This is my favorite Miyazaki movie. Hard to pick though.

Obligatory suggestion to read the manga if you haven’t already. Truly expands the world and goes well past the events of the movie. Also, depending on the version you end up reading, you get to see more of Miyazaki’s watercolor paintings.

I’ll go with Laputa due to the pure wonder & enjoyment factor, but Mononoke Hime due to the message and cinematic power.

I also appreciate in this and rare-ish other manga / anime works when the faces aren’t awful copies of Tezuka’s, with those huge, watery eyes, small bumps for noses, and tiny mouths.

One of the few manga I own and the only one I have in multiple languages. My all-time favorite.

I’m not a fan of anime. But I watched this movie based on suggestion of a friend a few weeks ago. I fell in love with the story, the style, the characters. If you hadn’t watched it, watch it.

If you love the world, read the manga! The world gets so much more depth in there, as well as the secondary characters more time to characterise them.

And secondly I recommend another manga by Miyazaki, which is very close in style and fairytale like atmosphere to Nausicaä: Shuna’s Journey or Shuna no Tabi.
