for over an hour to upload the video and I cannot do it. UGH! You'll just have to use your imagination

We made the cutest little Thanksgiving cupcakes that look like a little plate of Thanksgiving food. They are suppose to look like a plate of turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes and butter, cranberries, and peas. The boys decorated each one and we had a great time. We enjoyed the time together, talking and laughing, and licking the icing spoons when we were done. Here are the finished cupcakes. What do you think? If you like them and want to try these cute Tiny Turkey Dinner treats, you can go here for the recipe. It's easy and fun and they really are adorable! Mine aren't quite as good as the photo on their web, but here is our masterpieces...

Morning Morsels

This morning as I read the book of James, this passage jumped out at me. There is much more in my heart and I am penning my thoughts and the word God has etched on my heart. You will prayerfully read more on this in an upcoming devotion at the Cafe, so stay tuned.
For today though, just chew on this passage. God is so good to us and faithful to mingle showers of blessings with the showers of stress ( or storms) that we often feel. We desperately need Him to do the work in our lives and enable us to become all the He created us to be. I love they way He gives the word of challenge dealing with "waiting for the Master's arrival, patiently letting the rain do its slow but sure work (so glad He added that word to let us know it WILL happen in our lives if we allow it to), and stay strong and steady", and sandwiches it with the hope of His imminent return in the first and last sentence!

"Meanwhile, friends, wait patiently for the Master's Arrival. You see farmers do this all the time, waiting for their valuable crops to mature, patiently letting the rain do its slow but sure work. Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong. The Master could arrive at any time." James 5:7-8

We have much to be grateful for this week! Most of all, we should be thankful for a God who is actively working in our lives to use us, enjoy us (isn't that amazing), and prepare us for His soon return!

Dunkin Donut Expedition

This morning my boys got a hunkering for some donuts. Being the amazing father that he is, my husband told them they were going on an expedition. They had to leave just as they were. Messy hair, Pajamas, no socks (and it's freezing outside!), and robes. It was quite hilarious when they all headed for the door and the only thing they added to their attire were elf hats.
The boys thought this was so funny and, of course, I enjoyed a bluberry donut when they came back with the treasure. (ha!) I have such an amazing partner in this life's journey and I love the "out of the ordinary" things he comes up with that make memories in the hearts and minds of my kids that will last a lifetime.

Adoption Adventure

This journey of adoption has been quite the adventure thus far! We could still have about eighteen months of waiting to even see a referral, but we firmly believe God is in control of every detail (including the wait). We've felt a few of the "stretches" that this adoption has brought our way, and God has revealed that we are having a girl and that we will call her Joy, but we have yet to see even a glimpse of her sweet face. I thought of it today like a sonogram in a pregnancy. We are confident that we are "expecting" a little girl from China, (the Great Physician has called us to it) but often times during the "wait" the picture can look a little fuzzy or distorted and hard to make out. A few days we had one of those moments...

One morning this week, we woke up and one of the first emails in our box was one from our agency. It informed us that "due to the economy, they were closing their doors". Yes, you can go back and read that again. I had to read it a few times, as well, to process it.

Where does that leave us in our adoption? We don't know yet. We know we are still on our track to Joy and our Log In Date and paperwork will stay the same, but as to what agency God will use to guide us from this point of the journey to the "finish line" or what extra costs we will incur due to the changes, we aren't quite sure! We are waiting for another update from the agency with some options and more details regarding the impending transfer.

Honestly, it was a little discouraging, but it really didn't "trip us up" like you would think. I know that God is in control and has called us to this journey of adoption. I know that He already has our little girl picked out and He is orchestrating every step of the journey to get us to her. I know He wasn't the least bit surprised by the news in the email this week, and I know that this is just one more road we will travel that will be an amazing opportunity for God to show Himself near to us and mighty on our behalf. I cannot wait to see just how He is going to use this "hurdle" in the road to bring Himself glory and reveal Himself more to our family.

Will you join us in prayer that He will continue to guide and direct us on where we are to go from here. It's been said many times that "when God closes one door, He opens another one", so we await the next door that HE opens for us! I am so grateful that He is an intimate companion to us on this journey of life, aren't you?

Feasts and Friday Night Family Fun

Our feasts with the kids today were great! We ate with our Little Man and he actually loved having us there for lunch! He ran with open arms and welcomed us for lunch! We then watched a narrative that he did called Stone Soup. It was cute and we were glad to be able to be there, encouraging him as he read his three lines. (ha!) He really did great and it was priceless to be there when he finished each line and looked up at us with a big grin as we gave him thumbs up! : )

As we entered the gym to eat with the two older kids, we were greeted by our Big Girl. She hugged me and her Daddy and talked for a few minutes and then slipped off to the table with her friends. We talked to a few people and right about the time we made it to her table, she stood up with her friends (quickly) indicating that it wasn't going to be "cool" to sit and eat with mom and dad. I cannot even describe how hilarious this was. To see all the girls (none of which had parents sitting with them) smile and rush off like we were embarrassing them. Mind you, these are the same young girls that come to our house or out to eat with us and has no problem enjoying our company, however, you put them in the "school setting" and it just isn't cool. The funny thing was we were thinking at first it was so great that she came over to us and greeted us and gave hugs, but quickly realized that she was simply making sure she covered her "bases". She gave hugs and kisses (which she wanted to do) and she also kept the "I'm a Big Middle Schooler" status with her peers. I can't describe the moment, just trust me, it was hilarious and we got the hint. We laughed and told her we loved her and she said something else about composition class (which was hard to make out since she was talking in "chipmunk" speed like she normally does) and then she headed off to her next class. My Big Girl is growing up! Help me, Jesus! :)

Our Big Boy was happy to see us. We sat with him for a few minutes before he had to rush off to class. He still enjoys having us hang around with him and his friends. We are still somewhat cool to him. So, we enjoyed listening to him and his buddies chat and just being with him! He still hugs and kisses me (even in front of his friends) and is so proud of his mom and dad. I'm enjoying while I can because I am confident the day will come when he will become a little more independant and want that little "cool front" for a while.

So after an hour and a half of eating and jumping from kid to kid, we finally headed out for a few errands to pick up some Christmas decorations we were lacking, and then returned to the school for carpool.

I enjoyed some sweet conversation with my Big Girl this afternoon after school and then my Big Boy this evening. I just love listening to them talk to me (most of the time) and tell me what they are thinking on all kinds of things. We enjoyed some homemade soup for dinner (a family favorite that I'll share with you soon) and now we are nestled inside by the Christmas tree and the fire about to watch a Little House on the Prarie episode. We are on Season Two and still loving it! It's nice to be HOME together and enjoying the beginning of the weekend (knowing that we are on a much needed break for the next week!)

Thanksgiving Feasts

Today we are enjoying some early Thanksgiving Feasts with the kids at their school. I don't anticipate the food being as good as what I make (ha!), however, we are excited to have the time with them and enjoy something a little out of the ordinary in their day. (although I am not quite sure how excited my Big Girl is that "mommy and daddy" are coming to have lunch with her. ~ ha!)
Hope you enjoy your day. I hope to be posting alot of updates tonight and tomorrow so stay tuned.... : )

More Cheerleading Fun

Tonight we had two games. We watched the girls' basketball game (and won) and then the boys (which we lost). The cheerleaders did great the whole time. It even went LONG and we walked out of the gym over an hour past the time we expected! UGH! We were all tired and ready for baths and bed.
Why am I still up and posting, you may ask. Well, the kids have all had their showers and a snack (since they had worked up another appetite) and I am killing time waiting on my water to get "lava" hot again so I can run my bath! I can't go to bed without it! :)
OK.... I've been trying to load a few photos for the past fifteen minutes and they simply won't load. Who knows why, but I think the water is hot enough now to turn my skin red, so I am off to enjoy my lava bath and head to bed. Hope you have all enjoyed the week. Be sure and check back this weekend. I have much to post about from big news in our adoption journey (no we don't have a referral), to fun treats we are planning to bake this week for Thanksgiving, the photos I couldn't load tonight, and more. : )
Hope you all have a great Friday!

Closing of the Least of These Tour

This past Sunday night the Least of These Tour closed out in Locust Grove, GA. The kids and I went with Tony so we could see it. We all thoroughly enjoyed the time together and the concert was great!
Aaron Shust was amazing! Francesca Battistelli was great! NewSong was awesome, and my Man was terrific! There were over forty people that came forward for salvation. God really blessed!
Aaron and Franchesca were extremely gracious! It was a great night and we were excited to be alongside our favorite preacher in the world! : )

Watching for Road Signs

“…If those who ignored earthly warnings didn't get away with it, what will happen to us if we turn our backs on heavenly warnings?...”
Hebrews 12:26

Do you remember taking the required tests to get your drivers license? First, you take the written test (that you hopefully study for), making sure you know the signs on the street, the correct speed limits, and the rules of driving. A year later, you take the driving test where you drive with an instructor who critiques how you follow the driving laws. Teenagers study, or should study, for this test and they look forward to the reward that comes from passing, which is the freedom to drive. From this moment on, we drive countless hours throughout our lifetimes. Whether we are taking a long road trip or just driving to work each day, we must continually follow the signs of the road. We follow the directions of the street signs to get to our desired destination, we follow the speed limit signs in order to avoid a ticket and a fine, and we obey the signs and signals for our safety, as well as, the safety of those around us.

The Bible says in Hebrews 12, “If those who ignored earthly warnings didn’t get away with it, what will happen to us if we turn our backs on heavenly warnings?” God has given us His guide book. We are called to study it and obey its content. He has spelled out in His Word directions that will take us where we need to go, but also warnings that will protect us and those around us. If you are like me, you can think of times when you were driving, rushing to get to your destination, and going a little faster than you should have been. You pass a police car and quickly press your brake to slow your vehicle to a more appropriate speed. Why do we do this?

It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas

To some it's a bit early, but to us the time is just perfect. We brought down the boxes of decorations, lights, and wreaths and begun the feat of decorating for Christmas. I love, love, love this time of year! The house is bright with Christmas lights in every room (yes every room has a tree, even if it's small), it looks, feels, smells, and sounds like Christmas! The way I see it, if the stores can deocrate this early (for profit), so can we (to usher in the celebration of our King's birth)!
On a funny note.... as we decorated for Christmas, one of the last things we put out was a snowman figure that said "Welcome" and "Let it snow". As my husband put it in the yard and walked toward the car (we were all getting ready to leave), I laughed and said, "The large pumpkin beside the snowman has to go!" It looked like we couldn't decide what season we were celebrating. It was pretty funny!
Well, at least the weather has been dropping into the twenties at night and staying quite cold during the day. So, it is beginning to look alot like Christmas! (and I LOVE it!)

Marvelous Monday

It's Monday again and we are knee deep in school! There is much to do this week and several extra appointments to keep us busy! But, amidst all the responsibilities, we must keep our perspective and focus "God-ward" and take time to laugh as much as we can (which isn't too difficult if we have kids, right!)

Hope you all have a Marvelous Monday and a great week!

God's Handiwork

FAVORITE PHOTO OF THE DAY ~

As we were driving this week we observed some of the most beautiful Fall trees I think I have ever seen. I'm either getting older and enjoying them more (cause I thought "older" folks were the ones that talked about the beautiful trees) or they are just getting prettier. :)
As we pass the trees that simply look like someone colored them with a marker, my husband and I like to simply say, "Glory"! They just seem to shout 'Glory to God' with their beauty! As I drove pass a patch of these glorious trees this week, I said, "Don't those trees just shout glory and praise to their Creator?" My Big Girl, who recently studied cells and many more things in Science beyond my mental capacity these days, replied, "Actually, Mom, they tell me that their chlorophyll has left the tree and it has taken away the dominent green color in the leaves." After enjoying a good laugh, we agreed that they could, in fact, remind her of something scientific, however, it is their Creator, GOD, that designed them to loose their chlorophyll so that we could enjoy their beauty and be reminded of His glory! So, we made it back to the whole "Glory to God" moment, and enjoyed a rather good laugh on the journey (which is usually how it is with kids, isn't it?).

If it's the case that "even the rocks will cry out to praise Him", I can't help but think that the glorious trees in the Fall proclaim His amazing handiwork if we'll just take the time to look and let our spirits listen to their anthem!

I'm hearing them.....are you?

From One Mom To Another

This came to my Inbox today and just thought I'd pass it on. I hope you all enjoy it! (Thanks, Christy, for passing this on) :)

Invisible Mother......

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store.
Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?'

Obviously, not.

No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all.

I'm invisible. The invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this?

Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'

I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated sum a cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going; she's going; she is gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England ..

Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in.

I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself.

I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.'

It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe .

I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription:

'To My Dear Friend, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'

In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work:

No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names.

These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished.

They made great sacrifices and expected no credit.

The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'

I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place.

It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.'

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life.
It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.

I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on.

The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, 'you're going to love it there.'

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right.

And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

Fabulous Friday

Today my wonderful husband surprised me with something I needed even more than I knew I needed it! After taking the kids to school, we were heading home for a normal day of "business as usual". He was going to spend some time writing and I had a day of "lists" planned. I was going to work on my Thanksgiving menu, Christmas lists (shopping, decorating, and serving, etc.)
Just before we pulled into the neighborhood, he said, "Why don't we take a drive?" We debated it at first (but only for a minute), and then we headed home long enough to grab jackets and my camera. The closer we got to our destination, the richer the colors of the trees became. Splashes of reds, oranges, yellows, and golds covered every turn! We enjoyed driving (under the speed limit because we were in NO hurry), holding hands, and talking, stopping only to inhale the beauty of the scenery and listen to the water running down a river. It was so refreshing!
After we enjoyed our scenic drive, we had a quiet and leisure, uninterrupted lunch at Cracker Barrel. Once our stomachs were full, we walked out of the Cracker Barrel restaurant hand in hand, and we realized we were both savoring a feeling we hadn't had in quite a while. We were relaxed...completely!
We headed for home and I enjoyed a lava bath in the middle of the day! Wonderful! For the first time in a very long time, we both curled up together and took a nap. Oh, yes! He usually isn't a nap taker, but I love it when he actually takes a nap with me! That is one of my top 5 favorite things to do on vacation and I got to do it today (and I wasn't even on a vacation!) Amazing!
We woke up feeling so refreshed! We stretched and drug ourselves out of bed to head back to the school to pick up the kids. On our way, we headed through Starbucks (for the second time today) for a decaf White Chocolate Mocha, and then, after enjoying an amazing day with just the two of us, we drove through the afternoon carpool to pick up the three sweetest treasures God has entrusted to us!
The kids climbed in the car and each began talking. We heard about the good, bad, and the funny events of their day and we loved it! As they each poured out their day's highlights, we caught a quick glance into each other's eyes and smiled. Without even saying a word, the smile on our faces as we looked at each other communicated it all. It's been an amazingly refreshing day and we savored it all together, and now with the hustle and bustle of the afternoon and the kids all trying to talk at the same time, we were once again reminded just how richly blessed we are! We have a love that is priceless and we still thoroughly enjoy each other after 16 years of marriage, and we have three amazing children that bring us more joy that words can say!
Despite the days that bring "chaos", stress, and emotional pressures (and I've had those days even this week), I wouldn't trade my life with anyone in this whole world. I love my life and the gracious gifts God has given to me and today has been a Fabulous Friday simply because I was able to savor the joys of the gifts from the Lord that are truly priceless to me!

My Love, you are the most thoughtful, loving, and selfless man I know. You love me far more than I could ever deserve and you are more than I could have ever imagined in a husband! I deeply love you and I haven't changed my mind about a thing. I still commit myself to your happiness, to your self fulfillment as a person and to your usefulness in God's Kingdom. I promise to love, honor, trust, and serve you, in sickness and in health, and in adversity and prosperity. I promise to be true and loyal to you and only you as long as God grants me breath!

My Three Treasures, you are the sweetest gifts God has given to us! The richest blessing of my life is being your mother. It is a privilege to be the woman loving, raising, teaching, and training you. You bring so much energy and excitement to our home and you fill my life with joy! I deeply love you all and I couldn't ask for better kids!

New Family Past Time

This week started the new family past time. Our weekly schedule now consists of basketball games. My Big Girl is cheering this year for the basketball season and she is loving it. Actually, we all are! My boys are thoroughly enjoying for the Knights and I get a few shouts in each game, as well. :)
My Big Girl was quick to tell her Daddy that he just couldn't do the cheerleader's moves from the sidelines because it was embarrassing her. Funny thing is that every other parent wants to sit by him because he is where the most fun is among the spectators. He is such a great Dad. He cheers for the team, but he is ALL about encouraging his kids no matter what it is that they are trying and this is no exception.
Here's a few photos of our little Cheerleader....

The Morning After

The morning after the "big election", as I opened my Bible to see what the true KING and ruler of this nation had to say to my heart, I read the following verses.

"But be on your guard. Don't let the sharp edge of your expectation get dulled by parties, drinking, and shopping. Otherwise, the Day is going to take you by complete surprise, spring on you suddenly like a trap, for its going to come on everyone, everywhere at once. So, whatever you do don't go to sleep at the switch. Pray constantly that you will have the strength and wits to make it through everything that's coming and end up on your feet before the Son of Man."
Luke 21:34-36

No matter what the economical status of this nation or who the President is, our mandate is the same. We are to be expecting and preparing for His return. We are to be praying constantly for strength to endure and to finish strong! Won't you join me in praying for the Church in America to rise to the occassion, to represent Jesus as we should, and in lifting up our Nation's leadership, the leadership that God has seen fit for such a time as this. Whether we agree with them or not, we need to cover them in prayer. Let's pray that God will draw them to Himself and guide them like only He can! God is not surprised or caught off guard by this election. On the contrary, He is sovereignly orchestrating the events in History to fulfill His ultimate plan. Whether it be lessons for us to learn, tests to make us stronger, or simply to get us closer to His Return, He is in control!

"And we know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose."
Romans 8:28

It's Monday Already?

We are off to start another week of school. I am so grateful to be fortunate enough to teach my children at home. I love the time we have together and the assurance I have that they are learning so much TRUTH and not simply what the culture deems relevant. It truly is a gift!
With that being said, we still have those crazy days where you wonder what in the world we are thinking.... (hopefully today won't be one of those days). Here is a funny cartoon that says it all.
Hope you all have a great Monday!

Prayer Changes Things....IF we do it!!!!

I read the article below from Charles Stanley this week and it blessed me. Just thought I'd pass it on. Most of you are probably voting the same way I am, that being with your convictions from the Word of God being the determining factor, which only gives ONE choice, but I have heard many Christians sound defeated with the election coming. It's as if we vote and then we are suppose to simply give up.
This was awesome from Charles. I hope you will all join the countless other Believers that are praying for the election. Prayer changes things, but as my Pastor said this morning, it only works if we do it!

A message from Charles Stanley--

I was very dismayed when recently a member of my Church said to me with great resignation that she was afraid Obama will take the presidency. These words came from someone that in the past has been a great prayer warrior. What is happening was my question??? Why are we Christians settling for the loss of our Christian heritage, not issuing a battle cry and falling to our knees and taking our country back? We allow ourselves to be stripped of the right to pray at school functions and in school, we have the Ten Commandments removed from government places and are told we cannot pray publicly or proclaim Christian principles, all the while providing public prayer places for Muslims. We allow Muslim mosques to operate in America funded by Saudi Arabia, and proclaim anti-American, anti-Christian threats and terrorism.

What in the world is going on and why are we being so apathetic? Why aren't we praying? Our God is an Almighty God who is waiting patiently for us to raise our voices to heaven to stop the tide of the anti-Christian actions in our world today. Now we have a charismatic, albeit inexperienced, candidate for president that does not respect our flag and refuses to wear one on his lapel except when it becomes politically expedient, and whose own wife and pastor that he loves profess to have strong anti-white feelings, and we sit back and say 'it is a given, we can do nothing???' There has never been a time in 2000 years that we can do nothing, never a time that we must sit back and allow the evil in men's and women's hearts to take over our world! We should be afraid, very afraid because our apathy is leading us to perdition.

It is time for all Christian Americans to raise the battle cry and take our nation back! Maybe McCain on his own cannot defeat Obama, but our God can and He will if we take to our knees in prayer and raise a mighty cry to the heavens to 'Save us O Lord'. We have God's promises in 2 Chronicles 7:14, 'If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.' We have the power to change the course of this election and to keep a man as suspect as Barak Obama from leading our country to who knows where with his message of 'change'; a change which I fear will be away from our Christian ideals, and away from Christ, and further away from one nation under God to one nation under Allah.

We are great at passing stories and pictures around the Internet but where are our prayers and prayer warriors praying to stop this tide of Barak Obama? God parted the Red Sea, Jesus was raised from the dead, and we can bring our country back to its Christian roots and stop the undermining of our country by Muslims. We can stop our country from being 'under Allah' but we must begin to pray, to pray as our country and our lives depended on it because they do.

We can stop all these atrocities against God's commands that have taken root in our country through something as simple as sincere prayer, a call to God to deliver us, to forgive us our sins of apathy and to protect us from the evil that is upon us.

Okay prayer warriors, here is your challenge, start those prayer chains. Get the spiritual power working on our behalf and stop Barak Obama the proper way, by calling on our God to save us from the deception that charismatic preaching is using to lead us on the wrong path. Stop those who would take God out of our country and our government. Raise up good men to lead us and protect us. George Bush is being buffeted because he has fought a holy war against the evils that attack us .... and we should not be surprised because a prophet is not honored in his own country. But we should not rest on our laurels and allow ourselves to be taken further off the path of Christianity and to have God removed from our presence in our schools, courts, government and businesses. Invite God into the fray. Ask that His power rest upon us and give us the victory. Ask him to raise up a mighty army to defend us and to protect our country as he did in days of old. Let us be victorious beginning NOW. The battle is His but we must call on Him without ceasing and unite our voices and hearts in prayer and fasting.

Please pass this around to all people of prayer that you know and maybe, just maybe, a more eloquent person of prayer will write something better and more inspiring and even the rocks will shout that Jesus is Lord and our Mighty God is with us and bringing the victory for us and ultimately for Him. AMEN!

Dr. Hunt made another great point when he said, "God may give us what we deserve (as a Nation) instead of what we ask for". No matter who wins this election, GOD is still on the Throne and in complete control of all things. There is NO power given to any man that isn't extended to him from the Creator of all things (whether he acknowledges it or not)!

Pray, my friends, and rest in His sustaining sovereignty and grace, no matter what!
