Learning to Sew

So I got an awesome Christmas present, a sewing machine.  I have wanted to re-learn to sew for a long time.  But I don't have a sewing machine.  Now I do.

So....what to do?

I went and hung out with my awesome friend, Ali Dastrup, and she helped me re-learn how to sew.  And this is what I made.
It is a hot pad.  I also made a little horse out of the scraps for my nephew.  But I didn't take a picture of that.

St George Escape

Last weekend we took a little escape to St. George.  It was so nice to be in some warmer weather and some clean air.  Whew-wee are they lucky to not have the air quality issues Salt Lake City has.

Our Main purpose of going to St George was to run the St George Half Marathon.  I was expecting it to be one of my slower times because I didn't train much for it.  A combo of being dark until after 7 am + awful air = not great conditions for training properly.  Derek had the same problem, so he ran with me.  (Doesn't that make you feel great?  I didn't train so I will run with you.)

But it was great.  I just went at a comfortable pace and he kept me on that pace.  At the end when I wanted to slow down, he didn't let me.  He kept me keeping my form the way it should be and helped me run my fastest half marathon ever.  1:40:18.  That is a 7.65 minute pace.  I didn't know I could do that.  My dad only finished 19 minutes after us.  Because he is a super star like that.

After lunch and a soak in the hot tub.  We took my dad and Derek's mom to learn how to rappel.  They did awesome.  So awesome that they both needed to go twice.  I am so proud because my dad is super scared of heights.

Yes...this is someone's house.  We about died.

Boy oh boy did it feel good to be in my chacos again.

Mongolian BBQ for dinner.  Happy tummies

On Sunday we went to Zion National Park for a quick little jaunt up Angel's Landing. (My dad hasn't done it in and really long time and was dying to).  It was a great hike and again, he did awesome with the chains.

Timp

Took this picture of the backside of Mt. Timpanogos from the top of Alta Ski Area's Collin's Lift the other day.  It is too beautiful not to share.  This is why I live in Utah.
