Tanner Turns ONE!

Our little guy Tanner is one already! It is crazy how quickly they grow up and all of a sudden they are into trouble!  We're glad to have Tanner in our family and have enjoyed seeing Brady and Tanner's relationship develop.  They are playing together more and more and really enjoy being around each other.  Such an improvement with Brady from a few months ago when he was taking any cheap shot at Tanner he could!

Here are a few facts about Tanner at age 1:
He loves to eat.  If he knows you are watching him, he will throw a piece of food in his mouth really fast and put his head back to be funny.  He knows how to get into my purse and find snacks.
He took his first steps at 10 months and is all over the place.  He is really busy and into everything and loves throwing things in the garbage can, down the stairs, and shutting the door when he goes into a room.
He seems to have more "traditional" boy interests than Brady did.  He loves cars, balls, swords, and looking at animals.  He figured out how to 'drive' a toy car at 10 months just on his own, and we don't remember Brady doing that until he got to nursery.
He likes being around people and doesn't like to miss out on things.
He is a pretty good napper and we can just put him in his room and he will go down.  Right now, he is in that transition phase from 2 naps down to 1.  He goes down fairly early at night, usually by 7:00, and now that his molars are in and he is in his own room, he is sleeping through the night.
Tanner's first few weeks of being 1 were a little rough--he started throwing up on his birthday and had that and the runs almost every day for about 3 weeks.  Poor little guy! He was also getting in 8 teeth at the same time, so he wasn't too pleasant for a while.  He is back to being his easy-going self now that his body has recovered and his teeth have all cut through.
He loves his brother and if Brady is in quiet time when Tanner is up, he will go and knock on his door.
He loves to be outside.  His favorite thing is to play basketball with our little hoop.  He will put a ball in the basket over and over.  He will stand right under our big hoop holding a full size basketball just waiting for someone to put it in.
He is such a little cutie and he grows on me more and more everyday.

Tanner's First Birthday Party

We moved to our new home in Kaysville on February 25, just 2 days before Tanner turned one.  So, I didn't do much planning for his first birthday. It was such a busy, stressful time.  We did have our families over for a little gathering to celebrate his first year. It motivated us to get unpacked quickly! We had a pasta bar for dinner and my sister Emily was nice and offered to make a cake for Tanner, which I took her up on! Tanner got some big cardboard blocks, a few books, cars, and a mini table and chairs.  We love you Tanman!

Brady's First Haircut

Well, I finally consented to getting Brady's haircut.  I loved his curls and knew they would never be the same after cutting them.  I took him to Cookie Cutters, where he did surprisingly well letting the hair dresser cut his hair.  I didn't cry there, the girl that cut it wasn't sentimental at all.  I don't know how she could cut all those ringlets off without saying one word about them!  But, as soon as I walked through our front door, I started bawling.  His hair is still curly, but not at all to the same extent is was before.  I miss his gorgeous curls!

Heidi's Fourth Birthday

Our sweet little Heidi would have been turning 4 last month.  It's hard to believe that it has already been 4 years.  We still miss her so much and wish she were with us, but we have a good life with our 2 little boys.  We try to teach them about Heidi and that she is their sister and we still love her.  It's sweet to see Brady's mind trying to wrap his mind about it.  It's definitely a difficult concept for a 3 year old to grasp.  Here's some cute things he has said about Heidi:
  • He knows that she lives in heaven and asks how we can get there.  His idea is to get a tall ladder that we can climb to get to her.
  • When Brady was 2 1/2, he would say, "Heidi died.  Mama and Dada sad. Brady made them happy."
  • Brady one day announced "Heidi feels better!" I think he thought that we would be able to go get her.
  • We drove past a different cemetery one day and he excitedly announced, "That's where Heidi lives!"
We went and visited Heidi at the cemetery and brought a giant cookie.  We lit 4 candles on it and let Brady blow them out.  Afterwards, we went out to dinner.  A little low-key this year, but we still felt like she was remembered and knew that we loved her.
