*Quiet Time*

Yes...I have a crazy, one year old, yet somehow I find myself with a lot of quiet time.  Reese has been a rock-star sleeper since we moved to AZ.  She goes to sleep every night at 8:00pm & will sleep until 8:00am. (so happy about that because she was not a great sleeper until she was like 6-8 month old!)  She also takes a 2 hour nap everyday too.  Jon, most days comes home for dinner then goes back to school until like 11:00 give or take an hour.

Due to all of this fabulous sleeping & studying I get more alone time than I know what to do with some days.  (clarification: by no means am I complaining about that!)

Back in July/August I decided to make Reese a Quiet Book.  Thanks to pinterest & many other crafty blog moms out there I was able to find lots of cute ideas (even some patterns/tips).  I made a plan of some of the pages I wanted to do, made a trip to JoAnn's & The Hob Lob, blew the dust off my sewing machine & set up shop on my kitchen table {aka: my craft room}.  I finished this book months ago!  I haven't shared any pictures yet.

 Page 1: Shapes & Colors
Page 2&3: Mr & Mrs Potato Head & pieces
 Page 4 & 5: Car & Road
Page 6&7: zip, buckle, tie, button & barn
 Page 8: Numbers & Counting
This book was so much fun to make.  I want to make more pages to add to it.  But they are ones that Reese will use more when she is a little older.

To those of you who want to make a quiet book?!  I used lots & lots of felt. (Only 25 cents a sheet.)  Wonder Under is an absolute must!  Most pieces are two layers of felt sewn together.  I want this book to last so I tried to make it "durable."  I got a pack or fat quarters so that the fabric throughout would match.  I went for bright primary colors.

Then I was talking to one of my friends (Becky) & she told me she had bought the cutest quiet book pattern pack from etsy & so kindly offered to let me borrow her pattern.  I made this adorable ABC quiet book in Sep/Oct.  (I took the pics before I added the eyelets & rings to put it together.)

All of the little pieces velcro on & off.

Next, Becky again so graciously offered to let me borrow another pattern.  Its a cute ZOO quiet book.  Can't wait to get started on it after Christmas!  I love having projects!!! And I love my Quiet Time!

*Halloween 2012*

I have been trying to decide what Reese should be for Halloween for months.  I wanted to make her costume but was feeling uninspired until my friend Kayla jokingly mentioned Reese should be a Ghost. (because she says BOO! constantly).
Ding! Ding Ding! Winner!
I bought a t-shirt, some iron on patches, the toulle, her sandals & her hair bow all at Hobby Lobby.
Made her tutu & shirt in like an hour.  Super easy & it turned out adorable.

Our Halloween festivities began at Midwestern.  Each year they put on a BIG celebration with carnival games, food, blow up toys, spooky walk ways, etc. The best part is that the kids can go trick-or-treating to a ton of the staff/office workers at the school.  They all had their offices decorated & were super nice & excited to see all the kids!
Reese wasn't sure about this whole thing.  That bag of m&m's she is holding was the first piece of candy she got.  She wouldn't let go of it nor put it in her bag.  She held onto it through 3-4 buildings.  Jon or I had to put all the other candy into her bag for her because her hands were full.  She had a death grip on both those m&m's and her bag.
Once she learned what we were doing she was cruisin' down the hallways!

 Lexi * Parker * Reese

The next night we had a ward party & trunk-or-treat.

Reese & Lexi eating cookies in the gutter. ;)
I got the last minute idea to dress jon & I up as Ghostbusters.  I thought it would be funny to go along with Reese's ghost costume.  I made these like 2 hours before the party kind of thrown together but you get the gist.

Trick-or-Treating.  This time, she would approach people & choose her candy.  But only if their candy bowl was visible.   She even would say thank you to most people.

Then on Monday night we got together with some friends & had dinner in our costumes.  I couldn't resist taking some more pics.  Your welcome Gma.
I couldn't resist a side by side from last year...4 months old!  What a difference a year makes!
She LOVES this bridge.  She runs across it.  Once she gets to the end, she turns around & goes back the other way.  I have to let her do it several times before we can be on our way.

Again...love the palm trees, they make me happy.  It was 80 degrees at 6:00 pm.  (Love that too!)

Even though today is officially Halloween we are done with it this year.  Costumes are packed & put away.  We aren't going trick-or-treating tonight.  Don't tell Reese.

*16 Months Old & Pumpkin Patch*

16 months old

Reese is doing SO many new things each day I need to do better to keep track. Here is a very long list of her recent behaviors(...mostly for Gma's, me & jon)

-Reese is very vocal!  She will "read" books on her own.  She sits down with a book on the floor  & jabbers (with exaggerated inflection) as she turns the pages.

-She knows lots of animal noises: cow, pig, horse, puppy, kitty, snake, duck, lion, fish, monkey, rooster & sheep.  We love to ask her & listen to her make all these noises!  She recognizes animals & noises in books, outside or on TV.  It is so fun to see her get excited about them.

-She can say: cheese (string cheese), shoes, juice, hi, bye-bye, no, go, baby, ball, please (more like peas) & why (thanks to PBS show Super Why).  She is attempting to talk more & more.  She will come to me, point or raise her eyebrows & spat out some babble.  I just smile at her... interpretation is not yet possible.

-Reese LOVES to dance!  She has this adorable shoulder move she has done since she was like 10 months old.  Now she just wiggles and groves all over. She dances anytime she hears an upbeat song.  If she is in the car she wiggles & smiles or bobs her head to the beat.  It kills me because she is always on beat!  If she is playing with toys, & hears a commercial on TV she stands up, stops what she is doing & dances.

-All four canine teeth have officially broke through!  Teeth total=16

-She is loving the fact that she is more independent.  She is feeding herself (every now & then)
successfully with a spoon or fork.  She likes pizza, peas, corn, ravioli, pasta, grapes, watermelon, applesauce, cheese, chocolate milk & more.  She is a pretty good eater most days.

-Her independence is however often turning into temper tantrums.  She has had a few lately.  Luckily they are few & far between.  But man, if she wants something bad enough she will let it be known!

-Reese wants to walk everywhere!  This new found freedom of walking has her in heaven.  She is getting fast too! The cause of 99% of her tantrums are do us leaving somewhere, or making her sit in her stroller, or carseat.  She just wants to be free to run around!

-Since Reese has only been walking for two months she is getting faster & more confident walking around.  But she will often pause at the edge of the sidewalk before going onto the grass just to make sure she is going to clear that tremendous 1/2 inch difference.  She is ridiculously cautious.

-She just figured out how to climb up on the chair & couch in our family room.

-I just got her a baby/doll & she loves to hug, kiss & feed it a bottle.  She will also "pretend" share her snacks with her (Even makes little munching noises while her doll eats)

-She is opening & closing doors all over the house.

-She is still wearing lots of 3-9 month shorts/pants but more 9-12 month tops.  In size 3 diapers.  Weighs 22.8 lbs.  I haven't bought her new clothes since May.  Plus with the weather still in the 80+ she can still wear her summer stuff. BONUS!  I think next month I will get her a few long sleeve shirts.

-Although skinny, she towers over kids her age!  She is very tall!

-Jon & I are a little nervous because she is kind of turning into a "bully".  She has no problem stealing toys or food & walking right through other kids.  It's more to the younger ones.  I think it's because she is bigger than them.  With the older kids she just wants to follow them & laugh at them.  She does play nice usually but every now & then she isn't.  I wonder how she will do in nursery in December.

-Reese is now in a forward facing car seat.  We finally figured 22 lbs was big enough to be done with the baby carrier car seat!  She was thrilled to be forward facing!

-She loves to sing.  On Friday mornings we go to a singing time class.  There is a song about "You & Me."  She will randomly start singing it all the time!  It's so cute.  She knows the actions to several songs too.

-She loves to tickle jon & I.  She thinks it is so funny.  She giggles & covers her mouth with her hands.

-EVERY TIME she laughs really hard for longer than 15 seconds or so she gets the hiccups!  She has done that since 6 month old.

We love her SO much & are enjoying watching her grow & learn.

A few weeks ago we went with some friends of ours to a local pumpkin patch.
This is Jackson, Reese & Lexi.  It was 90 degrees. I put her in leg warmers.  I was feeling nostalgic for fall weather I guess...
When I get my camera out, I swear she purposely tries not to look at me or smile...

There were tons of animals. Reese loved walking around and talking to them all.  I loved that a lot of fences were low so she could actually see.  Notice the palm tree below.  We all thought it was fun to be on a farm with palm trees.

There were several pens that you could go in and pet the animals.  Reese didn't get near anything!  She kept her distance & yelled "baaaa" at all the goats.
She loved these little chicks.  She laughed & laughed at them. I was surprised she dared put her finger in there...it did get nibbled on, but she went back for more.

These two would have played in here for 5 hours!

She would have stayed on the train that long too!

We will definitely go back to this place next year!  There were more things to do but she isn't quite big enough yet to enjoy them.

*Jon Makes WHITE Look Good*

October 5, 2012 was Midwestern University's White Coat Ceremony.
It is a symbolic "rite of passage" for students in the healing arts to signify the students' initiation into the clinical phase of education toward a career as a health professional.

The white coat is placed upon them by their professors & deans as a reminder of the expectation to become caring, compassionate & serve those in need in the future.

After all the students were in their coats, they stood up together as a sea of white & read the
Oath of Commitment:
As I embark upon my course of study at Midwestern University, I will:
Enter into a relationship of mutual respect with my teachers and my colleagues to enhance the learning environment and gain the knowledge, skills, and attributes of a good health provider.

Accept responsibility only for those matters for which I am competent, maintain the trust expected of a health care provider, and never take advantage of the patient-provider relationship.

Respect the patient's right to privacy.

Value the knowledge and wisdom of the health care professionals who have preceded me and endeavor to contribute to their tradition.

Recognize my weakness and strengths and strive to develop those qualities that will earn the respect of my patients, my colleagues, my family, and myself.

Continue this learning throughout all the days of my life.

These are the boys that jon spends his days with.  Reese & I spend many of our days with their wives & kids!  We have all become great friends & are so grateful for the support & "family" we have become!  Between us we have 7 kids...for now.  Most of us are planning on having more in the future.

We know we still have a LONG road ahead...but we are so proud of Jon & all the hard work & commitment he has put in thus far.  He goes to school around 7:00 each morning.  He comes home for either lunch or dinner at some point. He heads back to school from 6:00-11:00 most nights.  I am amazed at all he is learning.  Especially at how well he mastering it & is keeping up with the HUGE load of classes!
He has a break coming up soon & we can't wait to spend a whole 2 weeks with him & not have to share him with his books, the library, his study buddies, his lecture notes & his ipad/laptop.
WE LOVE YOU JON!!!
