Yeah it never sat right with me when I kept being told that grandpa fought the Nazis, and I wasn’t seeing anyone of them around. In fact they were even afraid to make themselves known back then. Though, unfortunately, I also learnt while growing up that he and his colleagues didn’t entirely finish the job.

I remember in school always wondering why people didn’t take up arms against things like genocide. Then I lived it.

…then later I discovered that school didn’t teach me anything about the violence that happened to actually make the world I enjoy. They want you to forget that violence is an option

I’ve found that most people who complain about moderation don’t have much personal experience moderating a public forum. It’s relatively easy when there’s low activity but gets way harder the more participants there are.

The average person on the internet sucks. For every cool person there’s 10 who have no goal but wasting time by way of trolling. It’s such a thankless slog of a job that everyone expects you to perform flawlessly using the same exact standards that they believe are universal and impartial but in reality never are. It’s honestly pretty incredible that anyone does it well for more than a month without just banning everyone and closing up shop.

it makes me think of how people treat referee’s, I’ve watched a few sports now and the only thing that unites them all is how angry people are with the ref’s
