Oh FFS, how layers of abstraction do we need before people are satisfied that computers are simple enough?

People used to write their own programs

Then they bought premade ones

Then we had SAAS

Then AI to make the programs and make them work

Now we have programs to tell us how to speak to the AI…

And those of us with servers pray every day a stick won’t fail. But at least people can talk to robots and make slop on demand…

Looks like it still exists, if it hasn’t been popular why not torment people to try and force some profit…

With both myself and my kids having a healthy dose, it’s an eternal self learning journey. You might have some insights after years of living with it that they don’t but you still don’t entirely know their heads either.

I like to push the idea of known truth reflections. If things get confusing and chaotic take a bit to redirect towards some thing or fact that is undeniably true, and then use that pause to clear out the noise in the rest of things.

It’s not saying anything is abnormal, but just taking a bit to clear the clutter.

From the few times I’ve had properly made Indian food, I’d generally not call things spicy, but certainly lively. The flavors don’t tend to be subtle at all. Lady I worked with made her own curries and just a tiny bit was enough to flavor a whole bowl of rice.

Which one is that? If it’s not bloated up with crapware it sounds like one on a future considerations list.

They do that in regular court hearings too. The one asking questions has a story they want to present and details tend to make that more difficult.

The design with the original freenet could be described as a collective communal hard drive. No individual knew or had control of what content, or more likely portions of content, their node held. They simply offered up an amount of space to the net along with bandwidth.

The data was all encrypted and defined by content hash keys with each request being passed from node to node asking for the key. If the node had it then it was passed to the node requesting it from them, which may or may not be the originator of the request.

Same way with inserts of content. That passing back and forth up a chain makes things functionally anonymous, but easily bottlenecked if you have some slow node in the path.

By not knowing or having control what’s stored on their own node it gives the operator plausible deniability in theory. Not sure if that was ever properly tested in a court.

Hmm, though it’s exceptionally tough to corral illegal use without attribution, that notion of anonymous posting was one of the principal drivers of the original project. Whistleblowers and the like have solid needs to be able to get info out without it being traced back.

Of course, illegal would have to be defined as well. Inevitably disclosing classified info is illegal, but in many cases not immoral.

I would be interested to see a proper comparison between the original freenet, now known as hyphanet, and this platform. It looks like Ian Clark is the author of both of them with this one originally named Locutus. So in some ways it seems this is the second major rewrite of freenet, the first being the rewrite at version 0.7

At what point did I say anything about it being too deadly that it can’t spread? It’s entirely feasible that something could be very deadly and very contagious at the same time.

However, with that combination unless the host reproduces at a crazy high rate the virus won’t last long because it’ll run out of hosts to infect quickly.

In epidemiology, an infection is said to be endemic in a specific population or populated place when that infection is constantly present, or maintained at a baseline level.

For an infection to persist for a long time it needs to have somewhere to live, if everyone dies it can’t become an endemic condition.
