Look, a thousand or so years before that, god had realized that even if he personally impregnated some dark little middle eastern girl without her consent, the best he could hope for was a light skinned son with brown hair. It was so disappointing that he didn’t even notice when they tortured the boy to death. Heck, when the little fucker showed up all unexpected at gods front door, god was so surprised that he accidentally drove his soul back into the corpse and reanimated it. What a mess that was! That little brown haired zombie bastard running around scaring the hell out of people… lol.
Anyway, fast forward a thousand years and god had realized that if he wanted to reset the color palette on the human race, he was going to go west a skosh and start with something a little lighter. That worked out pretty well at first but eventually turned into its own complete mess.

  • Often I am disappointed when I go make the obvious dad joke, but someone has already made some half assed version that is not nearly as painful and ridiculous as it could be.

But then I occasionally come across a gem like this that is absolute perfection and so much better than what I had in mind. It’s like a little gut punch that drives just a little bit of air from your body in surprise.

Thank you for this little comment that physically pained me to read, and now will pain me twice as much throughout the day as I suddenly remember it and want to tell it to someone else, but can’t, because it is totally situational and could never be the same second hand.

  • I’m not good at complicated math like addition and subtraction, so when it comes to something like statistics I might as well be throwing pickle slices at a dartboard, so you will probably have to correct me here… But if you have a 3% chance of being attacked by a man, doesn’t that also mean that since you have a 1.5% chance of being attacked by any human? In fact, since there is a non-zero chance of being attacked by a woman, wouldn’t it be accurate to say that you have a greater than 1.5% chance of being attacked by any human?
I’m not really sure that greater than 1.5% feels much safer than 3%.
So I guess what I am saying is that while you and the OP I originally responded to are both correct, that once we start throwing monsters in the pool then people’s desire to go for a swim doesn’t change significantly just because we double the size of the pool.

Actually, what I am really saying is that I just really don’t like any grouping that lumps me in with the pedophilic psychopathic rapists currently running the US.

There is always a substantial uptick as any major election gets closer in the US. With midterms coming up you can guarantee that the bots and paid propagandists each with their own dozen or more sock puppets come crawling out of the woodwork.
It’s a problem everywhere, not just Lemmy. It is just sometimes more obvious here sometimes because it is such a small community.
It’s not hard to identify the paid shitbags. Comments rarely build up votes or down votes quickly. They can take literal days to gain traction. But somehow, if you call out certain comments at the bottom of an argument chain where the combatants stopped bothering to even downvote each other because literally none else is going to read that far, you can still somehow get half a dozen down votes in a matter of seconds.
