There’s no reason there couldn’t be a national endowment for open source, the way there is (or was) for the arts. A non partisan governing body would direct and oversee funds towards projects for the creation, dissemination, promotion, and maintenance of open source software for the whole world. Funding could come from a big tech wealth tax, and governance could be drawn and elected by top maintainers as a bylaw. Just off the top of my head.

It has mature emotionality, but my 8 year old was okay with it. We agreed it was good TV, but didn’t quite recapture the magic of classic AT. I think because it’s too serialised, too long, too grounded.

It’s hard sometimes not to imagine there’s some guy who shows up on day one and lays it all out; here’s what the rich people will be getting, and devil take the hindmost. It would explain this kind of instantaneous disappointment very neatly (which is why I don’t believe it, tidy theories being most often wrong).

I saw it for the first time only a year ago, if you’re happy to get someone else’s answer. For me it was a delight because seemingly every creative decision reflected an abundant love of life itself. The film is bursting with beauty and relish for the natural world, but without being cloying or simplistic in its storytelling, its message, or its aesthetics. There are moments of action that are exceedingly lifelike, and moments of stillness that are almost profound. The script itself is refreshingly not adhering to the Hollywood formula, instead it meanders and surprises you by turns. Another way in which it is very much ‘like life’.
