My conspiracy theory, for which I have no evidence, about the warehouse strikes:

Ukraine has intelligence showing Russia intends to do a widespread mobilization after the September elections. Wildberries is already able to procure a good range of military equipment at acceptable prices and has infinitely better logistics than Russian army, in addition to being not insanely corrupt and inefficient; who better for outsourcing (big chunks of) procurement? So, Ukraine decided to address the problem proactively, which helps in the short term (online retail is already an important source of war materiel) and makes a future mobilization logistically harder. Plus, you know, the discontent might make the population less compliant when the time comes to enter the grinder.

The voices in my head have mentioned that the Fedorov situation is also related, though they’ve vague about how.

And getting the oligarchs to start looking for knives seems like a pretty big bonus.

How much you want to bet that Wildberries had the lowest fire control standards?

A total storage area of 2 315 000 m². Ukraine burned down over one third of that storage area (the five locations represent 34% of that area). Reduction by one third of capacity after a few drone drives is really, really efficient. Cost/price ratio from heaven.

And if it even saves one live in Ukraine it’s worth much more than just numbers. Carry on, Ukrainian friends, carry on.

I’ve been seeing these posts, and I even saw some on Bluesky, where everyone is talking about wildberry warehouses being hit. They even showed video of these warehouses on fire.

I have only only one question.

What are “wildberries” in this context?

It’s the name of a company, the Russian equivalent of Amazon. Their warehouses are basically the same as Amazon’s, gigantic facilities filled with other companies’ products. So there’s tons of cardboard, fabric, plastic, lithium-ion batteries, a paradise for fires.

Apparently the Russian military’s been using them for logistical support so Ukraine declared open season on them. Turns out Russian fire marshals are just as bribeable as everyone else in Russia.

As others have said, it’s the Russian version of amazon.

I believe the creator of the name said they wanted to liken the availability of items to purchase to picking from a plethora of wild berries in nature.

US datacenters try to be secretive about their locations but its probably just a matter of time.
