Yes, it is true. I GOT A NEW JOB!!! And I start on Monday, which is tomorrow. So farewell crazy old people, and hello to a different set of crazy old people. I just can't seem to stay away from them.
But the really exciting part is that Derek and I just finished running the Ragnar (Wasatch Back) for the first time. It was awesome!
With a team of 12 people, we relay ran 192 miles in 28 hours and 36 minutes. We started running at 8 am Friday morning and we finished around 12:45ish Saturday afternoon. It was AWESOME! Sure we slept for an hour and a half and ran all through the night. But it was fun.
(How it works is that Everyone in Van 1 runs. And after their 6th runner, Van 2 starts and all 6 of them run and it switches back and forth. Each team runs 3 times)
I ran about 14 miles (bless Jeff, our team captain, for giving me easy legs so my injured knees could handle it. And they did!) Derek ran 15.5 miles and they were HARD miles. He had the hardest leg in the whole race. The Ragnar Hill (The Ragnar Relay is named after this hill. Because the original one was the Wasatch Back and when they expanded to other cities, they named the race after this hill) 4.3 miles of straight up. Sometimes at a 10-12% grade and I am not joking. It was intense (like camping) and he rocked it. And my dad ran 20 miles. And some were pretty difficult runs. Yup, he's almost 60 and he's still outdoing me every time. He is The Man. And he drove almost the entire time.
Here are some awesome pictures
This was our team name, Team Ford Running Against Cancer. We do this race with some family friends and their dad battled cancer for 11 years and passed last fall. So now instead of running for him like we used to, we run in memory of him.
My fist leg. Since I've been injured, Jeff gave me the easiest runs in my van. Therefore, I was up against every teams weakest runners and therefore passed (killed) 30 people this run (4 miles)
Dave Knighton
Steve Boyer
Derek. It was really hot and he got sprayed by little kids with water guns and by big kids (aka adults) with a fire hose.
Mike Hurst
The Man. Aka, my dad
And thus ends Van 2's First Leg.
Our first leg ended at Snowbasin. Yes, my dad and Mike Hurst ran up that hill. It was brutal.
We had some time to kill while Van 1 was running.
My 2nd leg started our team out at around 10 pm. Hence the safety gear. Here is dad and I.
Derek and I. PS: It was SO COLD. Right now it was probably in the high 30's by by the time we were done at 330 in the morning it was about 30 degrees. Brrrrrr.
This is just how good I am at running. I'm a blur.
We got sleep here and there in the car. Then 1.5 hrs of good sleep. This is how Dave felt in the morning. (About 6:30)
And this is Derek. (Their pics were the best ones)
Here is my final leg. YAY for almost being done!
Derek's final leg. Ragnar Hill. He jumped in the snow at the top.
Almost at the top of the hill
Jeff, our team captain, and his sisters. We were running for their dad.
Van 2 after all is said and done.
