A few months ago Dave decided he wanted to try a triathlon. He found one in Salem that was sprint distance (1/2 mile swim, 13 mile bike ride, and a 5K). He registered for it and began his training, for the bike and running. He only swam about 3 times prior to it, and every time he came home and said he was going to drown during his race! He convinced me he was going to as well. I was so nervous for him. Well, his race was yesterday. It was a beautiful day!

The first event was the swim. They were required to wear a wetsuit (which lucky for me has some sort of floatation in it!) They swam in Salem pond, which was disgusting looking! They took off in different heats, according to age and gender. I tried to watch him, but every guy had on a wetsuit and a yellow swimming cap! I had no idea which one he was. I was so relieved when I saw him come out of the water 20 minutes later! He said that he had a guy on a kayak following him, because he was swimming on his back and was totally going in the wrong direction!

The next event was the bike. They did 2 laps, so that was fun to see him twice. He borrowed a bike from a guy he works with, since I'm so mean and won't let him buy a $1500 road bike! He said that that part got hard the last 3 miles. The course was pretty hilly. He was afraid his legs would be shot for the run, but lucky for him, he had brought some GU, which totally makes a difference.

The last event was the 5K. He was able to do that one and come in pretty strong.

He had fun doing it, and his time was 1hour, 50 minutes. We had no idea what a good time for it was, so it sounds great to us! As we looked at the results, he spent about 8 minutes longer in the transition stages then the top guys. I guess that's an area he could improve on! I was really proud of him, and he thinks that he might want to try another one this summer. I told him he could only do it if he promised to go swim more! I love you honey, good job!
