My exposure to the newspaper is 2 minutes per day in the cafe as I wait for my coffee. I’ve observed the West Australian turn into the Herald Sun/Daily Telegraph over the past year.
We’ve reached the point where page 2 gets this. He doesn’t even specify his gripe. I searched up Gina on the ABC news site and the last mention of her was praising her for supporting Commonwealth Games athletes.
Does anyone know what he’s on about?

I can’t find it either, but maybe they reminded people of this:
The West Australian, the world’s best flat pack toilet paper!
I swear, it used to be better. When I first returned to Perth after living in Melbourne, the West Australian was a breath of fresh air. Yes, it still had its bias, but compared to the Hun and what was happening to The Age, it was actually pretty good.
It has shifted so far right in the last decade that it is unrecognisable to where it was. It’s been a slow process, with the changes amping up this year. I think that if you somehow took today’s editors & writers back in time a few years and produced a 2018 paper in today’s style, the whole city would be talking about the massive shift. But because the shift has been gradual, it isn’t spoken of. I recognised the changes in writing style as they happened, because I’d watched it happen to The Age around 2010-2015. It was the same.
She is one of the investors of the company that as of Jan 2026, own it.
The West Australian is the only locally edited daily newspaper published in Perth, Western Australia. It is owned by Southern Cross Media Group
Sure. I get why they’re drinking the Kool aid. But I don’t know what he’s complaining about. Did someone make a joke at the rich lady’s expense? Or point out that she gets a platform for opening her big mouth simply because she’s rich?
I’m missing something from this.
Oh I see. Search “Gina” in the ABC app/site. They have a bunch of articles (11 since June) varying from reporting on her attendance at events, to highlighting her relationship with Pauline Hanson and stupid shit she says like that QLD should give islands to fellow wealth hoarder and haver of shit takes, Elon Musk.
Christopher Doore is earning his keep, suckling at his masters teet and trying to bring heat to anyone with the audacity to criticise his owner by proxy. I don’t think it’s deeper than that. She wants a return on her investment and newspapers aren’t a booming media industry.

A lot of rich people who own media seem to be protected by their media. It’s a return on investment. They also seem to get to push their views as well, which sucks as those views are often self serving. Par for the course and for the current media laws.
