Today Hannah and I went to visit Rose and Alan. Alan was born three days before Hannah, and it was fun to see them play together. We all took a long walk on the Monon Trail, which was really nice and much more fun than walking alone in the neighborhood!Wednesday, August 30, 2006

It's Like Ballet...
Yesterday I cleaned out Hannah's closet, put away too small baby clothes (awwww, she used to be so tiny!), and basically reorganized her room. In so doing, I found this baby jumper thing that I bought at a garage sale two days after I found out I was pregnant last year. I set it up in the doorway of the guest room and Hannah had a ball. She jumps and leaps and waves her arms and points her toes and it looks like a very exuberant ballet! It makes me laugh! I wish I could capture it on film, but this is the best I could do...

Piano Lessons
Today seemed like a good day to start piano lessons. The piano is dreadfully out of tune, but I do like to play it on occasion, and Hannah likes it. So today I thought Hannah seemed big enough to start learning to play herself. I sat her next to me and held on to her with one hand while playing the right hand part of Hannah's psalm (8B) and singing it. Hannah sort of sang "ya la ba" type lyrics along with me. Then I helped her use her index finger to play a scale while singing "Do Re Mi" to her. After a few times through that, I let her play a little by herself, but no banging. She seemed to grasp the no banging rule pretty well and looked pleased as punch with herself as you can see from the picture above. Those of you who actually teach music lessons will doubtless tell me that I'm going about this all wrong, but it really was fun!

On The Move
With the crib lowered, Hannah can now only get her nose over the railing. I had to lower it after the day I went to get her from a nap and she was experimenting with stepping on the crib bumper as if to hoist herself over the rail! Good thing I'm not prone to heart attacks!
"I know there must be at least ONE more toy in my toy box! AHA!"
Hannah tentatively practices taking a step to the side while holding on to the crib slats. Notice the fancy hat she is sporting - she hates hats but for some reason really took to wearing this one and I had to pry it off of her head in the face of loud protests because she really wanted to nap with it on too! We Love Shopping
Yesterday my mom, my aunt Catherine, Hannah and I went shopping (in picture above, my aunt is on the left, my mom is on the right). Mom wanted to go to Parisian, and it turned out they were having a mega sale. Hannah went nuts, grabbing all the pretty colors, laughing at people, and carrying on. Since all marked down items were an additional 60% off, I got Hannah this sweet smocked dress for only $6!

Scenes From Hannah's First Vacation
Traditionally, as you drive up and first catch site of the Montreat gate, you must sing the following song, and finish it before you pass through:Montreat, how I love 'ya. How I love 'ya, my dear old Montreat. I'd give the world to be back with the folks at M-O-N-T-R-E-A-T. Mammy's waiting for me, praying for me, down by Lake Susan. The folks at home will just have to wait, for I'm headed for that Montreat gate.
Hannah can't get all the words this year, maybe next time.

We got this bib for Hannah at the Montreat Conference Center bookshop, because I thought Josh would think it was funny.

We took some "artistic" shots of Hannah in a pretty dress at the beach

The two shots above are views from our balcony. Hannah especially liked the fountain.

We played with this rocking boat while waiting for a table at a seafood restaurant. Hannah was so well-behaved even though I wouldn't let her have a crabcake!
