September 2009 Events Continued...This is the Place Heritage Park/4 year anniversary

Choo Choo, or should I say Toot Toot like Ella does?

On our anniversary, August 27th, Jared was on call so we weren't able to really do anything that would require us to go anywhere, so we saved our anniversary for September 7th. I surprised Jared (we invited Aunt Kira along as well to help with Ella) by going to This is the Place Heritage Park. I had been wanting to go here since I learned about it. It is a park museum of early Salt Lake when the pioneers settled here. The people that are in the buildings are all dressed up and are acting as if it is still that time period. It was kind of fun to ask them questions and instead of them giving us answers in past tense, they spoke as if it were the present day.

When we first got there, we explored the outside of the park where they had statues and other artifacts. We then went inside the visitors center and had some lunch. It was actually quite good. We had sandwiches and fries and chips and sat on tall stools at a tall table. Afterwards we began exploring the park. Below are some of the pictures of our adventures:

Our first home!

Here's the inside. Isn't it beautiful? Dirt floors and all!

Our second home. Less room, but also less spiders!

Just kidding, that was our garage! Our second home is on the right

One unfortunate thing is that we went to the park on the last day it would be open before they did their Halloween theme so a lot of the buildings were closed. We didn't even get to see all of the buildings that were open because we spent too long looking at everything and got there too late in the day. We want to come back and explore more for sure when the whole park is open and we can enjoy it fully. I think that is something that we may do this coming summer.

After the park, we went out to dinner at Applebees, I believe. Then we took Aunt Kira home and called it a day.

Next post: Random fun pictures and then our trip to visit Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Winston and Halloween!
