Beat me to it! I am so hyped for so many things, and I’m happy that they’re going to release the content over time rather than hold it all for one giant update. It’s nice to have a genuine roadmap now.
Dungeons and Boss Fights
The bosses look very MMO-esque with all the red areas you have to dodge.
We’ve been working on rocket boots, a mechanical hookshot, a glider, a mining drill, and a spyglass.
Oh yeah, Hytale is definitely going to be more like Terraria now.
Carryable Objects
Being able to carry storage was one of my favorite things about Vintage Story, nice that it’s coming here as well.
Abilities and Runes
Seems interesting, I guess this is going to be the game’s version of classes. It ties in with the elemental system they talked about ages ago.
Boats
Finally!
The Hytale engine is gaining support for real transparency! This means that stained glass and window blocks will now be possible.
Finally!
Mod Browser: Coming in 2-3 weeks (Update 6)
By far the most exciting thing in the update IMO. Keeping your mods updated was a nightmare, and CurseForge is terrible to use.
After a lot of bug fixing updates, it’s so reassuring to know that new content is coming pretty soon. The pace of development is very impressive. They did all this in the time it takes Mojang to add a few animals to the game.
The built in mod support is kinda the scary part for me. It makes me worry that they could exercise too much control in the long-term. If it becomes the main point of distribution, then how is it different from how Minecraft Java vs Bedrock works? It would simply rely on trust, I think? Even if the option exists to do it another way, people will go with what is easiest. I kinda prefer letting sites pop up and handle it. Less of a worry over restrictions and monetization.
Everything else for me is mint though.
Honestly wouldn’t worry about it. Anego Studios (the studio behind Vintage Story, and bankrolling Hytale as well) have a considerable track record of mod support, and they host the mods on their site as well, which makes integrating and keeping mods up to date dead simple.
This is the first time I have heard that the Vintage Story folks are bankrolling Hytale. I thought Anego had announced their own Hytale inspired game during the whole Hytale cancellation, something like Project Glimmer or Project Glint.
I understand what you mean, there’s always a little tension on how they’re going to handle it, but people were already going to what’s easiest which is CurseForge. I think it makes sense that the game itself would have a built-in mod browser, especially to keep things up to date and not have to do it manually.
As long as you could always sideload mods, I think it would be great.
It would be really cool if this built-in browser simply linked with popular options, which is just Curse at the moment. It may even be that, I couldn’t really tell just from reading. I think I am a bit more doom-bell oriented these days than I need to be and I am sure it will all be fine.
I’m very excited. I’m probably going to setup hosting once Chapter 1 lands.
I’d totally forgotten that I bought this game! Gonna play it again once I get home.
So much cool stuff, cant wait!
