i am a garage sale junky.
truly, i am.
the other day, just for fun, i counted the furniture items that are in our home. counting the 3 barstools as one piece, the kitchen table and chairs as one piece, and so on.... i counted a total of 32 pieces of furniture.
guess how many were bought brand new...
4.
the other 28 have either been given to us second-hand or purchased at a thrift store or garage sale... and that's just the furniture.
there is something gratifying and exciting about turning a piece of junk into something with appeal, all the while saving lots of money. and i certainly love to save money.
so last month, when we decided we needed a tv upgrade, we needed a new piece of furniture to house this new purchase, seeing that our old piece of furniture would no longer be accommodating. i knew exactly what i wanted and even described it to bryce so he could help me on the hunt. we spent week after week scouring garage sales, thrift stores and craigslist for the perfect piece of furniture that i envisioned in my mind... but to my dismay, we found nothing that would work.
finally, last week, bryce was driving around at work, when he spotted exactly what we had been looking for, just sitting on the side of the road in front of someone's house. he pulled up to their house and someone just so happened to be leaving right then, so he asked them if they were getting rid of it. they practically begged bryce to take it. so he hoisted it into his truck and brought it home. it was exactly what i wanted... well, almost... it needed a shelf, but we knew that we could easily install one. so we got to work...

AWESOME diana!!!
it looks fantabulous. you have put me and my cabinet project to shame...
my only complaint is that i can't see your pretty new tv.
I love it!
love it!
Isn't the end of garage sale season just the saddest time of the year? They're getting harder and harder to come by. And can you believe we haven't run into each other this year?
Last week, Jake's mom was taking a tour of our new house and asking where we got different pieces of furniture/decor. Yeah. ALL garage sales, CL, or thrift stores.
Wow, you are amazing Diana. Are you for hire?! Just kidding. I have so many unfinished projects in my garage that are calling my name. Just to find the time and energy to complete them...
I am so impressed.
Cousin Kim: Hi. I thinkt his is so cute! What a great idea for shelving! I might have to steal the idea.
Picture Tony The Tiger saying "that's Grrrrrreat!" I don't know why don't ask me, I need to go to sleep.
It looks awesome! And the TV looks big, nice! I would never have thought that it could look that good when seeing the before, you've got the eye girl!
Great job!
that is looking awesome. i need you here to garage sale with me, because our season is just starting. i'm still too scared of the haggling.
Remind me NEVER to give you anything of a furniture nature. I would die if I gave you something like that and saw what it looked like all prettied up.
It's sooo cute.
I just finished my first wall picture collage and I only purchased 5 of the 16 frames and they were the cheapy kind. I sanded and spray painted all the rest of the frames around my house till they were all shiny and black! I even got a fabulous deal on some of the matting and the picture development. I totaled the $ it cost to creat it and I was extremely happy with myself. pat pat pat..
We wont talk about the new camera I bought to take all those wall collage pictures.. Hee hee.
The pictures I used are on my blog.
i'm still amazed at how great it turned out. it looks even better in person!
That's what I'm talking about. You have amazing trash and should be proud of it.
Dude, I am looking for something like that for the exact same reason. You did great.
